Feel free to start another rant about giving us the option to have Vega run around the ship with his shirt off if you want to.

Well, yeah...most of the game is the action. I honestly replay the game to try out different classes or builds and not to try different romances (I had no romance in ME2 even).

I agree that romances are really another way to accessorize Shepard, or define them and personalize them. Another example, the fish Shepard buys for her/his fishtank. The outfit you place on Shepard, etc.

Not giving homosexual PCs the same freedom to do this with romance as the heterosexuals enjoy just doesn't sit right with me.

This is a great way of putting it.

I haven't played the Sims, but as I understand it, it is some sort of simulated reality, so basically the thing that slimgrim is asking for.
What I want, and apparently others, too, is a great action rpg with a little love on the side, to personalize the war story and an emotional connection to the characters of my choosing with the PC, that I want to play.
Again, if it would be possible to have a majority of characters potentially available for an in-depth romance to provide an adequate sample of a real society and a chance to have a LI that fits your PC characterwise, I would be all for characters having a more clearly defined sexual orientation.
But in light of the limited number of available romances, having  the writers make the decision ("Here's your straight, here's your gay and here's your bi option!"), makes our choice for romance one purely based on sexual orientation and not character at all and if you are not interested in that character, than it is a choice between romance or no romance, just because of some sort of illusion of realism, that never was there to begin with.
Yes, it is fan-service, but I always thought the whole game was a service to fans to enjoy themselves. I find the disgust with which this word is used on these boards laughable.

I find the hypocrisy of some arguments a bit hard to stomach, really.

I mean, either you accept unrealistic romances, because Mass Effect isn't a dating sim, romance isn't a large part of the game, and it'd be frankly stupid to design an attractiveness system that cuts off romances for Shepard based on arbitrary sliders...

.... or you don't accept it, and clamour for realism in all aspects of the character interactions. Fine, do that, but at least be consistent.

Realism means no magical Mordin sex gel, no relationships with turians or quarians, squadmates rejecting Shepard on the basis of morality, appearance, orientation, whatever, meaning all that extra work for the developers to satisfy... what? The wounded artistic sense of some people on an internet forum?

I'm apathetic about making every romance option available for every Shepard. I don't particularly care either way - Bioware don't have an obligation to do anything, but I'd always err on the side of giving people more choices.

But running around screaming about how bisexual characters lack 'integrity', or are unrealistic, is disingenuous at best. You can't fault people for questioning your motives when unrealistic romances have been in every single Bioware game to date, and it's only now that some ME/ME2 characters may be available for s/s romances that people are trumpeting realism as something to defend.

If some former characters are revealed as bisexual - not changed to bisexual - in ME3, it's because the writers thought it was a good thing to do. Because it made sense, story-wise, and because they have limited resources and can't go around making four exclusively gay and lesbian options.

And if you really, truly, deep down inside, have a problem with that? Take it up with the developers, but don't preface your arguments with realism when realism isn't the aim.

Bioware want to satisfy people, minimise their costs and maximise their impacts. Inevitably, this has to be done, at least partly, with bisexual characters.

I've read the leaked story information, and as best I can tell there are exclusively gay and lesbian characters. That's a good thing.

There are also, quite possibly, some bisexual characters who are choosing to reveal their feelings for Shepard now. Perfectly defensible from a writing standpoint, and if you don't want to use that content, don't use it.

Between Miranda's dominatrix getup and Vega running around shirtless, the Normandy is starting to turn into some sort of pleasure cruise.

Yes...you have to make your sims go to the bathroom even.

Forced bathroom breaks for ME3!!!

Pleasure and pain.  Miranda likes to dish out a little pain too.

Based on the leaked script, it looks promising - nothing is confirmed or for certain, though.

Vega makes sense to be a s/s option because he's brand new + no one would care! If BW wants the less painful route towards introducing more s/s into the last game of the series would be people like Vega, the batarian squadmate, and shaila would be that way. No one would care if these guys are turn up s/s or not wanting o/s shep because they've shown no preference for friend or lover towards shep.

I know this is supposed to be a s/s thread, but I want to option to have Ashley running around the ship with nothing but Shepard's shirt on. That is a HOT look for LIs IRL, and I'm sure it'll work in a video game.

One word: Talimance. Her sexual romance with Shepard violated ESTABLISHED Quarian lore, not just the assumptions and head canons of anal retentive fans. People still whine and moan about that, but Talimancers don't have to apologize to anyone for enjoying an option Bioware provided them.

If it causes... certain players pain that s/s fans may actually enjoy a s/s relationship with a Kaidan (almost certain), Ashley (very likely), or Tali (improbable), the s/s fans should follow the Talimancers example and tell the whiners that their "pain" is their own problem.

According to the leaked script he is only available for ménage à trois. It was the only way Bioware could accurately display his stamina and miles of muscle real estate.

Neither outfit is appropriate for an officer. Had Miranda been weaing a school uniform from the get-go, that would've been blatant fanservice.

Are you saying that it is impossible to respect a strong woman who wears a skirt that is incapable of covering up her underwear!? For equality's sake I'd suggest putting Kaidan or Vega in a similar kilt.

Oh, wait. You're not supposed to wear underwear with a kilt, are you?
