My main character, Commander Bunny Buns Shepard, resplendent in hot pink armor, has always been gay, thank you very much.

I have no issue with same-sex relationships. In fact I think in the cases of RPG's that focus quite strongly on relationships they should be there. The only thing I am worried about is generally speaking Shepard has been considered straight for the past two games, I suppose this may not hold true for female Shepard if she romanced Liara as Liara does look like a woman, but, back to my point. If Shepard has been considered straight in previous titles it would feel kinda odd if Shepard doesn't comment on his/her interest in the same-sex. So, yes I think it is good that same-sex relationships have been introduced (although my Shep won't be going for one, he already has enough trouble trying to choose Miranda or Ashley) I think seeing as they haven't been mentioned before they should comment on them, to make it feel more real to the players. Well that is my thoughts anyway.

I will agree with you that BioWare SHOULD have given the option to make Shepard OVERTLY gay/bi since day one, just as they SHOULD have given Ryzaki and SolidBeast the option to [w]itch-slap the horney blue chicks that keep touching him, just as he can the female reporter.

"Shepard" is different for every person who plays the game, so this comment is sort of pointless. Shepard has been considered straight to you, in your game, yeah. But to others, maybe he/she hasn't. Thats the point of having a customizeable character. You make them your own.

True, but seeing as in the previous games same-sex was not an option many people may have chosen to make a straight Shepard, for instane if I wanted to make my previous straight Shepard actually bi, I would like it to be done well enough it would be believable, that was what my comment was about, cause I am sure there were some people who have made a straight Shepard across the two games and in the third would like to make their Shepard bi, if it isn't handled believably then it will lose some of its immersion

Having said that I think Shepard as a character is confident enough that it wouldn't make them question themselves too much.

Shepard: "I'm gay or bisexual?"
Scratches head
Shepard: "Cool.... oh GARRUS!?"
No one on the Normandy will be safe from My Shepard's libido!!! :o
Yeah my Renegade Shep is a bit of a ****... but aren't they all?

As far as my Shep's concerned his sexuality isn't anyone's business.

Least of all people he's not trying to get into a relationship with.

This.

I know this might be a very foreign concept to some people (even to some people in the LGBT community) but...not everyone goes around wearing it on an armband. For some people, such as myself, it doesn't get discussed (or even "revealed") unless brought up. In which case, in Mass Effect anyway, it never has.

Just as I think is should have been allowed for Shepard to be OVERTLY gay/bi before, I also believe there should have been an option to be "all business" and not be trapped into "subtly" being turned on by all the advances by blue chicks. No one should assume Shepard is a eunuch just because he isn't banging a member of his crew, ESPECIALLY his subordinates.

If it helps, I'm straight and I still wanted to slap the asari consort when she started dripping all over me.  :D  Though, to be fair, maybe it doesn't count as an all-uniting factor since I'm female...

Hey Ryzaki, haven't seen you in a while.
I'm debating whether or not to post Mass Effect 3 spoilers like I did with Dragon Age 2.
Don't really want another ban...

GalacticTHOR was talking about male Shepard, so I was only responding to his comments about that gender.

I don't mind having a consort rubbing all over my character so long as I'm given a choice on how to respond, from favorable to nice to hostile. The same would go for any agressive male characters who may make a move on Shepard.

What male characters making a move on Shepard? The most there's ever been are men like Harkin drooling over femShep like he would any female, or the merc recruiter on Omega telling her she wants the dancer auditions next door. Never been any man with the ghey flirting with Shepard. Meanwhile, I'm a nice guy, help Parasini arrest the corrupt businessman and don't kill Shiala while I'm saving Feros and help out someone who has good standing on the Citadel, and thus is good PR to be nice to her, and these women practically throw themselves at my male Shepards, practically inviting them back to their places.

Of course, if you're saying that there are going to be men flirting with male Shepards because of them being a nice person, I'm not against it.

(Seriously, it does kind of bug me that all these women have the option/ability to flirt with male Shepards while not doing it for female Shepards or no way to tell them 'thanks but no thanks,' not to mention how the facial animations seem to make Shepard look somewhat interested when I'm playing him as NOT...)

There's no point in either of the first two games where Shepard has to say he's explicitly straight. It doesn't come up; he doesn't mention it. The tendency to assume this means he's straight is a result of heteronormativity, i.e. the belief that someone is straight until proven gay. That's a personal and cultural bias, though, and in no way reflective of Shepard's actual sexuality. Plenty of people, myself included, have played celibate Shepards because they head-canoned that he was gay. The games still make sense, no logic is being violated.

Bottom line: you don't have to announce you're gay all the time to actually be gay.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

Exactly. All of my Sheps (except for one) are either bisexual, pansexual/queer or lesbian. We all have our own headcanon surrounding our Sheps. Simple as that . There is no need to be worried. Plus if Miranda or Ash become an LI for FemShep, I'll have my own headcanon regarding that so I don't need them to explain why they are interested or why my FemShep is interested. I would think by 2187 (?) people could just be themselves without feeling the need to explain s/s attraction and relationships. And as someone else mentioned, my Sheps don't need to announce their sexuality. They are completely secure in their identites - every facet of their personality, not just sexuality. Posted Image

I'm friends with guys who forget in between a week or two. Don't really take it personally - I'm rather relieved that they aren't interested in my sex life...or lack thereof. I imagine people "forget" because you don't fit the sterotype and you don't remind people of it every other second. You don't make a big deal of it and so they feel they don't have to make a big deal about either.

she got mad at me about how I should have told her I was gay despite the fact i pretty much hung onto my bf at the time(kissing hugging ect ect) even when she was around

also she was my best friend as well or so i thought theres no excuse for forgetting(there are other issues id rather not go into but lets just say she was a two faced vapid cow)

In other news, Jennifer Hepler's, the one behind DA2 Ander and Seb, twitter is being spammed with hate-tweets calling her fat and talentless. I know at least someone in the TIM thread is having a riot about it.
