Well, since we're at that topic, I'll say that the first time I heard about our only s/s option being called Steve, I immediately thought of Adam and Steve. But where I come from, I've come across that slogan many times and I don't see why I'd need to try hard in order to make that connection.

Maybe he was named in honour of Admiral Hackett or something.

I think that's just as arbitrary as saying it's a reference to the Adam/Steve thing.

It's not that far-fetched, considering that they gave the two same sex LIs "S" names specifically to refer to s/s.

Personally, though, even if someone behind the scenes is snickering at the idea of "Adam & Steve," I wouldn't worry unless it's reflected in how he's actually portrayed in game.

Oh there is no worry, it's just an association, that's all.

I think the only thing that upsets me about Samantha Traynor is that I refuse to use the same name as another dominant character, so now my Samantha Shepard will cease to exist. I see it as a strong name for a female character, but that might be me projecting my love of Stargate's Samantha Carter.

I'm also quite fond of Steve. Is it short for "Esteban" and not "Stephen"? I might have a few nostalgic fits of laughter at Esteban, purely because of a squirrel I once named that, but I love the name Stephen.

It's been hard following this thread and keeping myself somewhat spoiler-free, but I'm excited to learn more about both characters.

Vega gives everyone nicknames, and calls Steve 'Esteban', so I'd tend to think it's actually Stephen.

I am just curious. Do gay men like Kaidan for the exact same reasons straight women do? or are there differentiated reasons for it?

I don't personally speak Spanish, so I could be wrong, but from what I've read 'Esteban' is the Spanish form of Stephen, so Mister Vega calls Steve that as a nick name.

@ElitePinecone, thanks! I hope it's Stephen, as I just really like that name.

@Stardusk78, I like Kaidan because he seems relatively down-to-earth. He's not a very complicated or dramatic person.

@Dirgegun, Esteban is the Spanish form of Stephen, that I know. I was wondering if that was really Cortez's name or not. (Fun side note, in French it's Etienne!)

From the one line of dialogue in the beta (the shuttle to Sur'Kesh) that I heard months ago, Cortez doesn't sound overtly South-American or Spanish. Though obviously that could've been placeholder audio.

That's what I was referring to, not the race (I am a quarter Greek, a quarter Iranian and half Spanish, so I enjoy the race mixing in ME) but his accent and the words he use when he speaks Spanish if he does speak more than two words, whatsoever.
I suppose I'm just impatient to know more of him, we'll see in the demo soon enough (not soon enough)=]

edit: Yes Esteban is Spanish form of Steve. In spanish we say: "Adán y Esteban" lol

That does seem differentiated from what the females claim, the content of which could fill a novel. I am more on board with your take.

He does use a Spanish word now and then (at least I think it's Spanish!).

Like: "or is that the cerveza talking again?"

I'm glad that suits you! I'm a bit curious about the content of this potential novel.

I really can't wait to see more of Cortez's character, and here's hoping that someone else is a M/M option. Kaidan probably is my top preference. If there are no other options, I do really hope I like Cortez. I'm happy about BioWare's inclusion of M/M romances, despite not liking any of them so far. I wasn't terribly fond of Fenris or Zevran, and only liked Anders in Awakening (but mostly because he reminded me of Alistair then).

Maybe Cortez or someone else in ME3 will finally work out for me!

Really?? That's very cool. And Yes, cerveza is beer in Spanish.

I haven't read that much of his dialoges because I want to know him better in-game, but I like what I read enough to want to romance him in my first playthrough, no matter who's available. (I Still hope for m/m kaidan in my second one, though)

I doubt he will, but it would be great, though, if he told you "te quiero" in Spanish at least once. It'd be even more emotive for us Spanish speakers to hear that in our language. (We have english VA as well)^_^

Staying on the whole Spanish thing. Given that Freddie (Vega's VA) doesn't have an accent when he uses spanish (or even in regular convo) it seems kind of wierd. Or is that just me being nit-picky.

Maybe he'll fake it? I mean Zevran was voiced by a non Spanish-speaker and was suppose to have Spanish accent. I don't know where it was, though, since we have a pretty strong accent and his was rather soft.
In DA2, though, Feyriel's father was just perfect, remembered me of my old english teacher. Lol

IDK. I like him for his intelligence, masculinity (without being over-the-top dudebro "boobs boobs!!!"), open-mindness, the fact that he's unpretentious and for that boy-next-door quality.
And of course that he's hot and furry

Meaning in the English dialogue or the Spanish words that get thrown in? Because plently of people are fully bilingual/multilingual and don't have accents (or at least don't have strong accents) in more than one language, so that doesn't seem weird at all. But maybe you mean something else?

I like him because he's serious but not broody, he's trustful and open about his feelings but not whiny, he doesn't need to say: hey! I'm so strong and sexy you have to love me (as the females do) for me to notice him, he has good sense of loyalty and honor and can have an equal to equal relationship with parangon m!shep.

And as Isaac said he's furry!!:D

It just seems that since his last name is Vega, he would a. have some type of hispanic heritage (family) and b. have an accent slapped on there.

I also understand that there are people who can speak fluent spanish, but dont have accents. Although in my experience those are usually people who dont grow up in spanish speaking families so the accent doesnt transfer generations. But im just assuming that he does grow up in a spanish speaking family. Plus I've seen the video with Freddie VAing, and its pretty obvious there isn't an accent in basic conversation nor when he speaks actual spanish.

But again I may just be being nit-picky. Its not a bad thing, just something that came to mind after hearing Freddie VA.
