Hmm well I was judging Ashley by her "I am no fan of aliens" line on Horizon.

And main point of the post was hypocrisy of people who think being a LGBT christian is wrong but being a racist christian is right. (As you can see others already dwelved well into racist/xenophobe discussion).

Lighter skinned LI is also a reasonable request because of ME3 engine or lighting they used in this game. My main female Shepard is also has darkest tone for skin and at some points on demo her face can't be seen because of stupid amount of saturation. That poster's problem wasn't with Steve's ethnicity but with game lighting, most of the time dark skinned people look like black holes in your screen. Even I was thinking if I should make Tina one skin tone lighter because of that stupid saturation factor.

You basically can't see his face in that video, I thought that was just some problem with the recording, though? Not the actual game =/

When I was trying to make a character in the demo they kept turning out really pale or really dark, there didn't seem to be any middle ground, hoping its not like that in the release or I might have to go with Sheploo's.

If the game lightings will be like Demo's first part unluckily at some points using darkest skin tone is problematic. Most appearant in child in vents section of demo. While my other Sheps look very good in there, Tina looks like a shadow being with flaring eyes. Posted Image

cockpit of shuttle uses more ME2 style lighting and you can see Steve or dark skinned Shep very clearly. Why they changed from ME 2 smoother system is beyond me.

Hey now, my comment on his skin tone had nothing to do with the fact that he's black if that's what you're implying. As I said its mostly to do with the fact that on the Normandy when there is plenty of light, I couldn't make out any of his features. I'm hoping it's just weird lighting on whoevers game it was or some effect from the video recording/hosting that made it look so weird. Which I kind of find interesting cause in the demo he is in dark lighting and he looks almost white. Strange sort of flip-flop.

I'm not sure if this is the exact problem they were having, but when I was playing the demo shadows were way, way too dark, and it completely obscured people's faces at times.  I fixed this finally by increasing the number of cinematic lights and turning spherical harmonic lighting on in the ME3 demo configuration utility, which should be in your binaries folder.  It had been set to just one cinematic light before, which I guess caused shadows to be too harsh.

Maybe that was their issue, in which case things will hopefully be fine (or easily fixed) when you play!

I dont know what so bad about not having Ash as a romance option, w/w players still have/had Liara, Samantha, Kelly and Diana, m/m players only have Kaidan and Cortez (even tho im pretty happy with just Cortez lol)

It's not about ''how many options we have'', it's ''we want Ashley''. IMO, i'd prefer Ashley over Sam or Kelly (eww), or even Diana any day. They're probably not real romances anyway (like Kelly in ME2) and that's what worries me.
Kaidan is a real romance because he's a basic character, like Ashley.

I know, we have Liara too but some don't like her. Not me though, i adore her and she's my LI... So if Ash isn't bi (SAD) all is ok for me.

But, but... i always wanted Ash (especially now, with the new look)...:crying:

You know what I'm hoping for (and stating AGAIN)? I really want Bioware to give players the option to hit on ANYONE. Not because I'm looking to get laid, but because I want to see people TURNING HIM/HER DOWN, not just the artificial "if you can't hump it, you can't flirt with it" setting of older Bioware games.

That would require them going back to the text dialogue system, otherwise it's an outrageous amount of work and files for something so minor. Also, as devSin said, at that point it is more likely to become a substanceless feature, like Fable's romances. The amount of resources needed to implement it realistically could be far better used in other areas of the game (lack of meaningful dialogue with party members, exploration, expanded endings, etc.).

Yeah, I never had a problem with extreme shadows on the demo. I've got a decent rig so I maxed out all the options and forced other options through my graphics card and everything looked pretty good.

While hitting on anyone would be extreme, maybe having that option with followers or at least with all LI followers (if they are not all bi) will be nice change of pace. As those characters already fleshed out, I can't see a problem with adding two more lines to their conversations.

I'm pro LGBT as they come but being able to hit on anyone is still a bit much. There is a certain value to the argument that a character has their standards and beliefs and their gender and sexual preference can be a part of that. I'm okay with having Sam and Cortez in there as S/S options. At least we finally have those options.

I normally hate the 'be grateful for what you get' argument, but in this case I do think it's valid. Complaining that they haven't done more should never over-ride appreciating what they've done.

Besides, we may have far more to be annoyed about when ME 3 is released.

This is misinformation. A lot of people are still reluctant to say they're gay or bisexuals in surveys.. because they're not out (yet) and are afraid someone will find out.
Bisexuals are even less likely to say they're bisexuals because they can simply pretend they're straight (after all, they are attracted to the opposite sex).

The 4% figure is often highly repetitive, even across nations, which is why it's frequently used as a reliable figure.  Of course no one truly knows how many gays and bisexuals there are, but it sure as hell isn't 10% and above.

For example, a survey says that 19,3% of the male population in Rio de Janeiro is gay or bisexual. That's a city of  12 millions inhabitants in the metro area.
Incidentally, gay pride parades in Brazil are the largest in the world.

http://en.wikipedia....eople_in_Brazil

That figure is probably correct.  In the U.S, I've seen statistics of certain cities like San Francisco, which almost mirrors Rio de Janeiro's gay population with a 15% estimate.

However, there is a logical reason for such a high percentage.  Gays and other alternate lifestyle people tend to flock to cities (the bigger and more dense the population the better), because people who live in the cities are less likely to frown upon them.  So large cities always have an inflated percentage compared to other areas.

So if you do a survey to estimate how many LGBT people there are and you only target cities, then your result will be inflated.  Thats why random sampling is so important when it comes to getting accurate data.

"Highly repetitive"? Even if it was, it doesn't mean anything.

As I said, most men are still reluctant to reveal their bisexual/gay orientation, especially to some random person in a survey and especially in smaller cities.
Good for you if you're "sure as hell it isn't 10% and above". Good for us that you're not a relevant source.

The influx of gay men into such a huge city such as Rio de Janeiro is not enough to considerably change the percentage.
You obviously weren't able to connect that in big gay-friendly cities men have an easier time revealing their sexual orientation.

LOL at  "alternative lifestyle".

@iamthedave - I'm pretty sure that particular argument had nothing to do with the PC's or NPCs' sexual preference, but merely the option to hit on people in general.

@Halarid - while I agree, arguing with Carfax will get you nowhere.

@Frozen - yeah, I've heard about that... never experienced it in the game, though... was too busy kissing Anders. ;)

Halarid and Carfax, if you want to have a debate about statistics, take it to private messages. You can argue with each other to your hearts' content.

It's off-topic to this thread, and is the sort of topic that produces very divisive opinions.

Wannabe moderators popping out of every hole. :wizard:

This is not off-topic to this topic. People are constantly mentioning "target demographics"... gay men, straight men, bisex men.
To have an actual idea of the relevance of each audience you need to know some facts.
We're also constantly disregarding bi-curious mostly-straight men.

Yes, that's what opinions are for. They can be divisive. It's also good when they're backed up by logic and facts.

If you can't go deeper than to squee over a linear virtual romance with a virtual character who offers you 3 options at best in a conversation, that's your problem.

I see you have not been keeping up with this guy's posts. Any "argument" or facts you try to exchange with him will soon degrade into discussions on what's "normal" and thinly-veiled homophobia. There is no point as every time he pops up it's to rub it in our faces how we should "feel lucky" because "we" are "not normal" etc.

Also, there has been some serious discussion here of which Elite was a big part, so don't make stuff up just to insult him, it doesn't work in your favor.

Hostility really isn't appreciated - if you could deign to not act like a jerk, that'd be nice. Given our moderator overlords' newfound determination to enforce civility, it would be a shame if your attitude persisted.

Arguing about real-world and contemporary sociopolitics is off-topic. Go and read the first post of this thread.

If you want to discuss statistics of bisexuality and Kinsey scales, take it somewhere else. Since you're only arguing with Carfax, perhaps you two can quote facts at each other via PM.

To be clear: arguing about the statistics of sexual orientation - however relevant you think it is - does not end up anywhere helpful, nor is it appropriate for this topic. We've had exactly this argument more times than I can remember. It's never productive, and I don't think you're about to change that. Particularly if you insist on using logic in an argument that often has illogical participants.

You won't win, you might derail this thread, and all for an argument that's been repeated dozens of times in nearly nine hundred pages.

Right, I don't know your histories because I'm not going to read this entire thread.
I've said what I wanted regarding percentages, because we can't allow lies to permeate.

Listen, I don't care what that wannabe moderator said in the past, I reacted to that specific intervention.

It's not the entire thread, it's been mentioned in the last couple of pages.

If you don't care what he said then don't assume what he did or did not say.
Furthermore, asking for some civility and not degrading the thread as I already mentioned is not "wannabe moderating". But if you insist on using that term, someone has to try and enforce thread rules when the moderators themselves are apparently incapable of doing so.

And you're doing just that... derailing this thread with your petty comments about a simple exchange (of percentages) between me and that guy.

You're indeed amusing; spoilers are being thrown around constantly, there's crying about "fairness" all the time, there's debating about what straight men want and if lesbian romances are really for lesbians... and hundreds of theories about who the target is... but you're bothered because I corrected some lies?

I won't comment your "stop being a jerk" remark because I'd need to use a few words such as cow, brainless, behaving.... and that would be nasty. :wizard:

Halarid, they are trying to tell you that discussion with Carfax is pointless and that in their opinion is best to ignore that profile. Solid told you in his first post that he agrees with you, but thinks that Carfax isn't worth the effort invested into a discussion with him... It is not against you, it is only a comment about pointlessness of replying to Carfax. M.
