Pretty much. This is the worst thing about ME3...well aside from the endings. Samantha had some potential, but she just flopped. Her romance and character were rushed and feel like they were included for pandering. That and the lame excuse about how Liara is a s/s romance as well kind of have a lot of us annoyed.jlb524 wrote...

Does Sam have any conversations off the Normandy?
None.
She barely has any on the Normandy either.

I have just the impression that people don't take their time to talk with each of their companions in the game.

Cortez talks in missions as well though, given that he is the shuttle pilot! He feels connected and a part of your squad. If Traynor had directed comm chatter as well she would seem as impactful, but EDI or squadmates handle that as much, if not more than she does in a mission. She has no useful combat role and has less dialogue outside.Sylvianus wrote...
No. Cortez has more cutscenes, but he doesn't talk much without them. Samantha has less cutscenes, but she has a lot more lines than him.

Just the fact that her romance has no build up is a major problem. There is no date scene, just her showing up in your cabin for chess and then a "tasteful" shower scene.

Otherwise, very often, " commander, " and that's it, no words, while Samantha gives almost always her feelings, and some stuff interesting. I mean, yeah he has more cutescene, so yeah in a game with cinematics, i understand the need to see them. ( impactful on the player, etc etc )
I am happy with what she says personally.
I didn't try yet the romance, so I don't know about that, but I am sorry if you are disappointed with this character. I really appreciate her as a friend in my playthrough. I'll see in another playthough as my LI.Just the fact that her romance has no build up is a major problem. Do not get me wrong, I actually enjoy her character. I like her a lot better than Ash, just that as a squad I have a feeling Ash would have gotten more scenes, which are something I enjoy.Sylvianus wrote...
After each mission, I go to see what people on the normandy say, and Samantha has always something to tell. Cortez, some party banter with Vega, but that's it so far. If I like him, that's indeed thanks to the cinematics with him.

I also go around and hear what the crew says and Cortez comments at least as much as she does, talking about what he had to do in the mission. It's just that while she has stuff to say around the ship, she has little to say in mission and combined with her smaller amount of actual scenes, makes her feel like fluff.
If Sam was actually properly implemented I would not have minded no squad mate romance, but as is I feel she is very much tacked on, leaving my with a feeling of dismissmal, compared to male s/s LI's, and with wanting more from her in general.

Please don't patronize me. I actually have master in biology and working currently on my PhD, thank you. Partenogenesis involves only single individual. Asari, to be able to reproduce, must have another partner. True, they do not mix their genetic material, but the "mother's" is reshuffled by the telapthic input of "father". So it is not true earth-like partenogenesis.
Three things...
1) I'm sorry if I came across as patronizing, but this whole "is Liara female?" thing drives me around the twist.
2) Biology is a very big field, with a lot of specalizations in it. You say you're studying for your PhD, and I'm happy to take your word for that... but you didn't say which field you're specialized in.
3) And on Whiptails, there's a common theory that holds that they must engage in mock mating behaviour in order for the parthenogenesis process to begin, as those that do not engage in that behaviour do not reproduce. I'm interested to know your thoughts on that. (If you wish to respond, we might have to take it to PMs, though.)
but also bear in mind we are talking about a fantasy species that doesn't actually exist.
Exactly. I've written somewhere before that I'm only extrapolating our biological concepts and expandin them arbitrarly to encompass an alien biology. M.
But you're not happy to accept the Codex for the Mass Effect series (the only authority that is actually canon), which says they're female? (I'm confused, are you one of those contending that the Asari are hermaphrodites? I thought you were.)

You finally get Kaidan, someone who has been around forever. On top of that you get Cortez, who has plenty of content and fits right in. My only choice for a human s/s romance is Traynor who has the least amount of content for any romance. I like Traynor's character even, but her content is simply not there. Please understand this, it is great that Male s/s romance is finally getting what you deserve, but the fight is not over.Arik7 wrote...
I can't believe somebody's still arguing about Liara's gender. Who cares? We already have human s/s romances in ME3.

And also, I read somewhere, that she wasn't naked in the shower.. Really bad. Who would do that ? Do not make a cutscene in a shower if you don't want to show skin's character. T__T Just follow the logic. x__x
To be fair, it seems it was the same for all the M2 LI, apparently all romance except Liara and Kaidan / Ashley suck.

@ Noxsachi. I agree, as s / s issue, I can understand where is the problem. Steve is really impactful, Samantha isn't. I would be glad to see a dlc with Samantha ( mission ) to fix the lack of content.

Granted the only romance cutscenes I enjoyed were the original ME ones where they actually were naked and used careful camera angles, or the DAII ones which were just setup then fade to black. I have no idea what the other ME3 cutscenes look like...but Sam's is pretty silly.

Sam wearing underwear is BEYOND stupid, though.
As for Vega.... I hate him so much more than I thought I would. It's not enough that he's incredibly disrespectful, doing chin-ups while his commanding officer is addressing him (what happened to the devs' military consultant? because the degree to which that sh!t would not fly in any military in the world is mind-boggling), offering persistent unsolicited sexual comments toward both his commanding officer and his peers, and just generally being a frat boy douche. No, it's not even enough that Shep can't even *call* him on any of that due to the auto-conversation system and has to just act like it's completely fine. Apparently, on top of all that, they also had to force Shep to flirt back.
Like I didn't think anything could be worse than Jacob, but that conversation about Vega getting the tattoo? Whole new levels of fail. Even my femSheps who actually like dudes wouldn't talk like that. On gay-as-the-day-is-long mainShep it was such a slap in the face I actually quit the game and went and played SWTOR for a couple hours just to calm down. (Look, I'm overinvested, ok?)

But um...well okay I just liked FPJ's voice acting >.>; and the character is cool to me...but I have a soft spot for SPESS MEHRINES that he slides into. It certainly did not get as bad as "Oh, I just felt like /talking/ for a bit," but it is really bad that they did not learn a lesson from it.
Just letting him keep the nickname should not entail flirty banter the entire time if you do not want it.

Shep getting in the shower without stripping down doesn't bother me. *My* mainShep wouldn't do it because she has this whole "respect for the uniform" thing (then again, she wouldn't cheat on Ash to begin with), but it's not really so different from walking into the rain in your clothes to press someone against a wall because you just want them That Badly so it really doesn't seem that strange to me.

Oh thank you. You put into words why I don't like Vega better than I could. I thought I would be called a "hater" and grumpy if I said anything, since most folks like him, but it's so nice to see I'm not alone in my annoyance.
He's like the "Bart Simpson" of the military. He's all defiant and sassy and cool, but he gets away with it! Because he's a bro! And he spouts random spanish words!!! Yeah, I just don't find him appealing.

In this case, I wonder where is the difference. With Ashley for example in M1, she isn't anymore familiar with you if you ask her to stop to do so. And she also stop calling you skipper, only commander. You need to pick one line particular at the first discussion with her.noxsachi wrote...

Actually, it seems the same case for Liara. So far, I didn't see any option dialogue to tell I didn't like her. It seems canon that she's shepard's friend. Or maybe farther in the game, I don't know. Fortunately, I like Liara, but those who don't like her...noxsachi wrote...

It's getting to the point where there's five minutes of conversation where we don't get a choice, and often Shepard says things that I don't want to say.
I accept that there's a need sometimes for more cinematic presentation, but it's really grating when for two games almost everything was player-decided.

Then again I detached myself and already believed that Shepard isn't my character. It's Bioware's character and you can only affect certain things.
I don't like Liara, but I didn't feel like I had to be buddies with her. The "renegade" options are generally professional, business, and mission focused. You might have to treat her respectfully and as a valued crew mate, but you don't really need to take it further than that.
