Heh, I noticed on my replay that there is a lingering bum shot of Steve during the Citadel observation deck scene. Shepard would seem like a creep to be checking Steve out at a time like that.

Might be old news, but I figured out what decides the version of the cafe conversation with Kaidan.

If you're romancing someone (to the point where they would show up in the romance scene before the final battle), the conversation you have with Kaidan at the cafe is him expressing his appreciation and admiration for you as a friend and commander. If you're not romancing someone, you get him admitting romantic feelings instead.

Makes sense, the same is true if you start the romance with Cortez before speaking to him.

I'm really proud of Bioware putting same sex relationships in their games (especially male/male which is like virtually non-existant in video games) and doing it in a respectful and tasteful way. Too often whenever a gay character shows up its either an after thought (like in DA2) or done really over the top campy for comic relief. I'm so glad they kept this real. It was very refreshing to see!

I'm more than impressed by the exclusive gay characters. I think it was David Gaider that said doing an exclusive gay character was a waste of resources due to the limited audience it would receive. I absolutely understand and support that statement. Yet here we are with exclusive gay characters in a BioWare game and best of all, Steve at least, was an actual fully developed, wonderful character which quite frankly I never expected. I expected Sam to be far more developed and Steve to be a throwaway, afterthought. I am so glad I was wrong, thank you BioWare.

Edit: How do you sign it?
Use button Sign petition and write your name family and country.

Hate to tell you this, but I don't see a sign petition button.

And you didn't answer my question, is this just for female Shepard or for both male and female Shepard?

I couldn't agree with you any more. Since ME1 all I've wanted to do is romance Kaidan and two games later, we finally can. (I just wish they'd have made it from day one for that contiunity feel, as in my headcannon, my Shep has loved Kaidan since day one ) It's a shame about Ashley though, a real shame.

Sorry missed the first word (my eyes lingered on the word editet). Thanks for the answer.

Seriously how can I sign a petition when there is no sign petition button?

I haven't been able to spot any gay (male) couples on the citadel.
Are there any? Besides Steve and Kaidan, obviously.

Agreed also.  So much love for for Bioware atm, for including non stereotypical/camp romance for once.  Both m/m options seem....well real/human and believable, a logical evolution of the friendships.  Perhaps thats why they illict such vivid emotions from us all (looking at this thread and the Kaidan one speaks volumes).   As to lack of continuity...I agree...it worked for my colonist/sole survivor who was too concerned with stopping more needless death to consider his romantic feelings.   ...but  for other psychological profiles...not so much...oh well...absence makes the heart grow fonder...and it was so worth the wait in the end.

Kaidan has definately spoilt Ashley for me....every time she is alive...Kaidan is not :crying:

That is not fair at all. He said an exclusively gay companion with romance is hard to justify. The companion pool is very limited, and such content is expensive. It's a tough choice to make one of your small number of companions accessible only to one of your smaller fanbases.

I don't think he'd say the same thing about characters like Steve or Samantha at all, but the DA team also doesn't work that way (I don't believe they'd ever do a non-companion romance).

I know exactly what you mean. Ash is a cool character and all that (I still don't like but she is a cool character) but her being alive just means that Kaidan isn't.

Also I think BW learnt the hard way why open polls on FB are not a good idea.

I couldn't get this part, Ric. Is this about Krogan Poet?

No, the Guy as you enter Purgatory being harassed by the woman, once he finds out Richards (i think it was) writes poetry says something along the lines of "he's going to get it later".

The Kaidan romance was better for me anyway for the reason Steves feels off. Not only is it not rushed into, with Steve you literally just meet him and then push him to move on from his freshly dead husband. I like Steves character and all but even before confirmation of Kaidan I said it'd be nice to have a relationship develop over a trilogy, many years, ups and downs and they know each other well.

Yeah I wish we could have romanced Kaiden from ME1 but oh well, I'll take what I can get. And IMO, the love seen was kinda hot. :D

Bear in mind that Steve tells you that his husband has been dead for several months before the events of ME3. According to the way it pans out, Ferris Fields actually happened before the Collector events on Horizon. It isn't clearly specified. Given that Shepard was in jail for (I believe, not 100% sure) about six months [i[after[/i] the Collector events, one can say that his husband has been dead for almost a year. As for the romance plot, Shepard supports Cortez, telling him that Robert will always be a part of him-- Not telling him to just flatout forget about him.

I don't really think it's fair to say that Cortez's romance is less significant or meaningful than Kaidan's because it deals with his baggage. People are rarely devoid of absolutely any baggage, and it's mainly why I find Cortez's romance more believable and relatable.

I mean, yes it's nice that Kaidan's been holding out for you since the beginning of it all. But in my opinion, it's a little unrealistic, and blemished by the fact that he makes random comments about women/asari. It catches me a bit off guard.

Just my two cents on the matter, as I like both romances either way. Just prefer Cortez's a little more.

I didn't go the Cortez route because I didn't want my shep to be his sloppy seconds.  Kaiden only had eyes for ME!  :innocent:

Again, as I mentioned in my previous post, Kaidan comments on women throughout the series. I don't think he only had eyes for Shep... Cute and innocent as it would be.

I long to be so loved I'm replaced in less then a year including allowing intimacy....just saying.

P.s. Nothing to do with having issues of his "baggage", Not like Kaidan doesn't have baggage or am I so shallow I look for someone without any (which is either impossible or they've led the most boring life ever).

Poor Kaiden, he finally gets his love after years of longing, we get drunk, we make passionate love and all is right in the universe and then Shep promptly throws himself into a giant frikken laser beam and Kaiden gets to walk out of the Normandy wreck alone watching Joker and EDI get it on.

Everyone is different. Time frame doesn't make moving on from someone any more or less significant. Be it six months or six years, everyone moves on at their own pace. If someone comes along and makes you feel everything a dead lover made you feel, possibly more, why would you deny them simply because of your dead lover? To me, it seems selfish to think that a widow should remain faithful to a dead lover.

As I said when I first started posting in this thread; If I were to die while married/in love with someone, I'd want them to eventually find the strength to move on and be happy. Not mourn me and be absolutely miserable, or stifle themselves because they're constantly reminded of me. I'd want them to make their peace and be happy with the memories we made.

Why criticize Steve for being able to move on regardless of time frame? Does he not deserve to be happy with someone else just because he had the misfortune of losing his husband?

As for baggage, I think it's really only so if people allow it to be. Not to mention, it's also a little insconsiderate to say people without baggage have led "boring" lives. Again, it is a matter of perception and preference. People who do not have many sexual, social, or intimate encounters doesn't necessarily make them "boring."

This was what annoyed me alot infact. When I found out Kaidan would finally be a m/m option, I was estatic until he magically appeared safe and well on the forest moon of Endor without me. Not gonna lie, I was pretty bummed (pun not intended

But yeah the reason why I didn't choose Steve at first is because I felt like I/my Shep didn't really know him in the way that I knew Kaidan. Kaidan was there all through ME1, and for like five seconds in ME2, so I knew Kaidan more if that makes sense. When I eventually go another playthrough however, I'll try Steve. He was a decent guy after all.

And her romance is abreviated, the shortest and least developed of any of what I would call the main romances. She gets no date scene, she gets nothing off the Normandy; hell if you romance her you miss out on the chess sequence, which is brilliant!

So yeah...while I am very happy that you finally got your man and Steve is an amazing character, the sideling of the lesbian character does not sit well with me, at all.
