I do find it wrong that there is no new romance for the Straight female. I mean, if you're playing ME3 for the first time, then your only option is Kaidan.

Kaidan is all one really needs.

I found Anders and Fenris lines fitting their characters in DA2. If they became the model for EVERY s/s male LI from here on out I'd say your fears are justified. Maybe it was prejudice on my part, being a straight male, but the Anders romance DID feel different based on gender.

Not remotely prejudice. Anders is way different with a male Hawke. I have never romanced him with f!Hawke and never will, because he's a patronizing git who obsesses over protecting you and thinks you're too good and clean and perfect to be with his sparkly-skinned hole-dwelling self. I did manage to get through a m!Hawke, though, who he treats much more like a partner.

I do think it's pretty noxious that Isabela and Leliana talk about prior female lovers regardless of the PC's gender while Anders and Zevran... also talk about prior female lovers regardless of the PC's gender. Definite double-standard there.

On the "female lead" thing - Ashley was definitely the female lead in ME1. It wasn't just that she was on the box. You get way more conversation with her than with Liara, you get her much earlier, and here's the important thing - she's part of the Virmire Choice. The way you can tell who the lead is is by looking at their relationship to the story. Find the most major, most emotional moments in the main narrative, and ask, "is this different and more intense of a situation if I'm romancing the companion in question." (Which incidentally answers the DA question: Isabela and Anders, Morrigan and Alistair. Though DA2 is weird since of the two women, Merrill isthe mandatory recruit...) Virmire and its aftermath is far more powerful if you're romancing your human subordinate than if you're romancing Liara. And they thought you would be - there are dev comments on the record indicating how surprised they were that so many people wanted to romance an alien.

I would argue, however, that post-LotSB and perhaps even as early as that inane comic, Liara has become the female lead of the series. (Miranda is the female lead for ME2, probably.) That was not the devs' intention when they made her bisexual, though. Outside of DA2, we never get the lead romance. Which is the other reason the "all bi" thing is so important. I don't think you can trust that the s/s romances will be equally integrated into the plot without it (intentionally or otherwise).

It'll be interesting to see what kind of role Kaidan ends up playing in the main narrative of ME3 and the wider storyarc of the series, and whether the dramatic moments some of the spoilers talk about come across more as loyalty mission stuff or main plot stuff.

No offense, but I kill Kaidan, and I don't think I'm alone when it comes to that.

So like I said, I think the straight female should have gotten another option.

Could have sworn he said a man....Sorry Anders it's been too long. Nvm since I have a boat load of credit with game now I'll pick up some points and Anders can give me a refresher, as I catch up on DLC. *grin*
Still, in it's gender neutrality it sounds completely natural, unforced and fairly touching given the surrounding scene and context.

Oh, and if you tell Morrigan to bugger off she shows up again right before the final battle to make the god-baby offer. Having played with her dialog tree I don't recall any lines that really acknowledge she hasn't been with you all along though, so I bet it plays out somewhat awkwardly. Not sure if she fights with you in the final battle if you agree, but I assume she does (though not sure why you'd agree either if you kicked her out).

Weakest moment in the game IMO. I always thought you shouldn't even get the god-baby option unless you'd done Morrigan's loyalty.

That would've made no sense. god baby was in Morrigan's self interest no matter how she felt about the warden.

Seriously. Being stuck with Kaidan or no one sucks.

Did someone check Diana's voice files already? Does she have sex scene? Or is she Samara/Vega like LI with flirting but no further progression in the span of the game (no matter what the reason)?

What are Thane, Garrus, and Jacob?

And isn't Vega sort-of available? Maybe not kiss and have sex (and then go to the horrible end), but there's still opportunity for some engagement, isn't there?

I don't see why not, it's not like Morrigan is doing the dark ritual so she can save the warden, she does it to gain more power.

Thane, Garrus, and Jacob are ME2 romances. You need to play that game to get their romances in ME3.

I'm talking about the new player who didn't play ME2. And is only playing ME3.

And from what I'm told, Kaidan is the only straight romance for Femshep in ME3. Vega is not a romance option.

He is light/flirting LI for FemShep, as Diana appears to be

Well, 1) her behavior makes no sense at all if she knew about the Ritual from the start, but if she learned from the Tome it all goes very smoothly, and more importantly

2) It's got nothing to do with the story, really, it's simply the fact that the god-baby is a huge game-changer and takes all the stress out of the endgame for about 50% of wardens, so from a metagame standpoint it would be good design to make the player work for it a bit.

Yeah, but is there a romance scene? Are they a couple? Or are they just saying "Wow, I'd love to do a work out on you!"

I agree that it's unfortunate. The reporter probably should have and could have easily been made a straight man.

Everyone knows there are no male reporters in the Mass Effect universe!

The elevator anchor in ME was always male IIRC (wasn't he? I only remember a female for ME2 news).

Maybe he moved up to field reporter for the war.

Oh, damn, I forgot about him. Could only remember al-Jilani, the one from the Citadel radios, and Emily Wong. My mistake.

1. Flemeth taught her the DR before she even left with the Warden the first time.

2. Also makes no sense because the god baby is something that Morrigan wants. Saving the Warden's life is just a secondary factor.

The batarians also had that grumpy-ass man to do their broadcasts on Omega. I always loved to hear his take on current events.

"To those responsible for the attacks on Horizon, we have this to say: good job! Don't give those upstart humans a moment to breath."

Yeah, I left him (?) off that list because... do we even know what a Batarian female sounds like? Haha :x
