I have been completely hooked with Liara from the start. I'll probably be happy when the s/s LI's are announced but my femShep and Liara will always come first. For some reason, even the modded stuff, i can't really visualize mShep, with mark meer's voice, in a gay relationship because it's not really emotional enough. He's too "boring" and mellow. I honestly couldn't care less if existing characters turn gay because it's just another side of their character. In my playthroughs I never once asked or heard any of them reveal their sexual orientations or even hit on me. I honestly wouldn't even think anything of one of the returning crew being gay. I don't see what the uproar is about.

I don't see why the forum needs another threadnought about this subject either.

On Topic: In what ways would your Shepard fit with thier S/S partner?

Mmmm.... the gayShep I'v ebeen saving for Kaidan since ME1 has spiraled into Renegade as of late.... Y'know, pushing mercs out of windows and generally acting agressive towards everyone, and I don't think that Kaidan would be too happy about that.... but at the end of the day, my gayShep does the "Paragon" thing and helps people, even if he's developed a bad attitude. So hopefully Kaidan will see through it and coax a bit more kindness out of my gayShep....

But if Kaidan is still restricted to females in ME3, I hope it's James Vega who sees the hero beneath my "Paragade" gayShep. If Vega is a ruthless character, than I'm sure he and my gayShep will enjoy pushing mercs out windows for the rest of their merry days. But if Vega is a Paragon like Kaidan, I'm hoping to bring my gayShep back around to the nice guy I know he can be.

I'll resist the temptation to vivaciously argue EVERY point you made there. Instead, I'm just going to sigh and walk away. Each to their own.

This is a problem of voice acting and not narrative.

I'm confident they can make it work. Meer has a huge range of voice acting talent.

Did you see manShep interact with that child in the E3 footage? The voice acting was amazing. I have high hopes for manShep in ME3, and high hopes for the sweet-nothings between him and his gay lover. <3

I'll try and refrain, keep my words civil so that the modding community doesn't eat me alive but outside of this thread I think I'm starting to completely despise BW's community. :| It's not just because I'm on the same side as you guys, but the overwhelming amount of ignorance and close-mindedness is probably going to make me snap one day. I like this place, I like being able to discuss the games that I love with other people but some of the attitudes here just turn me off to the place completely.

Sorry, I don't know if some of the new s/s whining has just rubbed me the wrong way today or if it's just been building for a long time.

Welcome to the Internet.  It's a really crappy place unless you just learn to go with the flow.

Haters gonna hate, etc.

Clearly you haven't met the wonder that is Jethann (also voiced by Meer). Skip to 0:43 if you want to get right to the voice.

*New* whining, then? It seems like with 9 months or whatever to go until the game comes out they would eventually run out of new ways to whine, but I guess we shouldn't  underestimate the community...

I'm very well aware of the fact that the internet is full of jackasses. Going with the flow is fine but when it's shoveled at you constantly it becomes quite obnoxious. This is not the first community I've ever been a part of, I know opposition exists in just about any community where people from all walks of life interact, but it is one of the most aggravating communities (again, not this topic, I think you folks are fantastic) and I have a lot of patience so that's saying a lot.

Yeah, I don't go into the DA2 forums anymore. Not due to just the "they're all bi" uproar, but all the hating on what is  a very good game, just because it isnt Origins.

Sorry, that'll be my last off-topic post if I can help it.

Blows. My. Frikken. Mind.
Seriously, if Meer has that talent, why does the voice director have him be so.... BLAND!?

Sadly, I probably won't play any of the m/m romances out, because, after 2 games, Shep is female, to me. And none of the men really appeal to me all that much. *shrugs*

Pretty much sums up my Shep's feelings by the end of ME2.

I decided that if I do play a ManShep, he'll be gay. It's going to be very hard because Shepard to me is a female so I might spend most of the playthrough going "Why can't ManShep be voiced by Jen Hale?"  Granted Meer does a fantastic job, when *not* voicing ManShep. Every time I saw his name in any DA credits I was so pleasantly surprised to hear how wonderful he can be when not forced to make a slightly stilted delivery. I absolutely died of laughter when I found out he voiced Jethann, such a wonderful surprise.

Yeah, it's an interesting question. I perhaps wouldn't point fingers at either Meer or the audio team; it might've even been a deliberate ploy to keep the tone "neutral badass" for ME and now they're sorta stuck with it.

Honestly we probably will never know - but in comparison to Jennifer Hale's emotional range the mShep playthrough does seem a little... bland at times.

From what we've seen of ME3, though, they've got Meer doing a lot more vocally (as someone said above, the vent scene with the kid was great). Perhaps they're even responding to some of the criticism and are opening up the character a little.

Plus, Mark Meer is a biotic god, so at least he's doing one ME voice right

...which means if you're playing ManShep, Mark Meer is talking to himself in that scene. That must've been a fun recording session!

Ok let's move on to the truly important question.  How long will you cry when you find out the LI you are interested in will not be available for s/s loving?
I figure I'll be moping until I pop ME3 in to be installed or a week or so, whichever is shorter.

I won't mope. I've played my GayShep (Colonist/Sole Survivor) as being a rather solitary sort, who was attracted to Kaidan but not "pining" for him. Come on, he may be GayShep, but he's still Commander Shepard. He's not emo. He'd love to find a guy like Kaidan, and if that guy happened to be Kaidan, well, great. But he's not really actively looking for love, he'll actually be rather surprised if it finds him. He's been through so much, losing Ashley on Virmire did a number on him. It was too much of a reminder of Akuze. Then dying and coming back to life, and then losing Jack in the Suicide Mission. Loss just seems to follow him around like a shadow. So if there is a bright spot in his future in the form of a good-lookin' man who seems to care about him, he'll probably wonder if he stepped into someone else's life or something.

My LesbianShep (Earthborn/Sole Survivor) is already in a committed relationship with Liara, and they are completely on the same wavelength. She actually thought Liara was a bit naïve and too trusting at first, but after their first "meld" she began to see that there was more to her, and they grew to care about each other a lot. It would be hard to imagine her and Liara parting ways, especially after that business with the Shadow Broker. Simone Shepard is very pleased with the way that worked out, having full access to the Shadow Broker's information network was an unexpected bonus, and the only drawback is that Liara is stuck on that awful ship on Hagalaz.

Well, I survived it once before, that Ashley wasn't availabe for my FemShep and I was fine with it until recently, when hope received an adrenaline shot straight to the heart. And though with new hope may come new grieve, it won't probably be as bad as the first time. And I value a good heartache almost as much as good lovin', so bring it on, but please Ash, turn my FemShep actually down, if you don't like her 'that way' and don't just ignore her!

Personally though:

I either like/dislike people generally based on their behaviour towards me and certain character traits that are important to me. Sexuality and eg. looks are by an order of magnitude less important.

However I am not able to fall for a lesbian or a guy. My brain produces a logical block to that.

EDIT and PS: Since I was a tali fan since ME1 I can kinda understand your dilemma though. Posted Image In that sense it ain't fair that it was catered to taliba uh fans and not people wishing for s/s romances.
