I haven't heard about the bad things yet... any way to avoid them without having to put up with her presence?

Really, guys and gals, some of us are starting to sound a bit ungrateful... Bioware has given us a well-developed, handsome, masculine, and exclusively s/s love interest, and we have people set to go into "rage mode" because we don't like his hair or his skin is too dark or because he may be the "only" one available to s/s? I'm not a Bioware apologists by any stretch--I was among the first to call them out for hypocrisy over the lack of m/m in ME1--but it seems to me we should be saying "thank you" and supporting the company. These are not "crumbs" that we should be content with, and the more we whine about how unsatisfied we are with what is, really, a very nice gift we are being given, the more disinclined Bioware will be to listen to us.
So thank you, Bioware, for everything you have done for us. Bioware and Rockstar are the two companies brave enough to include male s/s content and those of us saying that they love to screw over gay people are only doing us a disservice.
Bully had M/M options.I'm curious, when did Rockstar ever have male s/s content?

Oh no, I meant Bad Things Happen to Allers, not to Shep.
As far as I know there are no consequences for not accepting her, except the content you miss (some reports, etc).

I agree, at least they offer SOMETHING and it is not a one time deal. You should not forget aout Lionhead though, Fable III not only has gay marriage but adoption as well. I don't think we'll see anything that progressive from a US based company anytime soon.

Of course BW romances have much more content. But at the core, the concept fo romances in Fable/Skyrim and BioWare games is the same. LIs don't give a crap about player character's looks, morality, actions or gender/sexual orientation. You just give them few presents/pick few right lines and you access the romance. Romances are part of character customization, bonus content accessible for all player character. Except for sexual orientation in case of BioWare games of course. At least Lionhead and Bethesda were consistient with their approach. They didn't single-out gender/sexual orientation as a sole 'realistic' restriction from accessing romances. BioWare did that.ElitePinecone wrote...
I get slightly frustrated when people hold up Fable as a fantastic example of companies doing lgbt stuff.
Yes, it's awesome - but it's also about two lines of recorded dialogue and some programming tweaks. A 'marriage' with any one of a dozen cardboard-cutout characters who are pretty much indistiguishable with each other, an 'adoption' of a child that doesn't actually have any personality. It fits the genre of games Fable is trying to fill, but it's about as emotionally engaging as, well, a random NPC married to a player character.
Bioware's games might take twenty times the effort, but isn't it much more engaging if you're talking to someone with a backstory, motivations, goals and a personality instead of [random shop owner #45]?

Rockstar had a couple of gay characters in their GTA games.

Hooking up with other LIs or saying not nice things to a LI does that. Looks, moral actions & choices from elsewhere in the game don't influence that in a bit. Only Samara had a different reaction to a Renegade Shep. And she's just an easter-egg LI. Every other character doesn't care a bit if you've done the most horrible/questionable things.Collider wrote...
There are some things that either end or stop Bioware romances from happening. It just isn't complex.

ironically enough I wish they'd go further and make romances only available when you behave in a certain way, it would make the romances more real, but you know that the complain company would enter soon afer in the "I wanted to romance so and so, but had to say this and that, how dare you"
- it's what we planned for MEC though, let's hope it stays in there

DA:O: Most choices are taken into account with approval.
King Alistair dumps the warden if you didn't do his personal mission in a certain way.
ME2:
Jacob - Trying to play psychologist makes him dump you.
Miranda - Siding with Jack ends or prevents the romance.
Garrus - If you didn't recruit him in ME1, he isn't an option in ME2.
Jack - Siding with Miranda or doing the casual sex scene
Tali - Revealing the evidence or siding with Legion ends or prevents the romance.
Thane - Failing to find Kolyat prevents the romance.
All: Not doing their loyalty mission.
Gender is not the only restriction to accessing the romances, even for the M/F only options. Not all of it's a matter of just saying not nice things, either.
