This makes me wonder, how cheesy/sweet is too cheesy/sweet when it comes to s/s romance storylines in the game? I personally want more "heartfelt" interaction in the romance scenes in general. ManShep especially seems like a robot sometimes. Let's see some acting!
I agree...but I'm a hopeless romantic and all of that. They should add a 'cheese' response option to the wheel during love scenes, color coded yellowish orange or something.

He was a bit better with emoting in ME2, and then especially awesome in LotSB. I know Mark Meer is capable of emoting, so I'm thinking it was a directoral issue more than anything. Can't wait to hear him fully improved in ME3.

Would it then be a cheese wheel?

Do my fellow ME fans want such characters to come with an explanation for their "mysterious" openness to homosexual relationships, or do we just accept the fact that Bioware suddenly had a change of heart on the third game just go with it (IF we want to)?
Maybe the Quarians have a social taboo against same gender romances, so Tali never was able to work up the nerve to pursue a same sex relationship with female Shepard until now? Or perhaps Kaidan had a religious upbringing and has always avoided the "forbidden" relationships until he met male Shepard?
Perhaps a small thing, but I don't think they need to make a big deal out of it, as in, bringing it up in every conversation with the character.
To be honest, with most LIs, you don't even know what their orientation is or could possibly be unless you do the o/s romance...as you play FemShep, for example, you wouldn't know that Tali is interested in men. Most of these sexuality arguements are therefore from a meta-knowledge perspective and thus there wouldn't need to be an in-universe explanation for why Tali is now into FemShep. If you need an out of universe/game design explanation...well, then I guess it's as simple as BW wanted to open them up for s/s romance, possibly due to popularity with the fans or something.

If a thread against S/S content does get created, let's just ignore it. We're no better than them if we derail their thread into petty bickering. I'm sure they'll do a fine job making fools of themselves without us.

I hope the trolls don't get your forum shut down. I was worried about my own take on the subject being shut down, but it hasn't, though I don't get posts anymore.
One thing I do wonder about is how Bioware will handle bisexuality in previous established LI. There was dialog with both Tali and Kaidan that seemed to indicate that the thought of a same sex relationship had crossed their minds (though the fact taht Tali is a whole other species should probably raise more eyebrows than her gender), but as we all know the option was never given to the player.
Do my fellow ME fans want such characters to come with an explanation for their "mysterious" openness to homosexual relationships, or do we just accept the fact that Bioware suddenly had a change of heart on the third game just go with it (IF we want to)?

Regardless of how it's handled, I hope Bioware doesn't continue to cut short Shepard's relationships with his/her crew just because s/he isn't romancing them, and I do want at least one "Aveline-style" relationship option where you can pursue a relationship but s/he turns Shepard down and/or pursues someone else.
I definitely want more "friend zone" stuff for Shepard and all the other characters, that's for sure. I want that more than ANY romance stuff.
I will leave it up to the writers to create the background and story implementation if (and this is a very big if) existing characters are opened up as bisexual LIs. Everything we've heard so far makes me think it's going to be new characters, but I think the writers could pull of existing characters open to bisexual lovin'. I don't think every character being bisexual is either plausible or likely though, so anyone who has that worry is probably worrying needlessly.

In the past, it's obviously been difficult for some (myself included) to resist engaging the particularly hateful and negative posters who derailed otherwise productive discussion in our threads. However, I have no interest in seeking them out. If they want to post a thread about how much they disapprove, I think they can go nuts. I can promise that I won't be posting in it.
Besides - it's in there. The chances of it not making it are vanishingly small.

I agree. They don't need our help. They will show BioWare exactly what kind of people they are with their actions, and changing their minds isn't likely.

One scene in particular is when Aria says her one rule is "Don't **** with Aria!" and Shepard's tough remark is that s/he has a similar rule. Hale made the remark sound the the prelude to a verbal beat-down that never came, making her seem weak when the Batarian threatened to throw her out the airlock. When Meer said it, it had an air of "Yeah, whatever, Aria," and it made the Batarian's threat sound like wasted gas.
And I'm still convinced that Hale's "I'm in heat" voice was the reason Jacob went on to be one of the most put despised members of Shepard's squad.
Still, with so many personal scenes in ME2, Meer's just-business Shepard voice did suffer while Hale was allowed to shine. And the facial animations of male Shepard just makes him look CREEPY in close ups with "sensitive" lines. *shudder*
Part of me worries about the male gay Shepard is going to fair if Bioware doesn't write the scenes to fit Meer's Shepard and the animation people don't fix male Shepard's close-up creepiness.

anyway, despite being happy regardless of who is the bi LI for manshep, i'll state, yet again, for the record that i'd like it to be kaidan. i made a rather lengthy post in the old fftl thread about how i would love to see the character development work for such an option, and i won't repeat it all here (i've turned over a new leaf regarding brevity), but suffice to say i'd be very happy to see that happen.

I agree with this comment! Let's just stay out of any anti-S/S thread and hope that they do the same and stay out of our pro-S/S thread. I mean, I'm not a fan of Miranda, so I simply stay out of her fan-thread. It's not that hard! Why go and ruin someone else's party?
Back on the topic... I really, really hope that gay manShep gets some sort of line to indicate that he likes men, if only because my gayShep has been silent about his sexual preference since ME1. I think that, at most, what I'll get James Vega or Kaidan saying, "Does it bother you that I like men?" and Shepard can reply, "No, it doesn't bother me." but at least that'll be something. I just really need manShep and his lover, no matter who it turns out to be, to recognize and acknowlege that they are in a same-sex relationship. I don't care how they do it, but if manShep's interactions with his gay lover are completely gender-neutral the entire time, I will be very disappointed.

Just wanted to say that I think it's sad that we won't have scenes like that one in the citadel view in ME1, which was charming and funny, because of this "player initiated romance" business, just because some people are so scared of I don't know what.
