Something tells me that they couldn't romance Ashley because he was already romancing Liara. The VS is probably 'locked' unless you don't have a romance active or something. Maybe because the VS knows Liara as well, while Samantha doesn't and aparently seemed more like a fling (in the earlier stages of the relationship which were the only part the player tried out).

For not bi we have continuity, and s/s being a new feature since only the asari(who have no gender) were bi before so f/f ast relationships don't count and neither does kelly since she never really did anything with shep. I feel more inclined to believe now that bioware will only have new exclusive ME3 haracters as s/s options.
