Yes, there is a reasonable indication of Kaidan being available for gay romance because his voice actor said so back in June.

Seeing the way a lot of the people on BSN and from the wider community interpret statements by the developers, I really question whether he actually said anything of the sort.

I really do. :-(

1) I saw a Tumblr post someone made about Ash and Kaidan which described them as "outlook looks good for bi." Has there been any reasonable indication of that, or was that poster just indulging in wishful thinking due to gender-neutral dialogue of the script leaks? (I call it wishful thinking since, as we know from past experience, gender-neutral dialogue doesn't really mean anything in the long run)

If you ask Voice Actor, Kaidan also should be bi on first game too, right? Nearly everything needed was in game but cut out.Posted Image

Same applies for Ash and if what I remember is correct for Miranda. They prepared for both genders than ended up straight options.

Best thing about ME I want to see story's final more than romances. Romances are fun but I lived last two games without them (other than checking out what they like).

If they try to leave out S/S romances for DA then I will rage. Posted Image

Two sources said the same thing, and I asked both to write as truthful accounts on what he said as it was possible for them. So yeah, I doubt this is all just complete misinterpretation.

No. Raphael Sbarge never recorded any s/s dialogues for ME1, nor was told by BioWare he would be recording. BioWare briefly considered enabling s/s romance with Kaidan (and Ash) using copy+pasted dialogues from opposite-sex romance, and AFTER they were already done. Eventually, they decided that copy+pasted dialogues didn't fit in same-sex context and they didn't have time to write new ones along with creating new cutscenes for s/s romances so the idea was dropped.

In short: Raphael wouldn't say the same thing about ME1.

Thanks for the link!  Hmm...yeah, unfortunately, I'm not getting my hopes up at this. “You know! I think so! They mentioned it. I believe they’re still working on the writing" doesn't sound very solid to me.

I'm sorry, but that doesn't pass muster.

The recent past is rife with instances where you have both a developer quote (that you can read for yourself) and people relaying that quote to others. And I guarantee you more often than not I read the quote and then I read what other people have claimed was being said and I think "What the hell are you people talking about?"

Without a recording or even just a direct quote, I have to take it with a grain of salt (or two, or a whole box). I'm sure these people believe that's what he said, but I won't accept that their interpretation is accurate simply because I want it to be true.

I think Mike is too big a champion of equality to ever have to worry about that.

My entirely baseless impression was that Mike is primarily responsible for the romances in DA2 not being gender exclusive. Even if he wasn't the one to first propose it, my gut feeling is that he was the one to say "Yes, that's what we're doing, end of discussion".

Aw, don't harsh on it.

I hear what you're saying. And FWIW I hope you turn out to be right.

I'm just personally not entirely convinced by the evidence, sorry. But like I said, some days it seems like a "yes", and others a "no".

Today is a "no" day for me, is all. :-)

It's just a bit tiring when everytime it gets posted, people say both of these 2 unrelated adults may have basically imagined what Raphael said. Apart from their own interpretations what it meant, they also provided their as-close-as-possible paraphrasing of what Raphael exactly said. I asked them for it. And both accounts fit with each other. So I have little reason to believe they've completly misquoted him, which is why I post it when someone asks for evidence of Kaidan's gay romance in ME3

Putting on my sweeping generalisation hat, but I suspect that that, again, is a much smaller demographic. Because we're basically talking about "hetero male".
Don't get me wrong, and I'm seriously all for these options, I'm just not sure we can expect "fair" to be carrying a lot of weight when it comes to doling out resources.

Yeah, I see where you're coming from. And of course I'm aware of the "hetero male" demographic thing, every few pages some random straight male pops up to remind us we aren't as important as they are, just in case we forgot:lol:.  (Not talking about you, don't get me wrong)

Well
since Bioware has not said who is or is not "bi" they really are not playing with us. It is more of a case of... us playing with ourselves.

[smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/wondering.png[/smilie]

Ok:P, maybe it's not playing but "playing", I mean they lead us on. They could just say no, Kaidan is not bi or yes he is. Thus, we would be coping with it instead of speculating. There's gonna be whining ayways (m/m player's or homophobes's) there's no point in delaying it, right?

It does, but what follows is incredibly nauseating. In fact, the entire game is. God I love that feeling.

Edit: Cheered myself up saying it lol, just remembered the Jenga'd pic...damn my twisted sense of humour, it's damning me.

....What?

I always enjoy you're posts Isaac, you've been really informative. Then again I'd also rather be blissfully ignorant that Kaidan was always intended to be Bi and those scenes are more then multipurpose animations but Tension between him and my manShep.

Tension in this thread lately :crying:, you'd think it'd be better after getting a foot in the door.

This thread is almost always up and down. One day you guys will be like "Kaidan is probably bi!" Then other days you'd be like "Kaidan isn't bi!". I mean come on, his dialogue is pretty gender neutral and the voice actor himself said there would be a s/s romance with him! I know everyone is pretty jumpy over the topic, I'll stick with my gut. He's going to be a s/s romance.

(If I'm wrong. Well.. There's always Cortez :D)

And considering that Aelice, who had no "dog in this fight" when it came to s/s romances, came to the Kaidan thread just to report her experience meeting Mr. Sbarge, and was pretty clear about what she heard, I really doubt she was twisting his words or wanted to believe something that wasn't there.

For what it's worth, I'd guess that Raphael Sbarge voiced lines that led him to believe that s/s romance was in, but he doesn't have knowledge of how it's used in the final game.  I'm reminded of how Greg Ellis told some fans who asked on his Facebook that he was still voicing Anders in DA2...he may have done some voice acting for Anders, and then the devs decided to go in another direction, and he wasn't informed because it wasn't necessary.

Such a linkage? lol
Trying and failing, Kaidan isn't promiscuous.
I'm sure Kaidan won't mind being called Karen, he's used to people saying his name wrong now.

Don't let the FemSheps see that, they'll get mad.

I know it's just, the worst, I bit my tongue at first when only one person tried to pick a fight over something that could have simply been a joke and other took it as one, but when the same person who accused us of complaining when we were discussing the looks kaidan gives manshep and saying how it's not a big deal, my blood boiled. And more so when I saw everyone jumping on her bandwagon and claiming we don't deserve anything from Bioware? Like they deserve it so much more with that attitude...Not like there isn't 100's of the opposite post claiming ownership of a character or saying how wrong it'd be for him to be bi...just argh, sorry I needed to vent.

Don't think I'll pop back in there now.

*sigh*

Yeah the "deserve" bit makes me head tilt.

Aren't you the guys that go on about how you deserve for the VS to be a squaddie because of he/she not being in ME2 and Horizon? Along with a bunch of wailing and gnashing of teeth because of it?

Hi pot. Meet kettle. You should be good friends!

Thats not really the part of "deserve" that annoyed me, although the last bit still applies.

At least Ashley knows what's up as I recently discovered.

*Ashley, Kaidan and MShep on Noveria*
Ashley: Don't go licking any poles.

Whatever could she mean?

Somehow I missed this one too from Kaidan, consider how I nearly always have him with me in 1.

Mom was right, I should have brought a sweater.

It just made me go..."Aww Kaidan" *penguin hug for warmth*

I don't want to constantly pull out my "credentials" when it comes to the s/s issue, but I definitely want the Kaidan thread to be inclusive, and like I said, it does go both ways.  I have in the past, and will in the future, tell anyone who is being rude to m/m fans to quit it, but the thread goes really fast, and it takes everyone working together to make any thread interesting and worth the time to visit.  Drinking Shepard has "joked" about o/s relationships being gross or unwanted before in the thread, and while I'm not going to freak out about that, personally, I *know* that others certainly will be offended.

I've had people PM me and tell me that someone made them cry in a previous Kaidan thread, because certain people were anti-m/m romance and wanted any trace of it taken out of the thread.  If I can possibly help it, I will make the current thread a place where everyone feels welcome.  I'm not a mod, and I can't make people behave, but if I can help at all, I'm going to try.

@syllogi : Agreed hard.

No one on either side should be making comments like that on the board. It's fine when you're around a group that you KNOW (or at the least they're throwing around similar comments) can take the heat and acknowledge it as joking but otherwise...

oh there it is, me being called homophobe. because saying "I'm killing this character unless he's gay" is somehow ok? and

oh, he sucked but now that his textures look nice - gimme, even if i don't care for the character himself, but perfectly good character is bad and insult to people playing gay shep, because I personally don't like the way that character looks?

riiight.
