One of Abispa's comments prompted me to review the trend of my posts in this thread and I'm ashamed to say there's no lack of internet rage in them. I got away from what I initially thought was important, and that is letting everyone have a choice and be able to take part in character interaction. I owe the people in this thread an apology and I won't be harping on the topic anymore.

Glad to hear it and welcome to the Light Side of the Force :D

Yup and he apparently digs the Asari chicks.

And Gillian grew out of her autism and is 18 despite being born 16 years ago from the events of the book.

I s*** you not.

Also, a 100-year-old beat-up batarian slaver ship has the "standard tantalus drive core" (as used in the original Normandy).

Also, Asari now believe in God.

 hilarious. Embrassing as hell for BW though. Someone(s) didn't do their job right.

I am tempted to buy this simply because of how horrible it is.

I already bought it, sigh. Haven't had a chance to read it.

What I can't work out is: how in the flying frak did nobody from Bioware read this? Was no-one assigned to manage the IP content? Did nobody at least read it over once and notice that Gillian was too old, the Tantalus too common and Hendel too straight? Was there no attempt made to check any of the laughably, blindingly obvious mistakes in the book?

More troublingly: if *this* is released as official Mass Effect canon, what does that say for the care given to the wider IP? If anybody can write lore-breaking, breathtakingly unresearched and unchecked nonsense, and call it canon, what does that say for the attention Bioware is supposed to lavish on their story and narrative?

Apparently not, we're in a recession and Bioware EA probably just cut the budget for proof readers who are actually somewhat versed in the lore of the universe. All the people with actual knowledge of the franchise who could have proofread it where probably otherwise engaged (like writing and programming more sexy wimminz for MSheps harem).

Since streamlining is apparently one of EA favourite buzzwords, maybe they'll say they streamlined or reimagined the lore a little bit it in order to make it more accessible to a broader audience.

You know what? As flimsy as it might be at this point, I'm going to hold on to the hope that the 'Shepard Off-Duty' blog really is implying that James is romanceable by my male!Shep. "Speaking about something that he understandably didn't want to bring up in public"? *crosses fingers*

As for anything about Deception... Dece-wha? Never heard of it. Does not exist. Gillian Anderson is still under the care of Hendel Mitra on a quarian ship somewhere and he's flirting with some sexy-sounding male quarian.

Lolwut? The only gay in the universe is straight now?...So, I'm guessing if this guy wrote a Star Wars novel back in the day he would've made Leia a man? I don't know whether to laugh or facepalm...I'm tempted to become offended, but that sounds like more effort than the book deserves.

Hey now male Leia could actually have made the original films even better.

I interpreted that more as torturing someone by quoting this dreadful novel, since it's not really masochistic if you simply enjoy something, but yeah, I can see that.

The most obvious path for Bioware to take in making all the novels canon is to borrow an idea from DC Comics pre-Crisis or post-Final Crisis.

MULTIVERSE!

There IS a male Shepard! There is a FEMALE Shepard! The Council died! The Council lived! Kaidan is straight! Kaidan is bi! Pinacle Stations sucks! Pinacle Station is the epitome of awesomeness!

I cling to the hope that the leaked novel is an elaborate publicity farce.

Well, I suppose that puts an end to the "Hendel Mitra for future m/m LI" discussion.

In more ways than one. Ugh.

Anyone else find most of the romances already in it troubled, Liara being possibly too young and shepard being the first time shes ever thought about that act, possibly only to have a child gain from his/her unique special features (interaction to protean tech and strong mind), beyond being interspecies and kind of a lesbian romance, reason to exclude m/m romances seem incredibly thin on the ground in comparison.

Liara is 108 years old.

*Liara is my 's/s romance' btw, even if it doesn't count or if it's bad*

I've been (obsessively) thinking about ME3 recently and I've decided I'm gonna be optimistic and say that the VS is gonna be bi. I've made peace with Vega probably being straight but the VS just seems to be the logical choice for a s/s romance. I have NO evidence for this whatsoever but I have faith in BW. I'll romance the hell out of Cortez too but I'm gonna spend the next month in blissful ignorance, imagining my shep's reunion with Kaidan. And I figure if I take some hallucinogens before playing I'll at least be able to see what I wanna see... :-p

There was only ever 1 legitimate reason not to include m/m romances - time constraints. And that reason went outta window when they had time to implement SIX opposite-sex romances in ME2. But we've been through that many times. In the end BioWare eventually admitted to their mistakes which I'm very happy about. That said, we're yet to see to what extenct exactly they realized their mistake, but we need ME3 in our hands to fing that out.

Another reason I could buy is that the ME writers WANT the characters to remain straight and they don't WANT to write a s/s romance for established characters. I may not like that, but at the same time I wouldn't want people who are unhappy with writing s/s relationships with previous LIs creating any. But then Bioware blew that excuse out of the water when they admitted that they created the Garrus and Tali romances as a fan service and defended them as such, even though they themselves thought they were silly.
