Sorry to ask again but I was never clear on some points.  You played ME1 romancing Ashley?  I wasn't sure if you modded an ME2 file to make ME3 think you romanced her or if you played through ME1&2 in full.  As I said a bit back, I could not find an ME1 save editor, only ME2 and it does not work with 360 ME1 saves.  I achieved it by ripping the files from within the save (player.sav, state.sav, WorldSavePackage.sav) and used a hex editor to change the way the other characters in the game see Shepard.  Sorry to ask again.

You can look up my earlier post for detailed instructions on how I did it but in short I did the following
- moved my xbox ME2 career to a usb stick
- used modio to open my carreer (back it up at this point)
- used gibbed ME2 save editor on an ME2 post end save to change my ME1 decisions to having romanced Ashley and removed the romance settings for Liara
- used modio to copy the new save back into my career
- copyed the career back to xbox HD
- play  through the game
- There is one gender flag check at the citadel cafe scene before you speak with Ashley use Gibbed's ME3 save game editor to change the isFemale flag to false.
- go through this scene with what will look like a huskified FemShep model (this kind of adds to the charm in a way because of the sacrifice my FemShep had to endure to win the love of her life)
- once that scene is done edit the save to set isFemale back to true.  To be sure double check that AshleyTrueLove is now set to true but if you did the dialog and everythign right it should be.- Now you can finish the game and enjoy a beautiful SS romance with an occasional voice change (thankfully it isn't too bad) and silent dialog.

Thanks for that.  What I am doing is playing ME1 itself with a male Shepard that the other characters are seeing as female which allows him to romance Kaidan.  It would be easy to do the same for a female Shep so Ashley sees her as male allowing the romance options.  I just have to ignore all the "ma'am"s and being referred to as "her" and "she", lol.  Finally being able to see Kaidan's proper storyline is worth it though.  I've also been told that when I finish ME1 and import into ME2, Shepard will be seen as male again so, whatever.

Well second playthrough finally completed and my like for this game just get lower.

Now I can understand if some straight players complain about they are ninjamanced by Kaidan. First in hospital they will get "are you flirting with me?" and their brother-in-arms suddenly turns to a gay. Then their Shep becomes gay by asking Kaidan if he flirts with him. What???? It's very short sighted act on Bioware's account.

Okay moving on let's say you are a gay player. Your Shep romances with Kaidan and trying to be friend to Steve. Then comes Purgatory scene where he mentions "eye-candy" in the crowd. Your Shep has two options to reply. One is where he questions Steve for not checking him out. Other is "I prefer ladies"... Sorry but I never ask that kind of question to someone I see as a friend.

Anyway second playthrough really gave me cold feet from ME3. With messages around saying how poorly Samantha romance is done I think my lesbian Shep will never leave Earth.

Huh?

You can say Shepard is eye candy (the first gateway dialogue), mention you've been waiting for the right man (second one) then decline Cortez's offer to dance (the third one). Cortez never asks Shepard about their sexuality; the ladies line is a response to Cortez talking about the hot menz in the crowd ("oh you like A, I'll be looking at B").

Even then, I think there's a fourth option to dance but decline any actual romance.

It's really easy to play as a gay character while not romancing Steve.

Hmm I think I better explain Steve situation going by my Shepard.

- Matt romances with Kaidan.
- Matt support Steve with paragon options or interrupts.
- Steve invites Matt to Purgatory for drink.
- Steve mentions eye candies in the crowd.
- Matt have two reply options.
a) Why not checking me out? or something similar to that which Steve acknowledges Kaidan romance and they settle for being friends. However asking someone why he ain't checking you out while you have a lover is weird... at least for me.
B) I prefer ladies. Whaaa? When did Matt turn into a bisexual? He has nothing to do with women.

Point... like many things in ME3 romances also lack careful design and clever writing. Diminishing conversation to 2 options wasn't  the brightest idea of devs.

Sometimes I wonder if anyone ever tested ME3 before they launch it. Maybe poor testers decided everything is okay with a game which has those endings and suicide after finishing the game once.

PS: Oh I found a conversation more than 2 options on right side but forget which one was that. Anyway after second playthrough ME3 feels like big ball of nonsense.

Liara's time capsule. That scene was kind of sad for me, when Glyph says "it will be my privilege to guide the future generations...". A little VI, left alone, for 50 000 years... So sad. M.

Ah thanks. That reminds me I had high hopes I will get Kaidan and Liara out of ship after ending as on my first playthrough I only invited Vega to my room. As this time I avoided any conversation with Vega only Liara and Samantha came to visit Shepard.

However it was Kaidan and Vega again. Why? Why I have to see that mutated ape after that traumatic ending on top of everything?

Hah! Also last night while watching after credit screen I found myself deciding which one is more horrible... A grandfather's telling to his grandson hot man on man action in detail or..

if we are seeing things from child's point of view, a kid's imagining those sex scenes... Jack renegade sex included. No wonder that brat asks for another story. Posted Image

It's the bolded stuff above that I can't stand.  I hate being called
"ma'am" on my ManShep, but to be able to romance Kaidan it *might* be
worth a whole ME1/2/3 playthrough that way sometime.  Maybe after they
release some 3 DLC content (and hopefully improve the ending so Kaidan
and my ManShep can find a nice bungalow in P-town to retire to ... [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/lol.png[/smilie]

I can't believe some technical genius out there hasn't found a way to fix this romance thing in ME1.  It's surprising.  Ah, well ...

Let us know when you get to ME2 if you can be a man again.

Not only is my Shep getting odd dialogue, my Shepard (male) has some female animations, adding to fact I am getting odd dialogue I think I my be expirencing a bug, but considering Kaidan is approaching me, ealier than he should be, it is a bug I can live with.

Yah, that immersion breaking stuff is what's hard for me to handle.  I think I may just have to stick with an ME1/2 playthrough where my Shep pines away for Kaidan quietly ... and gets his reward in ME3.  Although the cutscene in ME1 of Kaidan and Shep almost kissing next to the lockers *might* make it worth it all ... that's an awesomely done scene.

Yes, but I am playing on an unmodded game save. Maybe something happened on the import from ME1 to ME2 or perhaps something happened from importing ME2 to ME3. But immersion breaking is something I can handle, afterall I am a TW fan in CoE denial so I am use to discarding info that messes with my head-canon.

Are you talking about Mass Effect 3?

What kind of "bug" are you getting, Daashi? Comparing what I have with Kaidan and Ashley romanced Shep there wasn't much difference in their dialogues.

I am intending to go for lesser annoyance and ressurect Garrus for next Matt run (I can't stand Vega and EDI). I can easily flag his ME2 save as "Romanced Kaidan before ME2".

Hmmm, you aren't the first person to experience this.  Did you notice at the begining what the history of your Shepard was?  The other person that mentioned it in here said the game claimed he romanced Kaidan in ME1 which is why they had the weirdness.

Apparently there's lots of bugs in the game. Looks like they envied Bethesda so much that not only did they take their bad ending, they also decided to release a game with TONS of bugs. I just found out there's a whole bunch of dialogue in engineering that anyone who saved Kaidan over Ashley will never hear (with Ken/Gabby/Adams/Tali/Garrus) I'm sure they screwed up dialogue in other places too. -_-

Edit: Daashi :crying:  IAAAAAAANTO!

No romance before ME2
No romance in ME2

That is exactly what it said when I uploaded it. So the odd dialogue and odd animations seem to be bugs and glitches. So what, if Kaidan wants to make a move on my male Shepard before he was suppose to he is more than welcome to.

Hehe, true, but I *think* the other person that had a similar problem (sorry I don't remember who it was) had trouble when they got to the date scene.  They got the "brothers" talk.

Shepard: "So how do we fix it?"

Kaidan: "I'll admit, I own a lot of that.  you were standing right in front of me, and I was… I hut you down. I'm sorry."

Shepard: "Okay."

Kaidan: "Okay. So, let's just put it behind us and get on with what's important right now."

Shepard: "Bury it?"

Kaidan: "Bury it. Forgive it… I think that's how we get past Horizon."

I take it that this dialogue isn't what you were referring to?  Because I didn't get lines about wanting more than a friendship.

Same conversation with my un romanced Shepard also.

However I know Shep saves from ME1 have several numeric variables for romances. I know 4 is for romanced but on some saves Ashley have 5 or Kaidan have 6, while sometimes it is 2 or 3. I don't know if those means something.

Maybe it is related to that.

Renegade Shepard, no romance (I think) since I broke with Liara before talking to him, bought the whiskey, and I had this dialogue. I probably asked about his biotics before Horizon (if that matters, I didn't get the "are you flirting" line".

Usually in the ME saves I saw a value of 6 for romanced characters and 3 for the others.
I might just mod a ME2 save and try to set something like 4 or more and see what happens. I think renegade Shepards maybe start with a lower affection value starting from ME1.
I'll go check now my paragon Shepard (value 3 though), completely unromanced, what lines gets there, trying to ask about Horizon before biotics.

goodventure wrote...

I watched Dana's video for modded ManShep romance with Kaidan in ME1 (link: http://www.youtube.com/watch), and Kaidan does say this line in response to being asked about how to get past Horizon:

Kaidan: "I'd like to Shepard. As friends... as more than friends.  I mean, I don't know, I just like having you in my life."

...
if you got this line without modding ManShep, I'll be slightly
surprised, because I believe that is for romanced ME1 Kaidan, or at
least a FemShep.  Did you give him the whiskey for this conversation?

I'm going to test out my 360 Shepard, but he romanced Liara in ME1.

I can confirm I got this line with a Paragon femShep who romanced Kaidan and was loyal to him in ME2.

For my Paragon Shepard order of topics doesn't matter.

I went all renegade on Ashley with Ashley romanced MaleShep during Mars (don't have a heart to do that to Kaidan). She mentioned being mean to her during Mars and Horizon but they continue their romance.

4 for ME 1 imports means you romanced with that character. Also don't forget to paint flag for that romance. Maybe this is the reason for glitches on some saves.

For Paragon Shepard whiskey and biotics is enough. You can either have date with him before mail (to me which makes more sense than in game logical order) or wait for it.

Logical order of Kaidan romance is Hospital visits > Invite to Normandy > Cerberus Scientists > Mail > Date... at least for me it is.  I tend to save on same file or not save at all on earlier stages of game but will check my last run and see if I have a save before hospital visit so I can try talking with Kaidan without whiskey and get "flirt" line.

Haha, yea no kidding.  I don't think Mass Effect was set up to be mod friendly though.  I never looked at the PC files when I had it installed but looking at the ripped 360 files, the structure is *nothing* like DAO and DA2, which are very similar to the PC files on the 360 and PS3.  Hell, all I had to do to use the DA2 PC mods on the PS3 was add an "override" folder in the packages directory.

Blasto 6 was hillarious but I too have no desire to see images of Elcor/Hanar sex in my mind.  The way the Hanar are designed, I have scary images of tenticle sex from Legend of the Overfiend or something.

Garrus romance in ME3 is probably 2nd biggest after Liara's, but i could never romance him even if he was available for mShep, he's way too alien for me. I'm happy with what we got, our 2 m/m romances are good and among the most developed of all ME3 romances. Compared to Tali, Samantha, Diana, and of course all ME2 romances, we're lucky
