I wouldn't be surprised one iota for Bioware to put some (male Shepard) Liara romance somewhere in the trailers. Or even Ashley or Tali.

Oh, I'm sure there will be some Asari or Miranda scenes to show the players that "Hey! Look! We got broads in tights and high heels!" Like they did in the ME2 trailers, but nothing that clearly shows they're LIs.

FemShep to Garrus: "I'm too gay for buttsex"

FemShep to Tali: "Alright! Let's link suits!"

Yup. Like they did the renegade sex scene with Jack.

I think there was also another trailer that had the more expanded scene where she unzips her jumpsuit.

 ( only because Yvonne Strahovski is one of the only women I'd go straight for )

Well...they also had the Ashley sex scene for the ME1 launch trailer.

It's not ME, but they also put Hawke/Isabela in the DA2 trailers.

Huh. Guess we should be expecting one with Liara then. It seems having the leading ladies' sex scene is a tradition.

How was Ashley the leading lady? Aside from the fact that I don't like the idea of any squadmates or LIs being seen as the "lead", she was the one female squadmate that had no plot-relevance and could die.

Pre release she was the one in most of the commercials and on the game box.

Leading lady is the closet to the term I can think of though I'm sure there's a more accurate term.

Plus while you may not like the idea their are squaddies and LIs that are the lead. Liara being the most blatant example.

ME1 and 2, DA and II and KOTORs had "leading lady/man roles":

ME1: Kaidan and Ashley
ME2: Miranda and Jacob
ME3: Vega and Liara? ME3 is a little muddy since Ashley and Kaidan can be dead. So...it maybe that the leading role will not be lady/man but just Vega/VS.

DAO: Alistair and Morrigan
DAII: Varric and Aveline

KOTOR I: Carth and Bastila
KOTOR II: Kreia and Atton

She was the leading lady because she was the human female you could meet first and bang. That was enough. Plus she was on the box.

I suppose that's a good point; it does seem that Bioware tries to push the "first recruited human female LI" heavily in their marketing. Basically this tends to be the LI that I don't go for (although DA:O is the exception).

Yup. Though DA2 to me was a toss up between Aveline and Isabela. Pretty sure it's gonna be Vega and Liara for ME3 though just to keep things less confusing.

@Cthulhu42: Me neither. That said I do tend to go for the guys so.

I can see Isabela from a marketing perspective (hey look at this girl with jugs the size of watermelons reading to bust from her blouse - admittingly, I do have a soft spot for the **** with a heart of gold) but from someone who has actually played the game, Aveline would be the leading female as she is one of two party members who can never be "sent away" or killed and she replaces the love interest should there not be one and she's there from the beginning. Not only Isabela be sent away (though she can't be killed off) but you can avoid recruiting her all together.

Isabela has far more impact on the plot than Aveline though.

Plus Morrigan can be sent away. She can't be missed but she can be sent away as soon as you reach Lothering.

She doesn't replace the LI either even if Hawke doesn't have one.

And DA2 just continues to confuse me.

It would be more like Atton & Handmaiden/Visas. Irrelevant anyway. Kreia was 100% rightfully the HBIC of Kotor 2

Wait, if we're talking about who can be sent away/killed, then wouldn't that bring back my original point that Ashley is the only ME1 female who can be killed in that game?

She's also the only human female. Her being human supercedes anything else. Her being the first female you recruit (and thus the first female that Shep can flirt with) also works in her favor.

Tali's not human nor a romance option and Liara can be avoided until the eleventh hour. Ash is leading female by default.

Shep *has* to have her up until Virmire (plus she was saved the most often), Shep *has* to recruit her first, She talks to Shep during those debriefings whether he likes it or not, doing so much as breathe in her direction initates her romance, so on.

How racist. Well, my ME3 playthrough (at least my first one) will have no human females at all on the squad, so I guess that'll change things.

It's not racist. It's just the way it works.

Eh the game will give you one then...or something close to one.

That said Liara will probably be the lead in ME3. She looks close enough to a human to pass.

Handmaiden is avoided by the female Exile and Visas can be avoided until the end if you manage to keep your aignment bar level. Love interest is typical for leading male/female but not required...if you can even call the KOTOR 2 interests "love interests".

Yeah...Kreia is x9000000000 better than Handmaiden. (Not that Discplie is any better -_- ).

Yeah I wouldn't consider them LIs in the least. But if only. Oh Atton. WHY IS IT THE AWESOME GUYS ARE NEVER LIS? WHY?!?

*weeps bitterly over pictures of Canderous, Zu, Varric and Atton*

Oh, I know what character you're talking about there.  Yes, I suppose she is close to human, in a way.

Anyway, doesn't really matter to me who Bioware considers the lead. Won't stop me from generally using the optional, non-lead characters more often anyway.
