That's pansexuality, yes.

Labeling it is unimportant. It's about saying it doesn't make sense for them to want to romance a gay guy. Their preferences are different to yours and they are perfectly valid. Isn't that what this thread is all about?
Accepting and respecting others' choices.

umm... but when the same reasoning was given by people trying to explain why they didn't want previously m/f LI's only to be availabel for s/s - they were terribly wrong and shallow etc etc?

I'm sorry, if sexuality is important, its important no matter which sexuality it is.  and if its secondary to the character themselves, then the boundary is purely personal.  and you are perfectly entiteled to your personal boundaries.  and hopefuly understand better the personalboundaries of others, even if they run oposite to yours.

someone a while ago said, why they wanted m/m romance despite being a straight female. they relate to playing male character better.  they don't like playing female characters. but they still like guys,  so if they want to romance someone, they want to romance a guy.

this same reasoning works in another direction.  someone doesn't like playing a male character, but they relaly REALLY like a particular romance that's not normaly available to them.  sometimes it means modding Ashley, or Miranda, or Jack, or Tali to like femshep.  and sometimes?  it can mean modding Steve.

personaly, I don't share this, OR like this, so i plan on romancing Steve with a maleShepard, because anything esle feels like it doesn't fit.  but I understand, beleive me I understand why others might not feel the same way.  i don't have to like it and neither to you. but try to understand it.

*raises hand*

Plus there's the chance that they might just like Steve's personality more than Jacob, Thane, Kaidan, and whoever. It's not about "turning a gay guy straight" as much as "romancing the character I prefer."

This thread is about acceptance of same-sex romances, not their erasure.

But if others want to erase homosexuality from their games, then I guess it's their prerogative.    But I will not be forced to agree with them ever, or accept it.

Nor will I ever deign to read their so-called fantasies.

It seems you are talking about two issues:

1)  Lack of representation of LGBT characters in games.

2)  Fans changing characters to suit their fanfic/fantasy needs.

I want 1 to get better, but 2 will happen no matter what the status is on LGBT representation and seems to be a separate issue.

I anticipate fans clamoring around said balloons, fighting one another for the game. It will be a massacre. Delicious.

Thanks, I guess. But I'm willing to bet the only reason you think higher of me now is because we agree on this one issue. I can bet that will change once we disagree because you are still guilty of acting like different people are inferior or undeserving because they have different opinions. That hasn't changed. I'm not attacking you and I'm not holding a grudge against you, I just don't need your approval, or anyone's for that matter. No one does. And if that was never your viewpoint, then I'm sorry but it's the way you come across to me. And it's something I'm against.

That's right. This thread is about acceptance. We can't demand acceptance and not give it in return. You are making this out to be something it isn't. Nobody's "erasing gays" for the purpose of erasing them.
It's fangirls indulging their fantasies. You can argue that other people's fantasies are wrong, but it just makes you a hypocrite. If that's what you want to be, then I guess there is no point in discussing this.

no.  the reason I think higher of you is because you are fair, not because we agree on a single point. its up to you whether you accept my apology or dismiss it.  as an objectivist, I expect nothing more or nothing less.

Okay, now I feel better.

I'm starting to feel sorry for the m/m Vega fans. When s/s LIs were announced for ME3, most people, me included, assumed that Vega was going to be THE "s/s" guy and the mystery female was going to be THE "s/s" gal because the ME team didn't seem to share the DA's desire to make all the LIs "hero-sexual." Now, thanks to the leak, it seems like Vega may be THE "straight" guy. And not only that, but Bioware seems to want to make him a borderline womanizer, probably to overcome the assumptions by s/s critics and s/s supportes that he MUST be a s/s LI and make it clear that he's "safe" for dudebros.

Meanwhile, the Vega thread, which is one of the more fun and lighthearted threads on the BSN, HAS to be one of the most girly/gay threads ever. I wonder if that will make Bioware regret their decision IF they make Vega o/s only.

Also, I find it interesting that it LOOKS like there will be no "straight" female LIs in ME3. Is that Bioware catering to male gamers who like HAWT lesbian action or an admission that female gamers aren't as insecure about teaming up with gay/bi characters of the same gender?

The first person who finds one runs immediately home to play it. After an hour or so, he creates a thread on the BSN:

"OMG! KAIDEN IS GHEY! NOW HE CANT BE MY BRO! MY IMMERSIONS! AAAAAAA!"

Ugh Solid, when someone admits to a mistake and gives a sincere apology to you, you accept it. What you don't do is act like a judgemental, cynical, high and mighty know-it-all. She said she was sorry, and what she gets for that is you claiming to know her motivation, stating it falls short, finding it necessary to rub it in that she's guilty and to top it off, saying she's just going to continue acting the same way. Sounds like you *are* attacking her, pal. And if you want to have a go at me now for butting in, go ahead.

@abispa I have to disagree. I think, given the complexity of the writing process if you want your stuff to be good, Vega's character was already laid out completely a long time ago. Whatever BSN regulars may say they want, however loudly, is irrelevant due to the fact that someone like my Vega is too critical to the overall story arc. I do sincerely hope that Vega is bi, but I would be willing to sacrifice what I want for the good of the story and a strong character. Besides I can always admire from afar.

Oh, I did not mean to suggest that Vega's preference was a last minute decision. I was talking about perceptions of Vega, and if BioWare is guilty of anything, it is in their secrecy in LI sexuality, even to the point of writing a script that is incredibly vague at best.

What I DO wonder is if the oogling of females was added to Vega's character to make him look as overtly straight as possible. That and all the promos emphasizing how much of a macho tough guy he is. But then it is always difficult to judge how much influence the game writers have on marketing. It could just be that marketing saw this huge, gun weilding hulk of a character and automatically decided to focus on that.

And I have always supported the ME team writing the character they want, even if it meant NO s/s LIs. It was really THEIR admission that they make romances based on FAN SERVICE (Tali and Garrus), even though Hudson originally wanted NO LIs at all, that made me support the call for s/s romances being added.
