Ugh. I was fine with a smaller squad assuming we got DA2 quality friendship paths but if this is it...

I'll be in my angry dome.

Surely Ash can't be set aside that much, we must be missing something. Making the two VS different dosen't mean making one take more place and get Bi while practically erasing the other aside from where she's needed it the plot, and Bioware must know that. Or if they don't, *facepalm*.

i hope your riht for those who want her. i be lying if i saidiwasnt attempted if she was. but like you said doesnt make sense. on top i seen a few post in other threads saying that noone 100% certain...and i'm going nuts trying figure outwhat true an what not.

This is misinformation. A lot of people are still reluctant to say they're gay or bisexuals in surveys.. because they're not out (yet) and are afraid someone will find out.
Bisexuals are even less likely to say they're bisexuals because they can simply pretend they're straight (after all, they are attracted to the opposite sex).

For example, a survey says that 19,3% of the male population in Rio de Janeiro is gay or bisexual. That's a city of  12 millions inhabitants in the metro area.
Incidentally, gay pride parades in Brazil are the largest in the world.

We are NOT supposed to discuss the nature of homosexuality in this thread,  only the implementation of s/s romances. It doesn't matter how many people in the world are actually gay or bi since you don't have to be gay or bi to role play a s/s character, nor are s/s romances forced on players who don't want them.

To be honest, at this point I wish the whole series had been bi or hero-sexual from the start, even Steve and Sam.

This OP is a work-in-progress, so bear with me (and feel free to make suggestions).

This thread's purpose is to discuss same-sex romance in Mass Effect 3.

This thread's purpose is NOT to discuss real-world issues related to homosexuality, gender identity, politics, religion, etc.

This thread doesn't exist for people to express that they are against the inclusion of same-sex romance either. It's been confirmed by BioWare, and if you want to petition them to take it out, do it somewhere else.

A reminder: If you observe an instance of "trolling" or baiting, or other types of misbehavior, PM one of the moderators with a link to the offending post. I have every confidence that such things will be dealt with swiftly. NO OTHER ACTION IS REQUIRED, and please, above all, do not quote any offensive posts or respond to them.

And to quote Chris Priestly:
Please remember:
All romances in Mass Effect 3 (as with parts 1 and 2) are optional. If you do not enjoy romance options in games, please stay out of discussions where fans of such romances can discuss them. Mass Effect 3 also has same sex relationships. If you do not enjoy or approve of same sex relationships, please stay out of discussion on these topics. While we respect each person's personal beliefs, we do not allow insults, ridicule or hatred against people on these forums based on religion, politics, race, age or sexual preference. People breaking the Site Rules will be dealt with accordingly.
And this is the tweet that started it all, Casey Hudson's May 15, 2011 confirmation of the inclusion of same-sex romance options in ME3:
Happy to confirm #ME3 supports wider options for love interests incl. same-sex for m&f chars, reactive to how you interact w/them in-game.
You can find a list with hotlinks of the rest of Casey Hudson's relevant links in this post:

Also, for the purposes of this thread, asari characters are female. If you somehow don't think asari are female, first get glasses, then open a biology book, then read the Codex, then take the discussion to another thread. Around here, asari are female. This thread is NOT a discussion of asari biology.

And another tip: If you find yourself using the word "retcon", which is a poorly-understood portmanteau of the phrase "retroactive continuity", you're probably veering off-topic. In fact you're probably careening off-topic. Those are discussions for other threads, so please discuss such topics elsewhere.

Here's the one convo you are apparently have with Ashley:

You get to ask her why she's passed out on floor.
The answer is that she got drunk with Vega last night.
That's it. The rest you have with her is auto dialog Zaeed style.

What

That can't seriously be it. They wouldn't do that.

If you enjoy playing moderator you should apply to volunteer. Bioware is always in need of a costless and entusiastic labour force.

Also.
We didn't discuss the nature of homosexuality; we discussed the percentage of people who are gay or bi. Because, you know, if people throw around the term "target demographic" all the time it's good to know the percentages and some facts.

It does matter, and I've not seen anyone advocating that someone who isn't gay/bi can't/shouldn't play and enjoy a gay romance.

It is possible that the Zaeed/Kasumi style conversations MAY only occur when there is no actual dialog. For instance, the infamous "calibration" scene in ME2 with Garrus. Instead of having him say he's calibrating when there is no actual dialog going on, you'll get the random Zaeed/Kasumi thing. I'm sure you'll still be able to have actual conversations with Ashley and ALL the major character, just not all the time.

This is the case. Mini Zaeed-like dialogues are suppoused to fill void when there's no major-conversation triggered yet.

And BTW, I just knew it Abispa that you like Chakwas :P

a) is not necessary to assume since he can be chosen to be alive in a new game, therefore, whoever hasn't played the previous games and wants a male squadmate (for romance reasons or not) will choose him, and those that have played ME and were holding out for Kaidan saved him anyway and/or can do the same. If they didn't then...they weren't interested in him, I guess? Perfectly valid. No matter how many options there are, people will prefer some and dislike others.
You can also argue that people will lose out on something if they do just one playthrough. For those that don't pick Kaidan, they'll just miss out on Kaidan. Doesn't mean he's not there. And if they're really interested, they can read up on it and fix that. Most of your points are rather similar, actually.
As for BioWare not being worried, I agree.
And finally as for why, because maybe a lot of s/s fans wanted Kaidan for years unlike James and they wanted to do it as a service to the fans (just like any other romance, really)?

Yes, Mass Effect is full of choices, but as BroShep on Virmire Kaidan wasn't anybodys lover. It wasn't a choice to save or blow up player characters love interest back then. And the player couldn't know he was going to become a love interest. So multiple playthroughs, starting over, informing yourself - It takes some effort. Really depends on what kind of fan service this is. I'm just thinking about the ME2 statistics, about what Hudson said, how only half of all players even played all the way through the end (which I know is not bad compared to your average game). How many play the game more than once? How many of those actually make different choices than in their previous playthrough? Maybe they just play another class or another difficulty with a few different choices to see what happens. It quickly narrows down to the well... "hardcore" fans I think. No matter what you call them, how many of them care about m/m romance? And if it's fan service, how many of those fans actually want specifically Kaidan? I just... don't know. I can't figure out Biowares intentions on this one right now. Perhaps it's just too much speculation, too much we just don't know.

My Renegade Shep did that but he has plans for Tali (sometimes spoilers can add flavor to your game Posted Image). However I can say that Tali's romance one of the worst I've seen to date.
