I'm not sure it's really all that likely that you have to jump through hurdles to do a Bioware romance these days.

Thing is, all it'd take is one missed plot flag or dialogue option and you'd never even know Ashley was an option.

Considering there's now a friendship path (instead of 'romance or nothing'), all it'd take is one dialogue option early on to shut off future romance.

Maybe.

Isn't there dialogue on the Citadel scene about "I need you back up and running" versus "The Alliance needs you back up and running?"

Just effin' confirm the romances already, this is getting ridiculous.

Seriously, I'm tired of this. From now on, I'm done speculating on s/s romances until we get some actual super real confirmation like prima guide SCANS/PICS or videos from the game. It's just tiring at this point

Does anyone else here think that being able to impregnate EDI is blatant fan service? Especially the way we are railroaded into it. Totally ruined my immersion. I hear if you are playing female Shepard you have to talk Vega into doing it. That is really a slap in the face IMHO.

ugh, tell me about it. my shepard is mute and ridden with social anxiety issues. really v. disappointed that these games are forcing him to speak and interact with others. whatever happened to roleplaying

I really hope spoiler guy was just locked into a romance before he could trigger Ashley's.

I still think it's weird even if it's an option and still has no effect on my Shep. It bothers me mostly because there was no flirting of any kind between the two in ME1 or ME2. But suddenly in ME3, without any explaination, Ash is bisexual.

I think it's cheap, especially since Liara was a romance option for FemShep from beginning until the end. That actually makes sense and doesn't require explaination. But for Ash and Kaiden, I think there does need to be some sort of explaination.

I mean, what the hell? Why wait until ME3 to do this? It seems like a wasted opportunity that either should have been taken advantage of in ME1 or just left alone in ME3. Would people be upset that they couldn't romance those two characters if they played the same gender? Of course. But I think people would get over it.

Ok, firstly, if you have trouble with something even if it's optional and doesn't affect you, I think you're being unnecessarily opposed to what would satisfy and delight a lot of people.

Secondly, if Ash is bisexual in ME3, she was always bisexual. Since she never said she was straight, I don't see the problem here.

Thirdly, they "waited for ME3 to do this" because, in ME's case, timing and resources limitations (and the decision not to make the VS available) prevented s/s romances. For ME2's case, it was more like executive meddling and risk-aversion.

Fourthly, yes people would be upset. I'm not one of them, but I know many people in this thread and elsewhere who would be. Kaidan (particularly) and Ashley are by far the most popular potential s/s characters. Literally hundreds of people have posted about how pleased they are that they'll be available in ME3. With respect, I don't think you can appreciate that or understand it.

Bioware have a chance to open up characters to both genders - characters that were *never* identified as straight, except by players themselves - and satisfy a bunch of their fans in the process. There's nothing wrong with that.

(Not to mention that given ME3's squad was finalised before s/s romances were, by the looks of it, they had to work with who they had available.)

But what prevented s/s romance with the VS in ME1? Obviously BioWare intended the VS to be straight since you could only romance them if you played as the opposite sex. True, they didn't just come out and say they were straight, but I think it was implied by the lack of a romance option if Shepard was the same sex.

That said, I do think some explaination is in order. I'm not opposed to the idea, I just want some in-game clarification. Is that so bad?

The Australian release is the 8th... it's been confirmed for months.

However I heard recently, as in a couple of days ago (from the place that I have ordered my special edition ME3 from) , that the release date may have been pushed back as they have no record on when they are getting ME3.

EB, JB and GAME are all saying March 8 - unless you're in a regional area it should be that all over the country.

(Although, if your local store is saying later, they're probably right - I'm not sure.)

So if Sam can be started as a casual thing, is she still a full romance? Or is she truly a new Kelly (not just in job).

Don't know for sure...the guy playing stopped after getting the shower scene.

I imagine it can build into something more later.

I would think she is much more than Kelly. Doesn't Samantha have lines
about wanting a dog, two kids and a house near the end of the
game(atlease that's what I remember from the leaked script). I also
believe she says "I Love you" to Shepard.

Unless things have changed, I would say Samantha is a Full Romance not Kelly Level romance.

At this Point BioWare should just tell us. Hopefully Ashley is a S/S Option.

I mean really though.  With a birth scene to rival Twilights in its graphic visceralness.  Doesn't Bioware understand how much this hurts my immersion.  Even worse, the poor children who have to witness this.

Good thing they kept that secret Harbinger romance in.  So nice and wholesome! ^_^

Good good. That makes me happy since we now have VS worries.

BioWare! Why do you give us a demo where the VS doesn't even try to hide the fact they are staring at Shepards butt (which makes Vega's next comment really funny) and then we get all confused because we hear different things from everywhere ;x

You're probably right in that it was the developer's intention, and not made explicit.

Well, it's made explicit in ME3, because you can clearly romance them as both genders. Their intentions or implications in ME are irrelevant. From an in-universe perspective, the VS was never established as straight in the first or second games, and now they're available for both genders. Make of that what you will.

As for an explanation, well - that's for Bioware to decide, surely. There are some lines in there, sure, but if it doesn't provide a comprehensive explanation I hardly think it's a big deal. You're welcome to make your displeasure known, but I don't think Bioware sees it as a priority.

If the choice is between 'satisfying loads of fans' and 'expanding on something we only implied two games ago, and never confirmed explicitly' - well, I know what I'd choose.

I'm not terribly distressed about VS not being available. Like I said, my opinion is that they shouldn't be changed for fanservice, but I also realize it would make a lot of people happy.
As it stands I don't really care either way. I'm not going to cry about the outcome whatever it is.

On the bright side however it seems Cortez and Traynor are S/S exclusive! Every source has said so and at least one of them has to be right! Posted Image

VS: Uh, Shepard. I just want you to know, for some reason, that if you were the opposite gender I would have assumed the position for you instantly and you would have to have beaten me off with a stick. But you are the same gender, so I waited until now. For some reason I felt the need to state the obvious for the player even though it means nothing to you.

It's a Barbershop Quartet actually:  Harby, Jacob, Mordin and Garrus all sing a few songs from the Pirates of Penzance renamed the Pirates of Omega.  Aria and Hackett  make a special guest appearance and teach everyone how to dougie. :)

Tis quite AWESOME.
