I thought Gaider wanted Alistair to be the 'bi' male option but that got pulled from above?  Or is that a wild rumor?

I don't mind...I share tastes in women with straight guys.

I'm not sure what is the difference between designing an LI to appeal to 'straight guys' vs. 'lesbians' since members of both groups have wildly different tastes.

TBH, I don't share tastes in women with straight guys, mostly, and I'd appreciate a female character written without appealing to dudes being the first and sometimes only priority.

Well, what are looking for in your chick, that a chick that's into dudes wouldn't have? Besides an interest in woman?

I modded DA to romance Alistair before I even started because I just found Zevran's look so unappealing (I don't even know how we're calling that "pretty"), but as I was playing the game, I actually wound up having a hard time making a choice between the two because I liked both of their personalities--and accents, ha! And more than anything, I loved having such different choices.

That's definitely where I'd like to see ME3 go: Cortez, Vega, Kaidan, YES! I would play through all three. :D

Probably a chick that's into chick that doesn't have all the guys going, "Dude, that new lesbian character is hawt, bro!" It would ruin her verisimilitude.

...right whatever. :pinched:

Honestly, as long as they turn out like Leliana, Liara, Isabela and Merrill, I don't care, who they are trying to cater to. There are some minor hiccups, though, but that could happen as well, if they tried to "directly cater" to us.
I've enjoyed all of those romances and Silk Fox, too.
The only thing I got mad about is, that I had to roll a male Shep for Ash, Miranda and Jack.

The problem is for designing a female same sex love interest that appeals to lesbians is that it is difficult (at least for me) to make that. It seems like it varies sometimes and some lesbians actually like many of the same things a Heterosexual male like in a woman.

They should just focus on making great characters, give us variety in those. Disregard sexual orientation, it can be part of a character, but doesn't have to be in games like that and give everyone the choice to choose their LI according to character and not sexual orientation.  We all are different, we all have different tastes, regardless if gay or straight, female or male.

Use verisimilitude instead of immersion. It sounds better. B)

I don't get what you mean.

If you're talking about oversexualized characters, well Miranda and Morrigan are exclusive to the male character. Are you saying Liara is oversexualized? Leli is oversexualized? Merrill is oversexualized?

No. We were talking about brining in unnatractive female characters like there are IRL. Hooray for realism!

That is all well and good and I agree with it but my statement was more for those who say they want to have a character made for Lesbians which seems difficult since like any Heterosexual there likes and dislikes can vary a lot.

Well, we are shooting fire balls, and fighting people in slow-mo. I think RL is not what you should expect.

Subjective as all hell unless you bring in someone really freaking awful looking your going to get arguments over whether or not the character is unattractive. Hell Aveline isn't the hottest female bioware character but she is likeable and quite pretty with the freckles and orange hair. Hawke can try but fail to get into a romance with her though.

Yup.

Some heterosexual girls like beefcakes, some like bishounen (same goes for gay guys), some like broody, some hate it, so on and so forth.

I prefer the broody (not too broody though) pretty boy types. Or the good looking but not overly bulky upbeat nice guy type.

...who the hell am I kidding. I like any kind of attractive guy that's not an ****.

What can I say? I have low standards.

Well, then. Looks like the devs have their work cut out for them for future games.

But that's why I support more choices.  More choices can make everyone happy!  Theoretically.

Well I do admit that these female romances are created with the idea in mind that males will be romancing them and each have certain elements that are geared towards that.  But, luckily that isn't all there is to these characters.

And I would like to see character take precedence to romance as well.  It helps to avoid characters that seem 'flat' when you aren't romancing them.

I only occasionally lurk on this thread when it seems like y'all have an interesting tangent.  And Zevran always interests me.  :wizard:

I actually like the fact that there've been two elven male LIs in the Dragon Age games. In the past, in most fantasy novels, the elven LIs were female and presented as delicate flowers for the hero's prize in imitation of Arwen and Aragorn of LotR. It got to the point that I'd put a book back on the shelf if the cover blurb indicated the male hero ended up with the elven princess. I nearly cheered when I saw Zevran as a female LI. It was even more astonishing when he was romancable by male PCs, too. Fenris was just icing, despite my initial misgivings over his characterization (I was worried about the whole anime stereotype -- he may look like it, but he didn't act like it). For once, the chicks got the elves. Yeah... the guys could, too... but they were still male elves and most definitely NOT princesses, but deadly, trained killers.

So, what the writers did with Zevran and Fenris was not to appeal to the fans that were attracted to the boyish-looks-type, or whatever the term is nowadays, but rather, the intent was to genre bust.  The elves weren't the delicate, eternal princesses to be paired with the hulking hero.  They were fighters.  And most definitely NOT delicate (in behavior -- all elves LOOK delicate -- it's a trope).  And most definitely not female.

If Kaidan ends up a bi-LI, it will be more genre busting on Bioware's part... since you don't usually see a male Marine in fiction admitting to any sort of same-sex attraction.

And now... I'll go back to lurking.  :wizard:

If BioWare ever make a s/s female LI in any of their future games that has a strong resemblence to Sue Perkins, I will worship them and send them cakes. All the cakes I can find. Plus whatever else I can find that they might like. Yorkshire puddings, maybe.

That is what I am trying to say: You can't make A character for all lesbians. Make great female characters. Period.
And while there were some things about the already existing characters, that can lead to the conclusion that they were made with young males in mind, at the end of the day, I enjoyed them.
And there are those young males as well, who rather react negatively to the fact, that they are being manipulated into liking those women with a few specific character traits/design choices. So you cannot cater to them as a whole group either.
Of course it would be nice, if they didn't try to specifically appeal to any group with any of the characters, but that goes for both, young males and lesbians.

But lesbain woman are attractive too in real life. Guinevere Turner is attractive. An unattractive character can apply to any sexuality. I don't see how that's an exclusive. And even then, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Sue Perkins looks cute to my eyes.

As for intentionally making a character unattractive, I don't think Bioware will ever do that, because as they said, romances are expensive. They aren't going to put work into something that 80% of their players would not want. Example, they aren't going to make a happy rapist an LI, who has no regrets. They are going to design them so a good % of players are going to like them.
