No-one can beat Liara, but I might make a Shepard in the future that wouldn't be compatible with her. Not so fussed on Ashley (can't forget her being mean to Liara) if it were up to me Miranda would become a s/s LI.

I feel the same (except for the Ashley part...I like her, just not for romance).

Did I sound like I was hating on Ashley? I actually quite like her, thought her stories about her sisters were interesting (unlike Kaidan's stories about boarding school) and by the end of ME1 I realised she wasn't really racist. But she did seem petty and immature in regards to Liara which was just really unattractive. If Ashley did become a s/s LI I'd be pleased in the same way I'd be pleased if Kaidan was, its not for me but I'm glad if it makes some people happy.

Oh, I'm sorry then...I must have misread/misconstrued/missed something.  No worries :)

Not to be THAT GIRL, but, this seems to be getting more and more image heavy. It might be best to nip that in the bud before the thread can be considered spam.

No, you're right. A couple a page is probably fine but we don't want to overdo it.

Questions: Why are you 'teh player' attached to the former LI that is your fave absolute all time bestest evar? Why is your Shepard into this character and why would s/he possibly be interested in pursuing a romance with that specific LI?

I tried bringing up my problems with a lesbian Jack about a dozen or so pages ago, but no one bit, but now that I see some posts from s/s Jack fans, I'll bring it up again.

Jack said she isn't a "girls' club" kind of woman, and unlike almost all the other characters, that leaves very little room for leeway. While I don't appose a lesbian Jack in theory, that statement and her personal history would make a same sex relationship offensive to me.

Jack said she was once part of a threesome, so she has had sex with at least one woman. But she did not describe it as a loving relationship. The couple was taking advantage of an emotionally (and biotically) unstable young woman (perhaps even a minor). She said she isn't into girls, so I say let that stand. Arguing that she should be bisexual because she has a history of being sexually molested by men and women is sad and sick.

There are numerous character threads in which images (especially the squee-worthy ones) can be posted and discussed. This is not one of those threads right now, so let's please try and keep the pics out of the discussion for the time being. Thank you for your co-operation.

Before I start, I must emphasize: IN MY OPINION.

I can understand Ashley being suspicious and mean about Liara. Liara is the daughter of one of Saren's henchmen, and only the natural "paragon" bias of role playing games makes it even remotely acceptable for Shepard to trust her so soon. Also, until now, most of Ashley's experience with Asari was probably exotic dancers. Plus ME1 was pretty clear about how humans are the new kids on the block and made no secret of the fact that the other established Citadel races look down on them.

Later, once Benezia dies, it is Ashley who suggests that Shepard look on Liara and expresses concern for her emotional well being.

To be honest, I was NOT impressed with Liara in ME and would have discounted her as "typical multi-color sci fi chick" if not for LotSB. In ME2 and LotSB, Liara gets and air of independence, grows a backbone, and demonstrates that she can survive on her own without Shepard as a LI. She stops being a Shepard cheerleader, she snaps at Shepard (and Shepard snaps back!), and she loses that "Oh, Shepard! You are SO AWESOME!" look in her eye. It was almost like a DA2 rival romance, only better written.

Now she is a character worthy of being a friend or lover for my Shepards. I still haven't romanced her myself. Liara got her hooks into my BF's red head female Shepard.

EDIT: Damn, but I used "also" too much.

I would agree that Ashley has reason to be suspicious of the alien crew members, Shepard is probably a little too trusting but in my first playthrough I was probably too busy thinking "cool aliens" to think about if they could be trusted. I do like Ashley but some of her comments about Liara bugged me (probably doesn't help that I'm a Liara fangirl) her joking about Liara's sex life seemed a bit mean plus is wasn't professional to say to Shep. But she did redeem herself when she was concerned about Liara after. Overall there is more about Ashley that I like than dislike but I don't really find her attractive. I like Liara in ME1 because she's the cute nerdy character, but I like how she changes in ME2. Her arc reminds me of Willow from Buffy now I think of it.

Some characters strike a nerve, either in a good or bad way. Acting is a huge part of the success or failure of a LI, but also WRITING. I recognize the limitations of writing romances, so I give the game makers some slack and suspend disbelief at times, but the relationship should not insult my intelligence or stretch credulity to the breaking point.

I (male Abispa here) like Ashley the best. Her failings are believable and understandable, and her conversations with Shepard are some of the best in the game. While Liara got an awesome make-over in LotSB, Ashley has been a consistantly good character. My only real grip is Horizon. Ashley's lines were fine, perfect even, but I HATED HATED HATED how Bioware only gave my Shepard a bunch of assine lines to explain himself. Ashley had every right to storm off, and I'm surprised she didn't knee him in the crotch.

Well, as the current options, Liara is my fave. Why do I like her? Well, in ME 1 when she expresses intrest in Shepard, she gets all flustered and stumbles over herself, which I found really cute. I haven't played LotSB, so I can't comment on that, but what I know about it makes me like her even more as she was the one who worked to recover Shepard's body.

Why is my Shepard into her? Well, my current fem!shep, Diana, didn't want to be a Spectre in the first place, but bit the bullet of political pressure. She had also embraced life as a soldier after joining the Alliance after she was picked up on Mindoir, so she hadn't ever considered relationships of any kind. Then, she met the Consort, Sha'ira, who's uncanny ability to read people peeled away some of Diana's insicurities and made her start the process of opening up.

When she met Liara, she was taken in by her "innocence". She was a girl who's sole calling was science/history and she didn't look at Shepard with expectations or demands. Shepard found herself able to relax around Liara and it was the fact that she could, finally, be herself that started her romantic attraction to her.

Yes, I've thought about it quite a bit, but that's because I've been writing little fanfics focusing on moments in the game as I play that I wanted to expand on and dig into my Shepard's head.

This is called a strawman fallacy, look it up because NO ONE is making that argument.  I suggest not trying to use this tactic again, you will get called out on it.

1.) You have not one bit  conclusive evidence about what the "girls club" line meant.  I've used IDENTICAL language to describe myself....but that's because I'm a bit of a tomboy who doesn't do the fashion, feelings etc bs. discussion with other women, especially straight ones.  Doesn't not make me into women.

2.) It's actually interesting that she mentions the name of the woman in that relationship, screwed up as it may or may not be, and not the man. It indicates, though of course does not prove, that she is the more important player  and that her betrayal is worse in Jack's eyes.

3.) She's the one that mentions "boyfriends and girlfriends", when Shep inquires into her past.

Is she gay/straight/bi?  I don't know for sure.  My feeling is Jack just wants someone who loves her with no conditions but is still willing to challenge her.  The genitals would be unimportant.

Garrus! Garrus! Garrus!

I originally took Kaidan. He's sweet, and I still have a Shepard for him, but...

Garrus!

Love that voice. Love his sense of humor. And I love all of his screw ups.

A secret to all the guys out there... GIRLS LOVE HAVING TO POWER TO SAVE YOU DUMMIES FROM YOURSELVES! Come to me for salvation and you can be blessed by the mortal representation of the Goddess!

Not to mention that since aliens' abilities are still unknown, it leaves so much to the imagination!

Garrus!

EDIT: *ahem* I'm going to insist she get her own Bioware account from now on.

I vote for Kaidan being a M/M romance option. He was such a hottie in ME1. Whoops, he died on Virmire. And I'm left with Ashley? Good god. Time for a replay.

Seriously, though, please Bioware, put in a hot dude as an M/M option. Someone with muscles and machismo would work for me.  Oh, and if straight gamers get big boobs on their chicks, I want a nice package downstairs. Thank you.

Sooo, I just wanted to chime in and say that the FemShep\\Miranda pictures made me reevaluate the fact that I would in fact be open for FemShepXMiranda...

Dammit BW, once I find out who the F/F options are I'm probably going to have to make one single FemShep to take through 1 and 2 just so she can try out the different new romances in 3!

I think it depends on how you interpret that line.  In my first playthough, I thought she was just saying "I don't want to be your best girlfriend and talk about shoes and boys and crap."

It wasn't until I came onto the BSN that I even thought of the other interpretation (no gay!) because others pointed it out.

I'm probably most attached to Ashley because in some ways she is like an idealized version of me.  Spiritual, outspoken/opinionated, bit of a tomboy etc.  Of course there are more differences than similarities but those ones I mentioned make her a very interesting character and helps me identify with her.

If Ashley becomes a s/s LI I haven't decided yet if my main canon Shep will dump Liara for her, assuming such things are possible.  If not I would create a similar Shep to complete the romance.  While my Shepards are not me, my main canon ones do closely share my outlook and basic values so they would be interested in Ashley for pretty much the same reasons.
