Games aren't necessarily meant to be realistic. By definition they're either art, or entertainment, or both - and unless there's a particular artistic or entertainment reason for sticking closely to realism in gaming, it's often seen as an impediment to both fun and the telling of a good story. Traditional fictional art forms are hardly realistic (they exaggerate for whatever effect the author intends), after all.
A writer or designer isn't going to put 'realism' on a pedestal above the telling of a good story or the implementation of a good gameplay system, if they demand something that stretches plausibility. They can try to keep it reasonably sensible-sounding, sure - and Bioware attempts this with its codex entries - but if the conflict is between 'cool new power / plot development' and 'realism', the former wins out over the latter most of the time.
With respect, if you don't see the folly in insisting on realism, slimgrin, there isn't much point in continuing to post here. You aren't going to change anyone's mind, least of all Bioware's, by insisting on a goal that they'd never seriously consider.
Either you have realism as a goal in and of itself, in all areas of the game, or you don't. Bisexual characters aren't "less realistic" than alien sex.
If you can accept a romance with an organism with the opposite chirality to humans, you can accept a romance with someone of the same gender - or even several options of them.
(Heck, if you can accept that turian or quarian or drell psychology even remotely allows for finding humans attractive, and vice versa for Shepard, you can accept renewed feelings for Shepard on the part of some human characters in ME3. At least we know a bit about human sexual behaviour.)

Ah.. good old BSN don't ever change.
And on that bombshell since I've been away from home and a computer I could safely use for my Kaidan fanboying for quite a while, has anything been revealed about who the M/M options in ME3 are and most importantly is Kaidan one of them or is it going to be as I've feared all along that we are going to be condemned to Vega and maybe a male Kelly or two?

ME3 will be the worst game if Tali becomes an f/f LI! She's the best character evar and nothing about her should ever change! She would be ruined! They should do it to Miranda instead. That's totally okay.

Given the details of the leaked script, I would be absolutely STUNNED if Ashley, Kaidan and Vega aren't "bi" options, and there appears to be at least two s/s exclusives, one male, one female. I won't go into detail, but I'm sure Ryzaki and ElitePinecone can direct you to sites with more information.

There are 2 (male & female) new characters we know for sure they will be available for s/s romance. As for Kaidan & Vega (& Ashley) we don't know yet. Their romance dialogues are written completly gender-neutral so we can't be sure either way. The jury's out until we get more info. But these 3 are the only possible candidates for s/s romances left (except the characters we already know they will be - Kelly, Liara + the new male & female I mentioned earlier). Tali, Garrus, Miri, Thane etc. are basically out of question.Finis Valorum wrote...

Really ?, if so I'd very much like to be directed to those sites then so I can judge for myself.
The perils of my job seem to be that I'm always away catering to cooky clients in conservative countries when anything interesting happens.
I still maintain that whatever the script might say any Kaidan m/m action will still be the very first thing to fall victim to eventual budget cuts and time constraints.

These new characters, does anyone know if they are fully featured squadmates or just the new Kelly's?

They ain't squadmates, but they're not as insignificant as Kelly in ME2 either. Plus, Kelly's romance also gets a good expansion.Finis Valorum wrote...

Major crewmen but not squadmates. Like Joker.

Between Joker, dr. Chakwas EDI, Ken and Gabby, Kelly, Kaidan/Ashley, Garrus and Sgt. Garner I'd say all the major positions aboard normandy have been filled already or is the whole crew going to be replaced regardless of whether or not you saved them all in ME2.

I don't trust this script that much, given the amount of unused audio in the previous games....

@ Vapaa -- Unfortunately it is doubtful they would record the lines at all if they are not even in the script. That is different from recording s/s dialog and then not using it.
Sure, but as far as I know, the leaked script is not complete, and we don't know how well it represents what the definitive script will be (at least I don't think so). So I do belive the detallied elements will hardly change, but what isn't mentionned, just remains uncertain.

Other characters mention their orientation very unambiguously, they have unique dialogue about it, and their individual story and character arcs look like they were built around them being, gay/lesbian. Even their names hint at their status - both start with S. (S and S)
Call it a hunch or a gut feeling, but I believe these two characters were created solely as s/s options months ago when the decision was made to have them in ME3, and they'll remain so.

one thing that does worry me is that these two crewmembers that are s/s options as we know they dont come on missions with you off the ship which would I would think would make them very hard to kill so maybe they are taking the easy option with this and these 2 with kelly is all we will get
the only thing that gives me pause is with the new girl and kelly that is 2 s/s options for girls and only one for men so they might have kaidan just to balance the numbers

Yeah, but to most corporate suits F/F is like totally hawt and raises the good kind of
controversy in the American press, whilst any overt M/M content on the
other hand is considered jucky and carries rather negative connotations
amongst the demographic to which video game marketing still
predominantly caters.

yea I agree with that but its not just the corporate world its the whole world being a bi girl I dont get half as much hassle as gay guys get from certain people in the world but they are already taking a massive step if the guy is fully gay I cannot think of another li in any game being gay and not just bi
how did the us press handle dragon age and its m/m content guess bioware can take a guide from that

I've been stalwartly avoiding spoilers for ME3, going so far as to not watch any trailers, but the temptation to find out who the s/s options would be was too great! I've been trying not to get my hopes up for Garrus seeing as I thought it rather unlikely (no matter what, Garrus and Shep will always have the most epic bromance evar!), but I cant help but feel a little disappointed. Is this 100% certain?
