Though, the two sets might be variations depending on whether or not you imported an active romance with them or started a new one.

I would guess this triggers something during the game based on who you romanced or if you remained single.
Possibly something at the ending?

This news really really kind of dampened my excitement for this game. Ash is my favorite character, regardless of her being romanceable, and it would be awful if we can't even pursue her as a friend. The only thing left to do is hope that this all proves untrue in the end. ...And I have this unnerving feeling that she's is going to end up all awkwardy subtext a la Tali from ME2 (and that it will drive me absolutely crazy!).
