Poor choice of words is all, I didn't mean to focus on sexuality as their defining point and would be as you say. What I meant is create a character just like any of the others but decide that they are going to be gay or straight, like when they decide that they are going to make a m/f and a f/f scene for liara, but only a m/f for garrus/tali/ash/kaiden.

Make the rest of the character just as they would otherwise

Edit: leaving sexuality out entirely would be preferable if it impacted negitative on the character quality, as I've come to really enjoy biowares storytelling and character driven plots.

That is what they do, I think.

They write focusing on the character...tweak the scenes for each gender (make some differences where appropriate) and call it a day.

Hopefully then these new characters live up to the same quality we've come to enjoy from bioware's writers.

I always wondered if it was somehow related to DADT.

I mean, yeah, it's gays in space, but it's still gays in the millitary (in space).

Yeah but you know, they implemented an entire race of bisexual babes along with elaborate explanations how much they like human chicks

Yeah, but that's blue skinned alien women going after hot women. You and I both know that doesn't count. Hawt lesbians, especially hot blue lesbians, are always acceptable in manly men's stories.

(As is feminizing Ashley and buffing up Kaidan's face, which has kinda been annoying me lately)

And unfortunately I think that was one of the main reasons for lack of m/m romances in ME1 & ME2 - the manly man bias (no matter concious or not). I mean, they've heard complaints about lack of m/m romances after ME1. And for ME2, they were creating male analogy of Asari - hot green male aliens. Yet they decided to retsict Thane to FemShep. I mean??? I certinately don't buy any 'lack of time' excuse with ME2, that had had freaking 7 LIs lol, all with unique romance scenes.

But you can't play as a "manly man" and see the lesbian action.

You have to roll a female...which is kind of funny b/c manly men don't play as women.

From what I've read of the new f/f LI, the romance content is pretty good (better than the ME2.ME1 romances I think)...but that would apply to all the ME3 stuff (it seems they are focusing more and more on squad relationship development and banter).

I don't recall this romance mentioning sexuality or anything either...it's just about two people finding love and blah blah blah.

I get called a "meninist" and such all the time and I occasionally play as a female character. But I generally don't like games where you have to play as one.

Because most of the Mass Effect romance dialogue is pretty shallow IMO?

Well then, you're not a 'manly man' by definition.

I found this comic that illustrates my point

haha, well I agree with all of that, and the last thing I want to do is bash Bioware, which is my favorite company, or Mass Effect, which is my favorite series and was even before I found out they were adding s/s to ME3.  And they can talk about cutscenes and space and genderless boobs all they want and I'll accept it with only slightly rolling my eyes; the only thing that really kind of bugged me was when they insisted (I don't have a link but I remember reading an interview that said this) that male Shepard didn't have any s/s options because he was always meant to be straight.  It's the same thing that a lot of people have been clamoring about on the forums, and getting banned, when they say that Shepard was "obviously" not gay and making him so would be retconning the character, even if you played through the first two games with no LI.  It was kind of a slap to the face, and it's why I said in an earlier post that I wouldn't care if the conversation you have with Cortez is the only thing we got, it's enough to me that I can make my Shepard resemble me now.  And all is forgiven.

Ugh yeah the Liara isn't female!!!111 is where I was "Just...no." And yeah the "dude Shep is straight!" made me gag. The whole "no s/s romances though because we want to keep the game pg-13." is where I was just .

And yes just being able to say Shep was gay/had a same gendered lover that he/she was going home too would've been perfect for me.

Though now I want Vega.

No, I agree. And I'm ... I wouldn't say I'm cool with it, but don't lie to me, for chrissakes. I'm a big boy. I like it better when we're honest. Lesbians are hot. Gay men are girly and threatening in a RAWR story about MANLY MANLY MANLY.

Who knows? Maybe they thought they'd get a bigger audience if they cut out the human s/s pairings. And maybe this was their AHHAHAHA WE GOT YOU NOW, INSECURE TEENAGERS OF THE WORLD. TO FINISH THIS GAME YOU MUST GAY-MANCE A MAN AND HAVE HIM TOUCH YOUR HEAVY WEAPONS.

Maybe this was their plan.

They do to watch the butts and play lesbians. I shouldn't snark about femShep. I like her. I'm a little worried about what they'll do to her animations, though. I hope they're not like femHawke's.

I just think that if they wanted to add in lesbianism solely for the sake of appealing to the 'manly manly man' crowd that they would have allowed the 'manly manly men' to still play as a 'manly manly man' and see the lesbian action on top of that (threesome with Ashley/Liara...two asari strippers making out in Chora's Den, etc.)

TBH, this particular gem is by Ray Muzyka, who's amazing and started BioWare and is personally responsible for their greatenes and all, but these days, some of the PR quotes he gives to the press are just...

Ahh and this gem is by Casey. I like him alot, he's a great designer and seems to be a really nice dude but it does make me wonder why ME3 will be the very first BioWare game under his lead to have m/m romance(s), while all 3 previous games he led had lesbian content.

Frankly, I agree with Kawamura. If they didn't want m/m romances, they could've just said it and spare everyone the numerous excuses (each one making less sense than the previous) through years lol

Because 4/5ths of the players do not care about the lesbian content and I guess that's what he figured he could "get away with."

Ehh, I've talking about all of this so many times I guess at this point I just wanna focus on the future. Don't like what BioWare had to say on the topic of m/m romances in ME in the past, but I'm very happy whatever reasons stopped them from implementing it doesn't seem to be a problem anymore. Just hope there will be more than 1 m/m option. Kaidan, Vega & Cortez would be ideal :)

It's not really Mass Effect related and it's not just about homosexuality either, so sorry for that, but this film deserves attention and I just thought of it again and felt like advertising it :)

Completely agree with this (except I could take or leave Vega).  Casey said that he was happy to announce s/s options for both genders and I don't see any reason to question that.  People's views are always evolving; it's entirely possible that they really didn't see a reason to add male s/s options in the past and now they do.  And that's a good thing; I always admire people who can evaluate their own views and then, on reflection, change them.
