Actually I think that Priestly said that attacking people's opinions is taboo on the forums yesterday. I was simply stating why I think previous characters should not be s/s and that the new ones should be. As for the Pastor down your street...good for him. I'm glad he is not afraid to be who he is but that far from normal in the Christian church.

First off, we don;t know how the human society exactly looks like in ME universe - even if BioWare creates a work of sci-fi they didn't give us proper info on it; There are no Human: Society or even Human: Religion codex entries, which would provide some insight. We just know some basic facts, like the gap between poor & rich is even wider.
Personally, I think thats because BioWare tried to avoid more controversy, whereas proposing a model of human society where, in XXII century - for example - 75% are athesist or agnostic, or homosexuals don't have to fight for their rights anymore would surely cause serious trouble in some of the media.
Point is: we don't know, if ME universe homosexuals hide in the closet, or if nobody gives a damn about it. It would be perfectly ok, if that Sanders guy was openely gay and told it when he would have the very first opportunity (f.e. some friendship talk).

We do, actually.

The ME novels are pretty clear that the world is a more socially liberal and open place, and a true melting pot. Racism and sexism are, for the most part, out of the equation.

Also, Hendel Mitra - an openly gay biotics instructor (and, I believe, an alliance officer? I don't remember exactly what his role is).

He's also stated on many occasions that the discussion of real-world religious issues are taboo as well. In fact, it's on the OP of this forum. In any event, "Big Monotheism's" views on homosexuality are off-topic.

Priestly told us not to call anyone homophobic, which is not going on right now.  They are merely asserting that your theory about Ashley being Christian and therefore not bisexual is something they disagree with.

my sister is gay and shes a Christian more so than ashley

I’m not really attacking anything,  you’re the one making an over generalization of whole groups of peoples based on their worship of a deity.  I’m simply stating that being a part of one of the big three monotheistic religions doesn’t necessarily make one straight.  Ashley really hasn’t shown anything outside of her “Yo dawg,  god’s totally kicking it in the sky somewhere.” as being a faithful member of any flock.

What exactly is normal, I think normal is defined by each individual, that is how complex normal is.....we have to break away from collective mob thinking and religious archaic dogma, we have evolved (well some have), it's time to get real and let go of this mob mentality. Live and let live.....enjoy your life....and play the GAME they way YOU want...

Actually I said almost all. I left room for those who are more liberal....it still a very small group though. I was also stating my reason why I didn't think it would fit her character. Apparently I don't get an opinion.

Nope, you do get your opinion...  but it is my right to not agree with your opinion in the slightest.  As such, I will exercise my right to speak my opinion just as you have used yours.

One thing that I'd like to note - and it may be slightly off-topic, but...

Ashley is very frequently unfairly characterized as either a religious nut-job for her extremely vaguely professed religious beliefs or a vile racist for her misguided but understandable mistrust of Turians (which stems from her family history). She's neither of these things. It's annoying.

Here is a better way to state it. She may be bisexual BUT her faith makes it very much less likely to act on her attraction to women. I would like to state that I don't hate homosexuals or bisexuals. My father was gay and came out of the closet when I was a year old. I am actually a liberal person. I was simply trying to explain why I thought it was out of place for Ashley. I have no problem with a gay Shepard (male or female) or new characters being introduced as gay. I just don't want characters to be out of character for a romance.

A better piece of evidence against her bisexuality would be evident boy-craziness.

Not arguing against her being bisexual, I just think that would have been a stronger argument for people to use rather than her so-called religious fervor.

This is more suitable to me, and I won’t argue against it. I’ve tended to NOT see Ashley as particularly extreme in her faith, so, I’ve never really thought it would really influence her anymore than your average jane church goer. Truthfully, for all I know she could worship cthulu or the flying spaghetti monster. On a serious note, I don’t object to this statement overly much.

So what ? If you killed a certain companion, it's your loss. Not everybody else's
If the possibility of dying means no romance in ME3, then for that very reason they should remove the romance from Tali, Garrus, etc.... Do you think they should do that ?
Besides, people want to romance their favourite character. I bet those squaddies are alive in their saves.
Hell, I don't care about half  the quaddies in ME2 and they all make it through the SM.

Dead horse. Tali and Garrus didn't show any interest in the first game and look what happened.
Besides, sexuality is not a fact carved in stone for everybody to read it.
For many people Ashley was always gay in their games, so there wouldn't be a change
If it's well written, any romance can be great.

It becomes difficult when real life and the game has some areas that cross over.  When does talking about the game become talking about reality and vice versa?  Truthfully it seemed like the discussion has ended anyway, and we both agreed to disagree.  It's not like either of us are going to convince the other that we're wrong.

First off, no.

Second...no.

Her "xenophopia" is, as I earlier pointed out, is really non-existent. People go to those two extremes all the time, which is ridiculous. Even if she were as virulently xenophobic as people like to claim, that is irrelevant to her sexuality.

Respectfully, you really shouldn't be offended, particularly if you're aware of this topic's history.

The mods don't police these threads, we do. If they happen to come in and see 30 pages of troll garbage that resulted from one small, controversial tangent like religion, or gender politics, or whatever (this has happened) the thread gets closed and the discussion gets disrupted, sometimes for days or weeks.

That's why some people are touchy and overly defensive. Keeping this thread on-topic can be an uphill battle.

We won't know what happens until the game actually releases, since they keep a tight lid on the romance options typically. So around we go, for the next nine months.
