Not sure if anyone else had this confirmed here but I got the artbook today and Cortez and Samantha weren't in it. Not surprised given they're NPCs, but still.

Speaking as somebody who has his first gray hairs (OH. MY. GOD.) and has been under threat of receding hairline for years now (I know it wants to go, but it never seems to take off, at least not yet, knock on wood)... I hope you grow old alone.

Alone, or with guys whose only hair is on their back.

I am not going to go bald! I am not! :-)

Pssh. Don't hate. Besides there's women who love all kinds of men. One will (or does) love you too. ^_^

Plus your hair isn't my fault. If women can die their hair to hide the grey so can me. (though some greys tends to add to the sexiness to me) . Receding hairline is a no though.

Nope. I'll find the guy for me. :wub:Don't send bitterness you don't want to land on you. :wizard:

See due to being mean you're now going to go bald in the next few months. Watch. :P

Well, 1st thing I thought was "Sheploo's twin!" but it may be just because of lighting, I REALLY doubt they made them that similar

BW did a lot of things that I would doubt they'd do though. :crying:

Part me wants a gay LI that isn't conventionally pretty. Not all gay men are supermodels, you know. In fact, most of them aren't.

The real deciding factor for me will be the way he is written. Will he be a fully-fleshed out character or will he be like ME2 Kelly? The leak offered some info but there's no telling how much actually made it into the final product.

It's possible they weren't in as Cortez and Samantha may be late additions.

Yeah..but you know the devs just love screwing gay guys, so why should this installment be any different in that regard?

I'm also gonna be realistic and say Steve doesn't get a custom face or custom outfit and, furthermore, I'm also going to say Sam is almost certainly going to get a custom face (having seen her VA) and possibly an iconic look as well.

Also Bioware, please don't let our only Li have a full beard.

Oh, they do not.  And you're a bit late to the party on the beard comment, we've seen a picture (admittedly dark) and he doesn't have any facial hair.

True that not everyone is a model, but everyone in Mass Effect is so it would be pretty unfair if literally the only LI that is not beautiful is the gay guy. =/

This. Every LI (even Jack [heck Jack has the best looking face in the games]) is attractive. Hell every character just about on Shep's side is attractive looking.

...Yes including Jacob. When he's not talking.

But would you want it to be the first gay male romance?

What if the first (and possibly only) gay male LI in the Mass Effect trilogy was also the first (and possibly only) character to use an obese body model? Would you feel "not all gay men are models", or would you feel "figures they'd make him fat and bald"?

Sometimes I wish it would just make up its damn mind already, I really do.

I've been under threat of having more forehead than I grew up with for years now, but it never seems to happen (I'm sure I've lost some, but I still have a full head of hair).

Whatever. I'll shave it all off. Screw hair. I can live with only being 55% sexy. :-)

ROFL

and you guys, with the whole iconic look... Joker doesn't have one either.  the only unique thing about him is his face model.  so I woudln't worry too much about iconic looks, especialy for characters that are supposed to be regular alliance service people. (I highly doubt that Sam will get iconic look either, and Aller's look is actualy explained by her herself - it has to do with journalism and viewers)

Edit.. I also thought that Keiji was atractive, so...  my tastes... they are simple :P

This is the first and last gay romance we'll be getting in the MEverse (for Shepard anyway) so it's not like we can do anything about it now. :/  Besides, the fact of the matter is that he appears to be very normal, which is better than leaning on the conventional "pretty" stereotype given to gay men.

Right now all I can say is that I'm really not that bothered and/or surprised.

I have a hard time placing that voice with this face. I almost prefer the black-green-skin-orange-hair look from the leak. Doesn't seem to pull off the Shepard-do.

Obesity is extreme unhealthiness.
Being average looking is just...average. Neither supermodel nor fell off ugly tree. Just like most people (which, if we're talking about social issues, is not a bad way to go. Portraying a gay character as a "normal" everyday guy).

Actually when I first replied I had used the word "husky", but I don't know how widespread that is as a description of body type.

I also didn't want to give the image of love handles you can love instead of definite "chunk". So I changed it to "obese".

Basically, kind of a pot-belly slob model, not just a model who's not ripped like the rest of the characters in the world. Maybe that's the "'normal' everyday" you're thinking about, but I wanted to make sure everybody got a fair image for what I was trying to say.

If the only romance option you have is the only "average" LI in the game, are you thinking that it's progressive, or are you thinking that it's punitive?

I think Shepard pulls it off well. Steve, on the other hand.... Modding the **** out of him. Though I need more pics.

Edit: just remembered the modding capabilities aren't akin to DA2. Damn.

lol it's just waiting for you to accept it so it can change again. :P

LMAO it's not that bad. ;) Plus some find bald guys sexy. (Never got it myself but hey everyone has different tastes!).

@Solid: We probably won't be able to mod his face. It's ridculously hard to mod character's faces (that's not Shep) in ME2 - ME1 is it not?

It's not as easy as DAO and DA2. :(

I know. He reminded me a little of Jimmy from Smallville there. I liked Jimmy. :(

Looking at this realistically, it's more likely to be either an attempt at progression or neither of them. I really doubt that Bioware would purposefully make a gay love interest average or ugly to spite the fans.

I know there are some among the LGBT community who don't like that most gay male characters in movies/other entertainment (that don't use homosexuality as a punch line) all look like male models or otherwise beautiful. There's very little (positive) mainstream representation of gays who are on the average side ("normal," if you will) rather than distinctly and deliberately handsome.
So there's some precedent if they want to be more progressive.

I would be more upset if they gave Steve a generic character creator face. Giving him a unique body and/or face model at least means they put more effort and care into detail, rather than slapping on something made in the CC in 30 minutes and calling it a day.

Looking like a 70-year-old is never a good thing for someone who's supposed to be twenty-something (or 30?), hot or not.
