I'm somewhat skeptical that the success of Mass Effect 3 under whatever definition you define "success" as depends on them not telling people who the s/s romances are. It's a minor detail in the grand scheme of things, no bigger than telling people what squad members will be returning, which is something we've already been informed of.

I don't exactly see it flunking on sales or having my personal experience of the story mortally wounded by knowing in advance whether my femshep is going to be able to hook up with Ashley or not.

So far what we've seen has lined up with the script.
And even if it didn't, even if just 30% of the story stuff was true, holding out on something this non-spoilery, especially after this rollercoaster we've been through in the past few days is like telling me I'm an idiot. I can't appreciate that.

All that was said when he was banned was that he was banned because he was insinuating that he had a copy of the game before release, which is illegal, lol.  They said nothing about his accuracy.

Oh his information about DA2 was 100% accurate, he even had a live stream going where he played the game days before the launch. Which makes it even more odd that he'd troll now, but stranger things have happened.

I think it's important to remember that Chris has gone on record several times in the past saying that he doesn't like romances...and having to moderate the Bioware forums and deal with rabid shippers every day might not help with that.  

I'm not saying he's "trolling" or misleading people (although that is a possibility), but he may just want everyone to be quiet about this issue for as long as possible, before verifiable leaks occur.

Awww, they feel sorry that we have been trolled. That's awesome, because telling me the troll was banned really helps. It's all about the troll, after all. Totally not about the irrelevant-in-the-grand-scheme-of-things question that we have actually been dying to know this whole time and that has been ignored for some mind-boggling reason.

A verifiable leak will occur in 11 days max lol. It ain't like it was back in 2011 when it was really long till ME3 release. Starting next week, the press itself may leak it since they're all be getting their copies

Hey, they didn't complain about Dragon Age.  And ME2 had f/f content but they did not make a fuss.

There are a couple things pertinent to the conversation that I'd like to offer (and for the record I am neither agreeing or disagreeing) but I think they matter.

1.  Fantasy, particulary high fantasy settings are generally considered nerd territory and is not so much an area that many would care about having s/s romance.  It would be considered a "niche" market in some ways.  With Mass Effect, you have a quasi-miliatary science fiction backdrop that vaguely resembles our world so I think the implications of s/s characters have more political implications.  In general people tend to think Call of Duty, Halo, Modern Warfare (essentially shooters) when they think of video games.

2.  The female relationship (between Kelly and Shepard) while awesome , was really very mild.  There was no cutscene, no "naked bodies" of the sort unlike with Liara in ME.

3.  Most importantly, the political climate in the US differed somewhat in that when ME2 came out in 2010, the US was still dealing with recession (and the fallout from the bail out crisises) and also during the time of a democratic majority.  Conservative news media had a completely different agenda and were more concerned with trying to bring down the current administration.  In 2007 the still (but steadily declining) Bush era was in effect and most people were not paying attention to the upcoming election year.

Now what this means for this 2012 release, I don't know.  There's an election year, so ME3 might slip under the radar, but still certainly could get scapegoated.  Again, not arguing or coming up on either side, just offering some commentary and thoughts.

Klace was banned for a day before DA2 came out because he was revealing BIG spoilers and posting links to his livestream.  At that time, David Gaider posted that he was the one who banned him, and he did it because he preferred that players experience the game for themselves before reacting (lots of people had opinions about what Anders did, for instance).

Yeah it's kind of meh that we can't get this spoiled meanwhile Javik's been spoiled, half the damn plot's been spoiled in the artbook itself and the leaked script.

Just feels silly. It's not that significant to need all this hush hush.

Reading the CP post makes me feel that he was not trying to make us s/s supporters feel better about being trolled but that he was trying to keep the s/s critics who lurk here from going into a meltdown and starting dozens of new "fanservice/retcon/gay-agenda" threads on the BSN. Lord knows CP and Woo are going to be busy once the game hits and the s/s options are officially revealed.

They've had their chances to stop purchasing BioWare games since the first m/m option was included.
It has been known for a long time that ME3 would have male same-sex romance. The press already covered it. If BioWare was afraid of those gamers, they wouldn't have added m/m romance in at all.

You would be surpised ... Again, might be my somewhat skewed experience, but still.
Besides, even if some of them who don't 'like' s/s options in their games still might purchase them if these options are not announced or hushed or downplayed. M.
