Maybe he was named in honour of Admiral Hackett or something.
I think that's just as arbitrary as saying it's a reference to the Adam/Steve thing.

I'm also quite fond of Steve. Is it short for "Esteban" and not "Stephen"? I might have a few nostalgic fits of laughter at Esteban, purely because of a squirrel I once named that, but I love the name Stephen.

Vega gives everyone nicknames, and calls Steve 'Esteban', so I'd tend to think it's actually Stephen.

I don't personally speak Spanish, so I could be wrong, but from what I've read 'Esteban' is the Spanish form of Stephen, so Mister Vega calls Steve that as a nick name.

From the one line of dialogue in the beta (the shuttle to Sur'Kesh) that I heard months ago, Cortez doesn't sound overtly South-American or Spanish. Though obviously that could've been placeholder audio.

@ElitePinecone, thanks! I hope it's Stephen, as I just really like that name.
@Stardusk78, I like Kaidan because he seems relatively down-to-earth. He's not a very complicated or dramatic person.
@Dirgegun, Esteban is the Spanish form of Stephen, that I know. I was wondering if that was really Cortez's name or not. (Fun side note, in French it's Etienne!)

That's what I was referring to, not the race (I am a quarter Greek, a quarter Iranian and half Spanish, so I enjoy the race mixing in ME) but his accent and the words he use when he speaks Spanish if he does speak more than two words, whatsoever.
I suppose I'm just impatient to know more of him, we'll see in the demo soon enough (not soon enough)![]()
edit: Yes Esteban is Spanish form of Steve. In spanish we say: "Adán y Esteban" lol

That does seem differentiated from what the females claim, the content of which could fill a novel. I am more on board with your take.

He does use a Spanish word now and then (at least I think it's Spanish!).
Like: "or is that the cerveza talking again?"

Staying on the whole Spanish thing. Given that Freddie (Vega's VA) doesn't have an accent when he uses spanish (or even in regular convo) it seems kind of wierd. Or is that just me being nit-picky.
IDK. I like him for his intelligence, masculinity (without being over-the-top dudebro "boobs boobs!!!"), open-mindness, the fact that he's unpretentious and for that boy-next-door quality.Stardusk78 wrote...
I am just curious. Do gay men like Kaidan for the exact same reasons straight women do? or are there differentiated reasons for it?

Meaning in the English dialogue or the Spanish words that get thrown in? Because plently of people are fully bilingual/multilingual and don't have accents (or at least don't have strong accents) in more than one language, so that doesn't seem weird at all. But maybe you mean something else?
