At about the 6:30 mark is when the conversation begins. She says "God" and nothing about being "Christian". Unless there's some option I've missed, that is.

I'll just take your word for it, rather than listen to Ashley. No offence to the Ashley fans but I just couldn't stand her.

Don't know why you'd think that, if they were worried about controversy they wouldn't have put any S/S romance into the game (or go with the endings they went with).

Coronation Street (A pretty bad english soap opera lol) had Sophie, who was really religious, and she came out as a lesbian last year. It was rather well written for a soap opera, and was the only reason i watched it for a brief time. (I mean there was the blatant coming out drama, but hey, soap opera
So even if Ashley was Christian, they could have handled it okay, I think

I am all for those who love her to be able to lover her, but I personally left her on Virmire every time cause I couldn't stand her. Though if I had to choose between her and Tali....

Notice that Leliana is highly religious (yea, I know, people can't claim she's Christian, but nonetheless) yet she's unashamedly interested in women - quite possibly more inclined towards them than men.

I figure it's more likely that Ashley isn't F/F to differentiate her from Kaidan and/or in consideration of the number of other s/s options.

But there is nothing in DA's religious dogma that is against homosexuality. Meanwhile RL religions seem to be against anything that isn't, one man, one woman, married to each other, unprotected, missionary position sex for the sole purpose of having a child.

Right. I'm just saying that Bioware isn't necessarily scared of making religious/spiritual characters gay or bisexual. There seems to be no precedent of it, anyway. But there is nothing in DA's religious dogma that is against homosexuality.

Really ? She was my second favorite squadmate in ME1. It is just her bad luck that Kaidan is my number one. But if there was the option to leave Tali or Liara with the bomb instead of her I would not need more than a second to decide who stays.RomanDark wrote...

Well, I don't see why her being Christian (if she is) would stop her being bi, even if that is the case.

I don't live in UK or USA however know their general look at those kind of things.
As you said it is English Soap not an American one. To me British people always seems cool with LGBT issues while Americans have their very terrifying groups who has very very twisted ideas (like those whose blamed gays for soldiers who died in Iraq).
Also UK have TV shows starring Russell Tovey and John Borrowman who, I think, are very good role models for young gay people.

I don't really like Ashley, but I thought she was a stronger character than Kaidan writing wise. And the interactions with her as unromanced male Shepard were definitely stronger than the interactions with Kaidan as unromanced male Shepard.
But that's just my opinion.
She's the most well written squad mate so far, in my opinion. I'd choose her over Kaidan if he wasn't potentially the only m/m squad mate.

I am still pretty ticked that since ME1 the development team seems to have this "oh, Lesbians = hot, gay guys = icky so lets not have in our game" mentallity. Even if BW seems to be netural towards homosexuality regardless of gender or pro-homosexual depending on which side of that argument that you fall on, the ME team has what I like to refer to it as a "American" attitude towards sexuality. And I refer to it as such because female homosexuality seems to be more mainstream, more accepted in American media than male homosexuality is. And even then female homosexuality is more as sexual titillation for blokes than genuinely remarking; "hey some women prefer other women".

Forgetting what we've recently been discussing, I feel like the dialog and character roles that occur after Virmire were primarily made for Ashley, too. She's the most well written squad mate so far, in my opinion. I'd choose her over Kaidan if he wasn't potentially the only m/m squad mate.

They really need to quit doing this.

True - that's why I'm being careful with 'if'
And yes, Steve's story in particular strikes me as the writers saying "controversy be damned, just throw in a married gay guy".
But you have to admit, there'd be a particularly conservative-wingnut-blogpost-attractive quality about "Christian soldier who believes in traditional values GOES GAY BECAUSE BIOWARE ARE UNGODLY, etc etc"

I wouldnt say all British people are all cool with LGBT issues, but we certainly don't have as many terrifying groups. When TV shows here do add gay or lesbian etc characters to a show, theyre often accused of "pandering" and just going out of their way to show "diversity and accepting" *facepalm*
Well anyway, far OT enough for now

It's important to point out that the development team can't do a thing if some executive (or even a higher up person in the team) gets nervous about s/s content and either waters it down or orders its removal.
Blaming 'the devs' as a whole isn't very productive. Many of the individual writers are huge advocates for lgbt rights.
(That doesn't excuse the stupid 'herp derp HAWT LESBIANS but fade Steve to black' thing, if indeed that has happened)

I extracted the audio files - Ashley is not S/S. FemShep has little to no dialogue options with her, while MShep has tons of dialogue. Oh well.
I genuinely feel for the Ash fans.
While I'm not inviting you to 'do a Klace', any chance we could get some information on the mShep/Kaidan lines?
Or even confirmation that they're there?
This is Uncertainty Thursday, after all.

And Australia has Molly Meldrum as a gay role model. And if you heard even a fraction of the stories that are about him, you wouldn't exactly call him a "good" role model.
