No. Majority of gay guys want him for s/s LI.

most of the fan art - VAST majority is done by female Yaoi fans. you do not speak for majority of gay gays.  while there are some who want Kaidan specificaly, plenty either have their own favorites, or would be happy with any option.

Kaidan has a 3 years headstart on any other male LI, he was the only male option in ME1, while f/f fans could chose between Liara and Ashley and out of 2 human male LI's he seems to be a more appealing option, which is a pity, as Jacob is a great character and a fine looking man

Speaking as a straight guy I almost always Virmire'd Kaidan, but not always. It was more to do with him being the VA of Carth Onasi then anything though. I don't think most guys killed because they thought he was bi or was going to hit on them in the future.

I voted for Kaidan as the s/s option because he was the popular choice, not because I nuked him and didn't have to worry about him hitting on me. I don't think I got a gay vibe from Kaidan, but I wasn't too interested in talking to him since in a number of my games I knew he was just going to die in a horrible explosion. Kaidan was mostly killed by me because he was voiced by Carth and partly because I was planning on sleeping with Ashley.

Poor Kaidan, you never stood a chance in my game.

of course I do, Ryz. you being one of them. and considering that I've seen Thane, Jacob and even Garrus m/m fan art/ videos - they do have their own fans (and that's just current LI's - I would personaly would love to see Joker as bi LI). all I'm saying is that among same sex romance fans for Kaidan specifically - a lot of them are female rather then male.

And you do? I would risk and say I know what gay guys want better than you do, I am one. Go actually surf some gay forums/websites and read Mass Effect topics there and see how overwhemingly more popular Kaidan is for s/s option than the male LIs form ME2.

It's less than 2.5 years and how is that an argument here anyway? Who cares if he had a headstart? Doesn't change the fact he's the most demanded option for s/s romance one way or another by gay guys. And Jacob is the least popular LI among both straght girls and guys who play FemSheps so why exactly would you expect gay part of the population to have completly different view on him than everyone else? If there was a better option gay guys would jump on it, just as Liara lost her most popular LI status after Tali became LI, straight guys saw her as better option and it didn't matter Liara had a headstart.

Well, I personally think it's perfectly okay for straight people to have preferences regarding which characters are available for same-sex romance. I think it's important to recognize that these options aren't solely for gay people, they're for everyone who wants to play them, so we shouldn't say that the desires of non-gay players are somehow less important than the desires of gay players. I'm not sure it that's what's been implied, but in case it is, I wanted to address it. I'm not saying that any players' desires should be discounted, only that they should all be considered equally valid. I don't think it's a strictly "numbers" thing though, I think there are a lot of factors BioWare has to consider when making the decisions about each character and their suitability for s/s inclusion. Many of our favorites might be out of the running for reasons that have nothing to do with their suitability for s/s romance. We don't know what story role Miranda and Jacob will play in ME3, after all, because BioWare is being very tight-lipped about them and about the Illusive Man.

Personally I'd be happy with Kaidan, Jacob (he IS a fine looking man), Joker or a new human male, but I know others prefer male aliens. I'm not a gay man though, and I'm not a yaoi (sp?) fangirl either. I just like playing all kinds of Shepards. But I hope my opinion counts just as much as anyone else who's looking forward to ME3's inclusion of m/m romance content.

In the f/f realm I would prefer Miranda for story reasons, but any human female would be okay with me, since we already have a female alien f/f option. I know lots of players want f/f Tali though, and I certainly wouldn't begrudge them their happiness if she were included in ME3, though I wouldn't select her as my first choice.

The irony is if Garrus was a human I'm pretty sure most yaoi fangirls would see him as afar better option than Kaidan by a landslide. Garrus is the wide eyed follower who follows his dashing commander around and holds his word above all else. Alas. If only Garrus was human.

For me nothing would change. Kaidan's personality, voice (acting) would still be more appealing to me. Anyway, this is discussion that has zero basis in reality as Garrus won't be turned into a human anyway lol

Indeed if only the gay opinions were considered valid we'd be up Fudge creek without a popsicle stick!  While we will never get hard numbers hints from the devs are that in game s/s romances are used much more extensively than appearances would  indicate and worth the additional investment of zots.  Again nothing that is a surprise to me personally.

I'm must be in the minority then, I don't think Kaidan's attractive at all. He's too sweet and soft for me, and I'm really tired of the "sweet guy" that Bioware pastes in every game. Garrus, with his "I don't give a f$%^" attitude, I like, even though he's an alien.

@arne1234, she certainly doesn't seem to be 100% straight, even if she prefers men. But if she is bi, then Bioware would need to explain the brush-off she gives femShep when she's so hot for maleShep. Maybe she was still grieving over her deceased boyfriend and saw a little of him in maleShep, and that's why she was willing to go for him and not femShep. I don't know.

What? Ash is a male Shep only LI.

What I guess jeweledleah means that f/f fans could chose between Liara and Ashley in regard to who they devote fan attention to, and who they could hope would be a bi LI in future (Tali was not an LI then, and appeared to be off the table because of the suit). Whereas for m/m, the only possible future m/m was Kaidan (again, Garrus, and especially Wrex are unlikely options). So Kaidan would end up with lots more m/m fans wanting him as a bi LI in future, while f/f fans would be split between those who want Ash as a bi LI in future, and those who are happy with Liara.

I know there's apparently been ALOT of poll's on which characters people would like to see turn bi and/or available for s/s Li.

Not to slam the poll makers at all but I wish there was a sticky in this forum with a "semi official" poll that would be persistent. Would be nice to have something like maybe a 1.000 votes.

"Sweet guy"?  Kaidan is not sweet.  He is soft spoken and self-controlled, but don't forget when he lost his temper as a kid he used his biotic powers and snapped his Turian instructor's neck.  He has good reason to keep himself reigned in.

Compared to some of the others, he probably is (probably as a result of what happened with the turian). I think somewhere in ME1 he says that he's spent a long time holding back his biotics so as not to hurt anyone, but in light of the threat from Saren/Sovereign, will no longer hold back. And he was always the one who wanted to help people or approach things with fairness and reason. A lot of the others tend to have more aggressive/ruthless/pragmatic attitudes.
