Doubtful. The Vega thread has been full of S/S support for months now. I imagine that they've been keeping an eye on it. Not that this means anything, but still...

I'll be very annoyed if Cortez is the only M/M option. I don't know what Bioware would mean by it, but to me it would be like being told my manShep doesn't deserve to romance any of the essential male crew members. F**k that! Everyone else gets an actual ME squad to romance and we get a shuttle pilot. I don't care how well written he is: there is some appeal lost there for me. Vega is my main option, but if not him, than Kaidan would be nice, although it would be an F-ed up thing to do since he can be dead in some playthroughs.

This, along with the lack of Cortez line in test file, proves m/m romances were late addition in the developement, they probably haven't done anything on them yet when they initially announced it.

The Cortez M/M romance is in the test file, so that is at least partially incorrect.

Didn't we establish that that line is *not* in the test file? All the info in this thread is confusing me.

edit: this refers to Tali's line for Ashley / Liara, but not Cortez in the 1st file. No one said that the romance itself isn't in it.

Think of when the files everyone's been looking at may have been created. Then think of how late Bioware could have added a whole new gender to a romance. That encompasses more scripting, more voice acting, more animating, more cutscene creation, etc.

Also consider cost vs. benefit. They already had Cortez as an option for M/M players at this point.

I'll be very annoyed if Cortez is the only M/M option. I don't know what Bioware would mean by it, but to me it would be like being told my manShep doesn't deserve to romance any of the essential male crew members. F**k that! I don't really feel the same. If the romance is developed and as valid as the others, it doesn't matter that he's not part of the squad, imo.

I keep forgetting Vega. And I have him in my signature. Facepalm smiley. This forum needs one.

I like Cortez, too, but next to Kaidan and Vega, he's just not that appealing.

He's not.

And if he's blond his appeal factor (for me at least) would drop into the negatives. =]

As for cost vs benefit...one could really say the same about having Ash/Kaidan be reromanceable when they can be dead in games. (or having Tali and Garrus as squaddies period).

But it will matter if he's the only option. Every single other group have multiple options. Straight ManShep has literally a harem of girls to pick from. FemShep has alot too. LesShep already has *guaranteed* 3 options - Samantha, Kelly (romance arc spanning across 2 games) and of course Liara who has the biggest romance arc in the entire trilogy. And we would be the only group to have a single option?

Well... they've been kind of d*cks about it, so I do see it happening.

I wish it doesn't, though. Having Steve and Vega as m/m would be enough for me. Steve, Vega and Kaidan would be excellent, and all of those plus Garrus plus Prothy would be pure ecstasy (I know it's not going to happen, shut up, let me dream)

It sucks, but very few people are going to play as GayShep to begin with, sadly. I can picture Cortez being last in the "Who did you romance?" Polls.

I really don't care how much he's romanced (actually I don't believe FemShep's options get much love either. It may seem like a lot of people on BSN but in the great pool of the telemetry data it's not a great percentage. Hell most don't even do the romances to begin with.) I just want to be able to pick from more than one LI. Or if I'm stuck with one exclusive LI for it to be someone very important to the plot or at the least a squadmate.

That's only if there's *one* option though. I have no issues with minor characters as additional options.

Indeed. My femShep had females (asari or no) hitting on her left and right. She now has one extra option to get some lesbian action, and who knows how many flirt opportunities ala Morinth / the consort are in the game. ManShep, on the other hand - in case Cortez just isn't his type.... forever alone.

Going with this argument, BioWare could say "we shouldn't waste time upgrading Engineer class since less than 5% people play it, let's just give Soldier tons of new stuff and only 1 new feature to Engineer ". And we all know they would never do it. So they should apply the same logic to romances. It doesn't matter how many players in total use the content. This is about the experience and options for every individual player. In the end, it's about individual John/Jane Smith, sitting in front of his/her console or PC and expecting Engenieer class will be just as good as Soldier class no matter which one he picks. No one cares what other players chose in their playthroughs.

I think I was saying that to stress my point of Cortez being a throw away. As if s/s isn't good enough so we get just this one guy.

Doesn't Tali use the Engineer class ?  They had to input it the new features anyways for her, right?

And Bioware is all about fan pandering and appeal.  Look at Tali's shoehorned involvement, or the new pictures of the spoiler character.

I would say I expected this considering the series started with a race of "hot" space lesbians.
Quite possibly they have the heterosexual male player (who constitute the majority of players, and more so than Dragon Age) in mind the most. That means lots of M/F and some F/F.
M/M is minority niche.

But it will matter if he's the only option.

Maybe. I see your point. Wouldn't save the fact that M/M would still be highly underrepresented, even less so than F/F (which is 7 if you also count all of the possible F/F flirtations known so far), though.

So far Cortez being appealing or not. It's hard to tell when we've only got some lines in often vague or unclear contexts and some WIP screenshots/videos.

But then there are omni-blades for example. Why not give it only to the Soldier since he's played by 65% of players? OR why not give extra options in character creator for White Shepards in ME3 since most of the Shepards are white? Or why not give more Paragon interrupts/persuades/options since most people play Paragon? See my point? They would never do it because in these aspects they DO realize that when you offer game with choices, then all choices should be equally rich. They will (and should) of course produce different results, that's the point of having choices, but in their complexity/size/amount (depending on what the choice is about) they should be equal.

Seems more and more likely to be that way doesn't it?

Since all romance options are ultimately just accessories to customize one's character I still vastly prefer the they're all Bi or they're all Shepardsexual option, however since that's not in the cards for this game I can understand us not getting as many options as the Straight romances, however m/m getting less options compared to f/f is just ridiculous.
The notion marketing executives seem to have that f/f = hawt and m/m = yuck needs to die already.
I mean from my perception there's a non trivial number of straight women who like guy on guy and yaoi, a large number of them seem to be active on the internet, many of them likely play videogames and I'm willing to bet a significant number of them don't just play games like Angry Birds.
Or maybe I've just spend too much time in Asia and the girls women in the US and Canada are substantially different.
Alas, it seems EA is only interested in attracting the teenage male crowd, never mind the fact that the game seems to be rated for adults.

Well we can only hope that Cortez is really, really cute at this point and either not blonde or barring that that the engine has been improved to the point it can display cute blondes properly.

However, while I now believe that picture I had a rather disproportionate reaction to is in fact not Cortez, from what we do know of Cortez, alliance officer who has been married for at least some time, it seems to me that his age could logically be anywhere from early thirties to late forties (unless he either married really young or quite old or the marriage only lasted a very short time).
Personally I'm getting a mess Sgt. Gardner (also a famliy man before signing up for risky missions) vibe when I try to pictore Cortez myself, which frankly would not bode well for his cuteness.

Also, I know getting a well written romance is cool, but the idea of only having one kind of sucks. It'll feel like Zevran in Origins. My Warden was definitely gay, but stayed FOREVER ALONE. Zevran just wasn't for him.

Bioware always struck me as smart enough to realize the public and economic consequences of insulting a group by giving them crumbs then expecting them to be happy. In fact, everything I've seen indicates that the whole reason they're finally doing it now is that they realized how bad they were making themselves look by leaving it out the first two times and their flailing around in an attempt to excuse it.
That said, there's still the fact that Sbarge confirmed for a fan that he performed the dialogue for a m/m romance. And yet this dialogue is absent from the leaked script. This is especially odd given the reason why we know these options were planned for the first two games. There's also the claim by the developers that the leak was an early draft. As for the script being "straight oriented", DAII was unusual in not being like this. Even Zevran, infamous though he was for being the gay option clearly prefered women. And finally, I have to wonder why the developers would be so coy about this if it's just Cortez, or even just Cortez and Vega. They know by now that we know about Cortez. And yet they insist on staying quiet when asked about romance availability. They were acting the same way with DAII and look what we got out of that.

Sbarge didn't really truly confirm it.  He said something like "I think so" and was open to the possiblilty.
