Before Shep couldn't even say he was gay. Now at least even if Shep doesn't romance Steve he can express interest in the s/s.

I'd say it's a significant improvement.

Can't you see it already, everyone? Once ME3 comes out we're going to get everything wrong with the game blamed on S/S romances.

If multiplayer will be good for anything it'll be good for blaming everything that went wrong with the game.

I probably haven't read enough of the leak, but if Shep doesn't romance or express interest in Steve, at any point in the game, can he then turn down, Ash, Liara and possibly Tali and a number of female flings by outright saying he's only interested in men to them if so that will indeed be a significant improvement ,but one that does not rely on romancing or even expressing interest in Steve.
In fact Bioware could still have added the option to turn down o/s Li's by stating you're gay, without then actually providing us with any s/s Li's.

I don't think so.  The can't whine about the "all-bi" stuff from DA2 because every male squadmember is straight in this game.

There are way more things to whine about. The script has some pretty...questionalbe...moments, and people are already hating EDI.  People are going to be compalining about the story way more than the characters or romances when the came does come out.

Male Shepard doesn't need to express any romantic interest in Steve in order to say he's interested in men.

At most you have to agree to go to a club with Steve and/or Vega.

You don't have to express interest in Steve to be able to talk to him and say you're interested in men. You can just say right after that Shep wants to be friends. I do think it relies on having a friendship with Steve however. Most you have to do is go to Omega with him and talk.

Only rejections I've seen are of the "Let's just stay friends 'kay?" variety. That and telling Steve you're into women.

Frankly I consider being able to romance Steve the majority of the significant improvement. Still it's far far more than Shep had so far.

They could've say: "Hey, we're giving you a non squaddie s/s LI to each gender (plus the current f/fs), so don't expect old characters or anyone else, but they're exclusive."  instead of the " It's a spoiler." thing they kept saying.
Everyone would have known what to expect from the beginning. No one would be upset and those annoying straighties wouldn't have been bothering us for months. It feels like we all were led on.

Anyways, I haven't read the scripts, maybe Steve is so awesome I won't want to romance anyone else, but I don't know yet, and I disappointed because I expected the same amount more or less, f/f players will get.

@Ryzaki Agreed on that, at least gay!shep is alowed to get out of the closet now, because gay!shep was always gay. But it's still worse a gay!shep's role play experience than a lesb!shep's and the straight ones'. And it sucks.

To be frank, I never expected the same amount of attention or options afforded to straight romances but I did at least hope s/s would be treated equally among both genders.

Telling people beforehand that there's only one M/M option (and a crew member instead of a squad member) wouldn't stop people from complaining or being upset.

But let's not get carried away here. We still don't know if Steve is the only M/M option. The leaked scripts were clearly WIP.

Uhg, why would aliens be gay? That simply is not logical because my logical mind doesn't understand it. I don't understand it so it must be dumb. 

Male aliens like female humans and female aliens like male humans. That is how it works. Why on earth would a male alien be attracted to a male human? Gender differences matter a lot if you are going to have sex with an alien species.

Sure, it wouldn't have stopped people from being upset, but I'd rather have realistic expectations ahead of time instead of being disappointed on release day.

Agreed.

Hell. Some fanfic writers are better at some of this ****e. But, authors of books are not writers of games. And the same can be said vice versa. Sure, you can walk that bridge occassionally, but game writing is a completely different experience.

You can be a damn great game writer.

And suck at novels.

Hah! I'd consider that a GOOD thing, personally. Multiplayer, that bigotted ugly world, is only so ugly depending on the multiplayer. If I played Halo, I would be screamed down by crazy ass sexists left and right. I don't play Halo. Too much stress.

L4D? Totally different environment. I think I've dealt with maybe.. two problematic people? Most folk are very cordial, polite, and don't freak out if there is a gay person, a black person, or a woman playing on the other line.

I'm hoping Mass Effect will have more of that crowd, considering how diverse and open ME has been in terms of gameplay. Particularly so with the S/S announcement and hoohah that's followed afterwards.
