As for Diana, I wonder if she's a very meaningful romance or just a fling, anyway I'd easily trade Diana and Kelly versus Tali, but I can hardly complain at that point
Even worse, I can't help but being hopeful about that I'll only give up when faced with it in the game

I see it more like : S/S romances got cut from ME 2 because Fox News(and many other channels around the world) over hyped and sh*tted ME 1 as "Game Porn".

So I'd be surprised if Walmart was the only firm come up with similar attitude.

Also can't help but think if "cencorship" played any role in that decision.

In short, in my opinion ME 1 became a scapegoat and both Bioware and players suffered because of it.

It's also possible that they just hit a randomize button in the CC until "eh, good enough." Until proven wrong though, I like to believe it is the former, not the latter, and look forward to a well-written, fleshed out Cortez.

In defence of the first interpretation, people (and I'm generalising) did complain about, say, Zevran/Anders/Fenris being too 'pretty'. 

Cortez is definitely a more grounded character - ironically for a pilot - and it's possible the art team wanted to reflect this in a more mature, settled appearance. No more long hair or exotic looks. 

Or, they mashed the character creator. 

Since nobody will ever give us an explanation, and there'll never be a behind-the-scenes video about how they designed Cortez's appearance (but oh, remember the one about Ashley a few months ago, with her armour update?), we'll probably never know.

I can see Wal-Mart as a big factor, but I wouldn't say at this point that it could have been the only reason they excluded it from the game (maybe it was the reason they didn't even do it in the first place, but I don't believe they would have taken it all out just because of this).

But content has needed to be censored before to retail at Wal-Mart. I can remember in the 90s that you never wanted to buy CDs there because the packaging was censored if they didn't approve. I don't know if that's still the case, but when was the last time anybody bought a CD? Probably they can't afford to be so puritanical anymore.

Truth be told, I'm... a bit annoyed at what they make Diana do in-game. The embedded journalist role is fascinating, but she's lumped with the 'seduce Shepard' thing. If I'm reading the lines correctly, it's also presented as a quasi-affair if you already have an LI.

I'm not one of those people and unless they're gonna prove me wrong with Sam, Bioware has never let any female love interest look like a generic NPC before, because she's just a regular gal who happens to be interested in the player character.

Maybe at least some of the people complaining about m/m Li being too attractive just thought them attractive too, but couldn't handle it because to even have your virtual character in an RPG try out the option would somehow damage their precious masculinity and sexual orientation.
Again I'm generalising here too but I get the distinct feeling that at least for some of those people this might just have been the real issue.

I've been thinking about Cortez's appearance, and why he's so "generic" looking. There's so little representation of gays in any mainstream media, and one of the many complaints regarding the ones that are present is that all too often they're portrayed as 'sissy men' or vain and shallow. True, but considering Cortez is apparently a fully fleshed out romance according to things I've read from the leak, a properly designed character to go along with it would have been nice.  I'm fine with the way he looks, I just don't like the fact that he looks like 1000 other generic NPC's in the game.  It makes it look like there was a lack of thought towards the character.

I watch a lot of English shows these days and very few don't have gay characters so I sometimes forget about the lack of gays in U.S shows 'cause I don't watch many.  I did make the mistake of watching the U.S version of Shameless, whoever did that to Mickey should be shot

Based on what? How do you derive this 'distinct feeling'? How could you possibly know the secret ulterior motives of people? 

People complained that the 'archetype' of an m/m LI in Bioware games was too pretty, too slender, too feminine or too promiscuously typical of stupid stereotypes. 

What's to say the direction for the art team wasn't "make Steve as combat-hardened as Shepard, as weary, an ordinary man who has married and settled down". The anti-Zevran. 

I don't like the end result but I *can* see why they did it.

I said Fox News because it usually called like that around the net. I am not from USA and that "Porn Game" term derived from our news. In short somehow half of the opinions, unsurprisingly negative ones, became more public around the world.

They look like everyday people. DA LI were... creepy in many ways (if you take DA 2 Zevran instead of orginal)

It's also possible the engine differences mean ME's characters generally look better.

DAO's character models were creaking, considering it had been in development for so long, and I wasn't really a fan of some of the graphical improvements in the sequel. Fenris especially looked... out of the universe. 

But I think there was a strong negative reaction to Zevran being a typically flamboyant bisexual elf sex-worker, with no moral scruples, a talent for assassination and a fondness for evil or criminal stuff. People didn't like that he was the *sole* m/m option. 

Like I said, Cortez is pretty much the anti-Zevran.

But, don't BioWare know that's what sells games?  Just get the game on one do-gooder news program and you can add a couple of million sales to the list.  It's been happening since Night Trap was released on the Mega-CD.

I hate Anders from the moment he showed up in the Awakenings. His stupid joke about a dying templar made me hate him from bunch of pixels like it is a real person. Imagine my dissappiontment when they shove him to my face in DA.
