Well, for what it's worth, I'm with you all the way on this one. If I can't romance Vega or Ash, I can't see what difference it would make for them to find happiness together. It's not like they're suddenly going to be extra un-romancable to my Shep if they romance each other. I can't have them either way. Having them get together adds flavour, and frankly, I quite like the idea of inter-squad relations that don't involve Shep, even if it's with someone Shep him/herself has had their eye on.

That's life, folks.

Plus, with all the squaddies that have been in the Mass Effect games it'd be realistic to see some of them actually have personal lives, rather than waiting for Shep to activate their romance flags.

Indeed.

I get that this is Shepard's story, so it caters to the player's whims at the expense of a certain amount of verisimilitude, but something like that could be integrated rather well, I think. Seeing the rest of the squad actually living lives in the background, rather than just standing around waiting for interaction with the player would create a richer experience, I believe.

But if you go too far in that direction, you end up with Dragon Age II—where every night is a party... and you're not invited.

But it would be nice to see two people who you couldn't romance become involved. But we had Joker and EDI and Ken and Gabby; I'm not so sure it would work for ME squadmates simply because they all could be dead by this point.

I wouldn't have so much of a problem with them hooking up, except the supposed reason vega turns Shep down is because of the importance of the mission or whatever, but he's willing to get with Ashley? That would make no sense to me. Posted Image

But I thought he wasn't just brushing Shep off, just putting the mission first? At least, i thought thats the conclusion we'd come to? (Swear thats what I read somewhere. Maybe I'm just imagining things. Meh. I know so little about the Vega stuff, haven't really been keeping up Posted Image.)

No, I don't know any of the spoilers either, but it's something I could definitely see.

No, see, that's the equivalent of "friendzoning".

Yes it is.

If both Shep and Shep's object of interest end the game single with nary a flirt passed between them, it's perfectly reasonable to assume that something might develop in the aftermath.

If Shep's object of interest ends the game in a hot'n'heavy with another character, that's a serious obstacle to any kind of easy presumption of off-screen romance (either after the game or, for that matter, during, if you're the fanficcy type).

Also it doesn't necessarily make a lick of sense. I mean Ash/Vega very well might, we don't know enough about Vega, but Fenris/Isabela is certianly wildly out of character for Fenris, and relatively OOC for Isabela too if it happens after Hawke has slept with Fenris. It really feels like it was just tossed in there for the sake of "lives outside of Hawke" or "isn't that hot/cute/funny" or something along those lines and not out of any respect for the characters as they are. I can name at least one romance in ME3 that strikes me the same. I don't have a whole lot of faith that any other such romances would be any better.

I'm glad I killed Ashley off if she's gonna start stealing Shepard's LIs now.

EDIT: Why is pretty much every term for a man's private parts censored on this forum!?

So, out of interest, just how awkward is it to 'break up' with existing romances in ME3, assuming you actually can? Since I'll be working on a ME2 playthrough this week (more to refresh my memory than anything else), I'm slightly curious as to whether I'll need to make a no romance save to import or if I can just go with my default Garrusmance.

It's amazing. But also, this one.

Seriously, I've been listening to it over and over. And Nothing's Impossible kinda fits too... never took a note of the lyrics before. Now I want to see DM live again, and maybe not have a fever like the last time I had tickets and everything.

And not that it's a deal-breaker but I would be much more open to an Ash/Vega relationship if my Shep didn't want first dibs. That would make it three characters in the game I wanted but who turn Shep down; realistic sure, but kinda starts sucking when I think about it. And yes, it messes with head canon possibilities! I'm all for otherwise unromanced characters hooking up though.

I'm going back through all the pages I need to read in this thread. seeing Simba at the top of every one and almost laughing out loud. This is dangerous in class.

Anybody have the game yet? It might be out in Australia within 24 hours.

I am so glad I went to bed when I did and missed the sexism. Not going to name names (damn troll has already burned me once, not doing it again).

Although he did make me want to look up this video.

And when I saw the "new and improved" Vega the idea of him being a LI disgusted me. Now that he isn't really a LI and nowhere near a same-sex LI I feel like I am ready to breath fire (or maybe that's just my reflux, but that doesn't take away from the fact I am mad about).

And about Vega's VA did anyone find it slightly a "Mike Tyson" situation.

According to the super secret game guide I have access to, that situation activates a special loyalty mission where you revisit the Krogan arena and the competing LIs spar over Shepard. If the Shepard is a straight male his LIs engage in a topless Jell-O wrestling match while wearing nothing but thongs. If the Shepard is a straight female a wormhole opens up and all her LIs cease to exist. Gay males obviously cannot do the mission and lesbian Shepard has a Samara/Morinth situation were she can don a similar outfit and convince them to participate in a slow motion threesome scene.

As far as the Ash/Vega thing goes...

For me it's more of a situation where my femshep would probably be happy for her if a little bit depressed, but as a player it would kinda be salting the wound (ie: YOU CAN'T ROMANCE EITHER OF THEM HAHA YOU HAVE TO WATCH THEM HOOK UP). If both (or even one) of them were romanceable, and they engaged in said relationship at a certain point if you hadn't romanced either of them then it would be a different story.

Also, I freely admit that it wouldn't bother me so unduely if the wound of Ash not being s/s wasn't so fresh. :P
