I didn't really like that romance theme myself, not that it was bad just I prefer the ones from the last two games. Of course it might work better in context and my opinion could change.

The drinking scene, like MANY Bioware scenes, seems to be written for a wide variety of head canons. Unless Bioware explicitly states something as "fact," let your own imagination be YOUR guide and ignore everyone else.

I had to trim some of that ass in the picture so as not to violate BSN rules, which is fine since just past the crop point graphics display her bottom with straight lines and corners

Well, for what it's worth, I'm with you all the way on this one. If I can't romance Vega or Ash, I can't see what difference it would make for them to find happiness together. It's not like they're suddenly going to be extra un-romancable to my Shep if they romance each other. I can't have them either way. Having them get together adds flavour, and frankly, I quite like the idea of inter-squad relations that don't involve Shep, even if it's with someone Shep him/herself has had their eye on.
