So, is the VS a s/s romance now or not?

While I think it would be great if they were Bisexual, it would also feel strange as in the first Mass Effect they weren't and expressed no interest in the matter, and now in Mass Effect 3 they just suddenly are.

They are, at least, *new* options for Shepard in ME3. MaleShep, FemShep, we don't know. Possibly (probably?) both. But the dialogue is there. The VS can be romanced by a newly created Shepard, and the dialogue just indicates that they never said anything about it three years ago, for whatever reason.

Dialogue like "I love
you, Shepard. I always have."

or "I... I
have feelings for you, Shepard. And I want more."

or "I want to
understand what this is between us... and make it real."

For reasons of their own, Bioware chose to make the VS available for 'new' romances in ME3 that don't depend on the events of ME/ME2 to activate. I can't see why a VS declaring feelings for a same-gendered Shepard is any less plausible than declaring feelings for an opposite-gendered one; they both hid their intentions and want to speak out in the third game.

(Besides, if Shepard never approached the VS about a romance in ME, or never got to ask, how would we know how they'd respond? Bioware are just having the characters approach the player if we didn't do it two games ago. It's a nice excuse to give new players another shot at romancing them.)

I like the fact that a prior romances isn't necessary for the VS, but I would like there to be some acknowledgment of a prior romance for those of use that did remain loyal, and a (not overblown) confrontation about "cheating" if Shepard had a new LI in ME2.

There is what you request.

Though some of the confrontation about Shep having another LI can be pretty lulzy.

Heh, don't suppose I can get a PM of those? It's doubtful it'll be something I'll naturally encounter and all, my Shepards having no LI's in ME1. Nothing to spoil, and such.

I'll have to dig in the files. Do you want ash or Kaidan or both?

Since (IIRC) they said that there would be no new party members that we haven't already had, with the exception of that one guy (James Vega, is it?), I certainly hope that he is THE one dude that male Shepard can romance.

IMO, the idea of any of the past male squadmates hopping the fence (especially LI's) would sound like way too desperate of a move by BioWare.

Let's say both. I have no male Shepards and Kaidan is always dead.

Bioware has said there would be more than one m/m romance, and there is an option to "start a new romance" with certain (but not all) former LIs. It seems likely that the reason for allowing "new" romances of "old" LIs to allow s/s romances to occur in the game on (nearly) equal footing. It is already possible to establish a o/s romance with past LIs in the ME2 interactive comic, and that feature could be easily applied to ME3 if Bioware didn't want to make those past LIs available for s/s romance.

Bleh it's mixed in with the start new romance dialogue and I'm too lazy to put it in order. If I give it to you you're getting a mixed chunk. Is that a problem? Cause if so try PMing Fox. Fox's good at putting it in order.

I'm too lazy.

I like how you manage to say that in one concise straightforward sentence. :D

I have a contest going with someone to see who can write the longest, most convoluted sentenses.  I know (usually) when to use commas.

Based on the spoilers so far, none of the existing LIs will develop bisexual tendencies. There WILL be new S/S receptive LIs however.

So sorry, looks like ME3 won't have a DA2 Anders/Merrill travesty. WHICH IS AWESOME.

Incoming sea of tears from the Kaiden ****** brigade!

A few things:

- We don't know yet whether or not they're open to Shepards of the same gender. If you look at some of the threads in the spoiler group , I'd argue it even looks more likely that they are. Certainly, the VS can have a 'new' relationship with (some kind of) Shepard, and none of the dialogue is gender specific. The lines referencing a Kaidan romance were also in the 'male Shepard' part of that script. Just food for thought.

- If you actually read the script, they don't magically spawn an interest in Shepard. They say they'd been interested in the Commander from the start. ("I love you, Shepard. I always have.")

- KaidAn.

- Ease up on the language. You can get a point across without being rude.

Thank your for the clarifications. It didn't occur to me that some of the dialogue is indeed rather gender neutral, so you are right about the possibility of the VS being bisexual. Still, I'm hoping that they will at least not INITIATE flirts with a same sex Shepard, like in DA2.

Yes, I know whats coming next. Some selfish rainbow boy's gonna whine about how "having an option to turn off S/S come-ons implies that S/S relationships are inherently bad". Dumb argument is dumb.

It isnt a dumb argument - the implications of such a function are disquieting and disturbing (it is the equvialent of having a button in game to switch of black people which would NEVER be accomodated). And you sir are rude and homophobic.

I can get why some insecure people didnt like DA2 NPCs coming onto the player, I get it I really do. Even though it is entirely realistic to NOT have control over what OTHER people do, fundamentally DA2 and ME3 are RPGs and often NEED to give the player control where they wouldnt have control otherwise in order to support immersion.
So I get it.

Doesnt make it right though. Doesnt make you right.

Also we have a quote from Raphael Sbarge at Comic Con (I think?) where he said that he had been recording lines for Kaidan for an SS romance. So if Kaidan is finally coming out in this came (lets face it he was totally flirting with ManShep in ME1) then its a good supposition that Ashley will too.
Presuming Raphael Sbarge wasnt mistaken or throwing us a red herring, or that Bioware dont change their mind; which they are wont to do.

Luckily for all the insecure people out there, it looks like Shepard initiates most of the romances. Or has the option to politely decline.

In Steve's conversation you can even point out how much you like boobies, though not quite in those terms.

No we don´t (sadly).

What happened is that at Comic Con Sbarge was asked by Fans and replied that he would like to do it. And that he thought he heard that BioWare is considering it. Though at the second point it is not clear if he was talking about  a same-sex romance with Kaidan or just same sex romances generaly.
