The Samantha "romance" scene seems like nothing but straight guy ****** material to me. Surely they could have done something a bit more tasteful. If my sister or her girlfriend had any interest in games I'd ask her opinion of it. That's sure how I viewed it though.
Creepy part is not shower action part. The part where Shep watches Sam in shower. It is just wrong and makes romance word cheap.
By the way I use that awful dress for my Shep's causal attire. It causes some hilarious scenes by the way female Shep sits in that dress. Thane conversation on hospital and Captain Oraka conversation comes to my mind atm.

Yes, the Samantha romance is flawed and begins a little awkward, but it's starting to annoy me, that it gets always reduced to the shower scene, because the later stages are really beautiful and hardly any other video game romance has felt so real to me in the end and words like "horrible" doesn't really do it justice.
I have written a larger post with my opinion about the character and romance the other day in the character support thread.
Kaidan romance also has its flaws but I love it and I think it is the best M/M option Bioware done to date (even with m/m exclusive option Steve and re-used female/male conversations in Kaidan romance).
I agree, it's very well done. I wish it had occured in ME1 now, though, even more ... so much potential lost there story-wise. I know people have done the female-to-male modding on ME1 to romance Kaidan on MShep, but has anyone here played it all the way through 1, 2, & 3? Does it work?
I do wish there was more of it (generally, all romances, not just Kaidan/MShep). I take Kaidan with me on every mission (which, again, makes me wish you could get him earlier), and I'm a little surprised at the lack of response to things from him, like when MShep's life is in danger. There's never a "Shepard!" moment, which surprises me 'cause Bioware's eye for detail is so fun in other ways (like the random convos between NPCs, etc.).
And I still lament the lack of a scene between the dinner date and final intimacy scene. Hopefully a DLC will fix that.

I was reminded how much Bioware spoils us while I was playing Final Fantasy XIII-2. In that game you are given the illusion of dialogue choices but they literally amount to nothing more than one sentence. I decided that Snow was acting like a jerk and wanted to get Serah together with Noel and it's just not possible, at all!
So yeah, I'd like to see more RPG developers take some lessons from Bioware in that aspect.

ME1 modding works for ME2 on Horizon. I don't know how it will pass to ME3. However I will start another run with Matt's save which I flagged as romanced with Kaidan on ME1.
One thing I heard about that modded saves is you get friendship talk instead of normal date scene from Kaidan. That can be result of another romance in between tho'. My female shep got friendship scene last night but she already started Samantha romance before the date.

To paraphrase Shepard himself, we'll never know what we missed. I am enjoying finally getting the full Kaidan character in my modded 360 ME1 game though so it makes up for it a little bit. A proper m/m trilogy romance would have been awesome but.... at least we finally have it, officially. I am very anxious to finish ME1 so I can see so it affects ME2. If a ME2 save mod works though I don't see why an actual save where you played through the game romancing him would not work the same as the PC version. I am mostly qurious to see if A) Shep regains his manliness in the eyes of others and

will always think back fondly of the first time I romanced Alistair...
That is some of the best romance fiction in any game ever.
I will never ever forget the first time I played DAO and it's thanks to Alistair. Although it was the 360 version, I fell so in love with that guy! I didn't think I could ever think that way about a game character but BioWare's amazing writing made it so easy and natural. I was so glad when I finally played the PC version and romanced him, such an amazing game. I felt so guilty cheating on my man with Morrigan at the end
Then it happened with DA2 and again with ME3 so yea, I love BioWare
I was actually a bit shocked the second time I played DAO and discovered the conversation with Darian (something like that, I probably have it wrong) in the library which led to the "come back to my room" line. What shocked me was that Couslands brother (Fergis? I can't remember his name!) told me "He better be good enough for my little brother", I was stocked that they actually put something like that in the game. Oh and, poor Darian...
The thing with Alistair though is that even playing as a male character unable to romance him, you still got the full character, unlike Kaidan in ME1. I think it was incredibly shortsighted of the ME team to make him (and probably Ash for females) in that way. I liked Kaidan in ME1 but it was never more than thinking he was a decent character because I never got to know him. It was only when I replayed the game last year with the knowledge that he might be available for male Shepards in ME3 that I paid more attention to him.

I understand what you mean completely. It not only makes the romance scene seem cheap but also femShep. Makes her seem like a bit of a creep and a perv. Kind of like the "get into bed" or whatever it was the renegade option to Sam for mShep seemed a bit creepy and pervy to me. I didn't use it of course but the way it was worded was a bit "yuck"

No. Ash for FemShep had full set of conversations in ME1. Kaidan for ManShep however lacked post-Eden Prime dialogue unfortunately, he was the only character you had to wait hours to have a chance to talk the first time (as mShep).
Ugh, that's even more pathetic then. That makes me quite annoyed too.

Hmm in sense you are right, he is bit out of place. Talking about his dead hubby and not having actuall interaction other than that matter, kinda puts him in out of place position.
Probably it is just me tho', I feel more connected with Kaidan, only with his Mars conversations (even without playing ME1). While some people thinks his questioning is annoying, I see it as a token of his deep interest for Shepard.
Steve doesn't make Shepard feel special, even he makes him feel like first available body to erase last reminders of his dead husband. Thus it always remind me those lyrics:
"Something new that is all it was
You know
But when you need someone any love will do
Sad but true"
I appreciate Bioware's good intentions with putting a gay character in game but I don't participate.

Yah, I'm glad, too, but it still feels bittersweet ... so annoying that they caved on it for ME1. I wish someone would go back (Lucas-like) and redo the series someday and fix all that.

Greater reason for remaking series can be play style. After action paced style of ME3, even ME2 feels dull during combat. Still I think SP warp/incernate works differently than MP or ME2 versions. They simply doesn't hit your target if it moves (no dodge, it even misses moving cannibals).

Yah, I agree again. When I go back and replay (and I know I will someday soon), I'll miss the flipping and jumping, I actually kinda enjoyed that! Feels very SpecOps Spectre-bad-arse.

Not to mention the horrible framrate problems, crappy textures and texture popin in the 360 version <_<
Even though I only finished that second "gay" run of ME1 in January, playing it again now after a month of ME3 (demo plus retail), it feels so alien and it hard to get used to again. ME2 just feels slugish in comaprison which is funny because it was such a step up from ME1 for me at the time it was released. I'd love to have the whole series play like ME3 because I find the combat incredibly fun but I am sure there are some people that would hate it. As long as they kept the RPG aspects identical, I don't see that it should be a problem personally.

Say what you want about ME3's story, I don't see how anyone can say the gameplay isn't a major improvement over ME2 (which was a major improvement over ME1).

Remaking Mass Effect I love that idea and would love to see it happen. But personally if they did it now, all it would be is a action-adventure game with a large over-the-shoulder shooter element and a extremely mild RPG element.
I love the original even with all of it flaws, from the Mako and it's bad handling to the credit cap and the clunky inventory screen (seriously I have yet to play a RPG that didn't have problems with it's inventory).
And BTW who the hell looked at ME3's overhaul of the journal, it sucks, your quests don't get updated, there is no distinction between the main and side quests. And don't get me started on the "new and improved" scanning system. And why don't I get target assistance option in ME3, I suck at shooter games, it is why I don't play them and why I don't buy them.
I love the fact that we can finally have a homosexual relationship as a male character, I love how there is two same-sex LIs for both the male and female Shepard. I am loving the story (well the majority of it, not the ending). But what ME3 did good doesn't seem to make-up for what it did wrong.

But it was never shown and if one of the squadmates was piloting Kodiak, it made no difference to the story nor did Shep communicated with them in anyway. Feels just empty, it's as if there was no Joker and they just explained "ohh just one of the unused squadmates pilots Normandy". Yeah no. Steve should've been in ME franchise since ME2 when they introduced the Kodiak for most transportAsperius wrote...

His voice actor is seriously great.
There's one point at the bar, I believe it's when you can choose between 'waiting for the right man' or woman, the expression on Shep's face is incredibly intense. It looks as if he's ready to either jump Cortez and have sex right on the bar, or maybe beat the crap out of him. You might not notice it if you answer too quickly, because the camera moves to a different angle sometimes if you wait on a dialogue option.
And the guy on the dance floor, the "eye-candy" guy, is kinda creepy if you pay attention before talking to Steve. He's just standing on the dance floor, not really dancing, constantly staring at Steve.
Edit: Also, people were complaining about being ninjamanced by Steve? Really? Even if you get to the point that you dance together, there's still an optioin to just stay friends!
