Also, looks like SAFG's version is outdated. Possibly troubling.

Why? He did say Cortez is dark-skinned. He is. And in certain lighting, he almost looks Jacob-black, like in CVG's Normandy tour video

He most definitely doesn't look black. Especially Jacob-black. And he's lacking the features.
He just looks slightly darker-skinned. I did not know that constituted as black?

Got the Kaidan pic from his thread, no idea of source.

Yeah was thinking about the SAFG version, the rating is saying no nudity or sexual scenes (just implied) so that would make the claimed shower scene kinda of hard to do.

Was that a shower LOVE scene or just two soldiers in a group shower like Starship Troopers maybe?

But he definitely looks like this mixed race thingy they were going on in the original ME1. Samantha also looks mixed. And the SA guy was uncertain whether Sam is black or Indian or some other ethnicity

He's as dark as Anderson if not darker in that picture.  He could be a lighter-skinned black-hispanic man, perhaps?

Oh snap, it's Steve!!!

He looks good! Oddly enough he looks very similar to my CC Shep. Still character creation-y but... good! I approve!

If Cortez is Hispanic he could have any number of racial groups in his background. Plus the ME writers have said something to effect that there are so many mixed people among humans that the Whites (especially blondes) are disappearing. *Facepalm.*

Black doesn't really mean super dark skinned and it often used to refer to people who are only have one black parent. Brian Stokes for example is a black/ african american actor.  And as others have noted with the racial melting pot seperate races would be a rarity.  I've always assumed that Ash had some black ancestry with her coloring and considering the VA is seems appropriate....though I doubt the characters gives  a damn!  They all nice and good looks, that's what is important!:wizard:

He still has the features. Cortez doesn't.

He might mean like a black guy with light skin, perhaps a mulatto.  I can see that, especially since he resembles my maleShep and my Shep was designed to look mulatto.  Heck in the demo I thought Steve was black when I first saw him.

But seeing this now I'm think that possibility is less-so, what with the blue eyes.  He probably just has naturally tanned skinned.  Or perhaps just a dash of some sort of darker-skinned ethnicity.

Bottom line is "features" and other sterotypes aren't a guarantee of anything, just make some things more likely. And that's not PC everyone is equal la di da stuff, just facts.

Ah, yes. Let's remember the GOOD TIMES on BSN by debating whether or not Steve and Sam are Black or not like the DA2 threads had with the "new" Isabela. Awesome stuff, that.

Huh. He really does look different under better lighting. Could be his facial expression in this pic but he looks pretty different from the demo. Hope we get a better quality one soon :3

That's what I thought.

Apparently, you're implying I'm being racist, Chun? What the hell?

The term "black" covers a wide range of looks, especially these days. I mean, Wentworth Miller is technically black if you go by the one-drop rule.

We can just say they're both dark-skinned and leave it at that.
It's not going to be important in-game.

As a multiracial, "ethnically ambiguous" person myself, I think it's great that Bioware features characters that don't fit neatly into the "please check one" census scenario ;).

I did not say it mattered.
I said he doesn't look Jacob-black. Which is the impression I got from SAFG, hence the possibility that he was in his game and therefore that his version is outdated. Which leads me to think other things (like the shower scene, and again, the VS) being outdated too.

I don't want to argue or get into a disagreement, it's just...misconceptions irritate me.

There are black people with blue eyes.  Quite a few of my cousins have gray eyes and their parents are also black, not light skinned, not mixed.  Not all black people have dark skin, or large noses or big lips.

Steve's last name is Cortez which means he could be as Chun Hei just discussed any number of races or combination of race and ethnicity.

That being said, he looks fabulous and I'm excited for those who like him and will romance him.

The really important question is what do Sam and Steve look like NAKED. Sadly we may never know.

Somebody start modding now.
