Hey guys, I don't know if this has been asked before, but last time I played through Kaidan's s/s romance I notice something weird. The " You plan a career, you focus, and suddenly the world is ending and there's no time to find someone..."  line in Kaidan's date scene. Does it mean he's settling for Shepard because he's got no time to find another person? Or is he refering to Shepard being focused in his work in the past games?

I mean, I thought it was the latter but after playing through femshep's, it seems the line is focused in what Kaidan thinks himself. It doesn't make sense, since throughout the romace it felt like Kaidan was more into Shepard, than Shepard into him, at least until the goodbye scene. Could someone clarify this to me, please? I'm not a native speaker and I might have gotten the line wrong. Thanks.

In the next line he makes it clear he just didn't realize what he wanted/who he was looking for was mShep so he ain't "settling" on mShep to me

Ah! maybe I was just focusing too much on that line then, I thought it was a separate one because of Shepard's interrupt. So he's just awkwardly beating around the bush... more typical of him.:P
Now it makes more sense, thank you!!

based on spicyshimmy's tumblr post about Kaidan and Shepard exchaning dogtags before heading into battle ...
now I'm back to crying when thinking about the endings (well, two of themthe third would make this image non-canon)

Awww, don't worry man....give it a week...or mabye 2 and the endings will feel less raw.  When I finished the game I was so depressed that my immune system practically surrendered to the cold I was waging war on (and winning previously)...finally over the damn thing (and the endings).

oh, don't get me wrong, I was a miserable puddle of sadness and tears after the endings (I reloaded and replayed all three in a row - 3 hours of crying, my eyes still hurt the next morning), and I had this feeling in my tummy for at least another day. Then came a phase where people got together to get a better ending and the usual replies from BioWare: 'thanks for your feedback', 'this *is* the ending - it's artsy' and 'cool stuff coming, wish you'd know what I know' etc. and somewhere between all of these I just didn't know what to think anymore and I felt a certain numbness towards the ending - not the game, I replayed it and ... killed Mordin and Kaidan the same day, don't do that, it's bad for your karma :crying: - stupid renegade playthrough, but when I replayed the ending with the indoc-theory in mind, I felt nothing ... well, nothing compared to the emotional outburst the first time.
So right now, I'm glad I'm back to feeling about the endings actually, it's part of what I actually did like about them and something I give BioWare major kudos for, the impact they had on me as the player - if you leave the illogical stuff and consequences aside for a moment.

It's basically like the moment in 'The Emperor's New Groove' when Kuzco and Pacha try to find the right magical potion to turn Kuzca back into a human and one of them just turns him back into a lama after he's been turned into a few other animals and he's like "yay! I'm a lama again!" *then* realizing that he's still not human
So yeah, I'm glad I can feel about the endings, but I hope we get something that just wraps things up without bringing about more destruction than the Reapers would have caused <_<

and to get back to the theme of this thread, ideally I want my Shepard and Kaidan to spend more time together.

^Agreed. That and more romance banter/Autodialog. He's always saying: we talk later, not now Shepard, I'm bussy and stuff. Annoying.

I WISH he'd say something like 'not now Shepard, I have a headache', what you read into it is up to you, but given that he's still doing the 'migrane'-pose/movement*, I would have loved that

*most notably when entering the base on Mars and my mind went "Shepard, causing Kaidan migranes the moment they meet"

If anything, it looks like they didn't care about Ashley. She remains a romantic interest for m!Shepard, but got barely any interaction with female Shepard. Some poster child for the series, huh?

Is this true? That's disappointing. I got a nice chunk of interaction with Kaidan even though my m!Shep didn't romance him, and I was hoping for the same with Ashley during my fem!Shep run. I like Ashley, but I don't want to have to romance her to get most of her content. That was the most annoying thing to me in ME2 and after playing through ME3 I thought they fixed that, but I guess not.

I know this might have been asked before but I can't find it. Can you still get Cortez even if you romanced Ashley in 1 and slept with almost everyone in 2? This is my only save without Kaidan and I can't seem to say no to him.

I don't see why you couldn't. Just don't start a relationship with anyone before him. Break up with anyone else when the opportunity presents itself. Well, I think Miranda gets murdered if you break up with her, but you can still start a relationship with someone else later, without breaking up with her, and it won't matter.

Yes you can leave any invite to your cabin combo after locked in a romance. I just did that on my last modded run. It wasn't intentional, invite to cabin request mails came after Kaidan date.

No she doesn't mention your LI. If you consider on that run Kaidan was my LI since ME1, she even didn't mention him. I also get "You won't purpose me marriage now?" line from Garrus without any mention of LI.

If you don't lock yourself in a romance in ME3, you can start a new one. Romance locking(confirming) conversations are the ones invite you to Citadel. However that will have consequences with other past LIs and if you want to reach Shep alive ending, you might need to work harder.

I remember someone saying in a poll or in some polls Kaidan was first pick for s/s romance.  It is kinda unfortunate. Maybe I am assuming wrong , correct me if I am wrong about that one, but avarage gaming communities goes like this: Straight Male > Gay Male > Straight Female > Lesbian Female. So as long as they keep player feedback a reason for romances, lesbians will always have shortest straw. Unless guys like us add our  voices to them.

It's all about proportions. Depending on who you listen to, homosexual people make up somewhere between 1 and 10 percent of the entire population of the world (I'm unsure if this includes bisexual people as well, but lets say it does for the purposes of this argument). That means gay males make up less than 10% of the overall population of male gamers. However, they are probably overrepresented in the group, since they're overrepresented in other groups that are traditionally well represented in gaming circles (intelligent, higher wealth, etc), but even so, proportionally there'd be less gay male than straight female gamers.

Of course, I'm no expert on these things. I am just going by what I have read over the years, and my own experience. Anecdotally, I've encountered more biseuxal and lesbian gamers than I have gay male gamers, and I identify as lesbian myself.

Maybe if there was separated thread about f/f romances, our voices wouldn't become invisible, as it occured here.

I hate the idea of seggregation. Just putting that out there first, in order to give some context to what I'm about to say.

YES. I have noticed that f/f discussion seems to taper off after a couple of posts, while the Sheptez and Shepdan conversations keep going. There are more gay Shepard fans here than there are lesbian Shepard fans, and it's quite off putting to have to scroll through pages of m/m discussion when that's really not what you're wanting to read about.

This is not meant as a criticism of anyone, it is an observation. I'd have been trying to contribute more to the f/f discussions, but I'm kind of busy with law school at the moment. (Speaking of which, I am now running late!! *dashes off without extensive editing* sorry if I trod on anyone's toes in my haste!!)

Yah, that's another something I don't like about the romances.  They don't seem to acknowledged by anyone, really.  Liara has some good looks in Shep's direction in regards to Kaidan.  For example, after Kaidan's idea on Mars (and the whole "What?" "The major has become ..." and then again after he's hurt and Shep is staring at his wounded self ... but that happens regardless of whether or not K's an LI.  The only person I can remember who mentions that Shep/Kaidan (for example) are LIs is a generic "human soldier" comment from the Prothean.  Kinda sad, since Liara, Garrus, and Tali have known that you (as Shep) and Kaidan/Ashley have been friend(ly)(s) since ME1.   A missed opportunity, imho ...

So after the game apparently you can get an email from Kaidan if you have the datapad app from itunes. I didn't have my iphone when I finished the game so I never got it but I guess it goes something along the lines of "I tried to get them to let me see you" or something. This is after the game ends. >.> There may yet be hope. Or more wishful thinking. :(

Trying stupid hard to go through it again with Steve to see what he emails you now that I have my phone. :/ it's proving to be quite difficult. If I get around to it I'll type out all the messages here since I know some people won't have a stupid iwhatever. :/ I only caved because all the good stuff is on it. <_<

Not sure if there are less lesbian Shepard fans on forum, since just by watching Liara thread it looks like the majority of it's contributors are fans of femShep/Liara.
But indeed most of them don't speak on this thread. Propably a fact that almost all discussions here are about Kaidan and Cortez, and before were about Kaidan and m/m in general, has something to do with it.

Wasn't speaking about segregation, just that if there were two threads, our voices would be more visible. I would still defend m/m options as well, as I did before. Hopefully, guys would do the same about f/f options.

I wonder if there will be a chance to expand the romances in the DLCs. I do not think that there will be "romance" DLCs but maybe something like the DA2 DLCs that allowed the relationship to influence the conversations and party banter during the game. I could also see LotSB style DLCs that allow the ME2 romances to be squad mates and continue the romance.

I have not had the heart to play my Jacob romancing Shepard yet. My male Shepard has been inspecting Cortez' range and flexibility and Kaidan is getting both kinds of snuggle-bunnies.

I was wondering that too. If they will expand on the romances in the DLC. I don't quite understand how Kaiden can be a gay option but Ashley cannot. My femshep may be 100% Liara, but she'd like to keep her options open.

It is only natural that m/m dominates here since until ME3 there was no real m/m romance. I am a straight woman (boy did we get screwed this game) but I have noticed while m/m romances are regularly blasted with hate the lesbian romances seem to only get attacked when lumped with the m/m romances as some overall "gay agenda."

Liara's thread seemes pretty open to s/s LIs so their fans do not need to seek refuge here like the Ashley and Tali s/s fans have (though not often sadly).

I AM curious to see this "very interesting" gameplay data that Gaider said Bioware got on DA2's romances. If the romance choices in ME3 are anything to go by RPG fans seem to rank (in terms of numbers):

1) "Straight" male heroes.
2) "Gay" male heroes.
3) "Gay" female heroes.
4) "Straight" female heroes.

Sadly it would probably be EXPANDED LI content and not NEW LI content. Not that I would mind romancing Vega from both directions.

I've completed Ashley FemShep on a modded save file. They did have some friendship path but it was just not very developed. The romance path doesn't really have that much more before the actual love scenes either. I'm now playing Kaiden + FemShep and I am kind of sad about how similar the dialog is.

After seeing this it is pretty silly that they didn't do Ashley same sex. It would have required a fairly minimal amount of work (e.g. recording something like 10 lines of dialog and shifting the model slightly during the kissing scenes.

I do not do the f/f romances usually but I agree that it is silly Ashley is not available since she would require less of a "retcon" than Kaidan. And "religious" is not an excuse since you do not have to be religious to believe in God and religious people can have s/s relationships. My brother-in-law's Rabbi is a lesbian.
