Media should not promote nor pander to unhealthy people.

Having one "fat" character is hardly promoting or pandering.

I guess it's ok if they make the character evil to show that it's not the kind of person you should be.

So....open to same sex romances but not fat people? Interesting.

Asari are space-elves, and elves never get fat.

It's not really difficult to imagine that there are no fat people in the Mass Effect Universe since people almost never eat. Why would you ever want fat people to begin with? All those problems should have been fixed by that time.

Comparing which gender someone is attracted to with an unhealthy person who lacks self control to stop eating and motivation to get off their ass and exercise?

Interesting.

Because skinny people are always healthier. Duh. Their metabolisms can handle anything! They're SKINNY! Asari are only supposed to be gorgeous [skinny] blue women admired for their breasticles/hips/headtentacles.

And besides, people ALWAYS have a choice as to whether they're skinny or not. It's got nothing to do with genes or stress or disorders or anything along those lines, no. Not at all, NEVER. Space McDonalds is the only reason.

I want to see a fat Hanar in ME3.
Blasto out of shape.

Wondering if he could levitate anyway.

Oh well I'm sure the millions of people who are fat because of medicine, disease and whatnot are overjoyed to hear that someone like yourself think so. How about reading a book? I hear it's good for you.

Not even all earth species are capable of getting "fat". Jellyfish sure as heck can't. Indeed only a limited number of creatures can put on the sort of huge fat reserves that humans do. So I'd be extremely surprised if most other races could even get fat in a normal sense.

Krogans, they've got a hump, and I'm sure that hump can get bigger, as it's like a camel's hump, to store fat and fluid and so on, but I doubt they can get fat-fat.

Salarians are basically high-metabolism, vague amphibian creatures. Extremely unlikely that they can put on significant weight in the form of fat.

Volus are tubby little things, but without knowing much about their biology, speculation is impossible.

Turians have an exoskeleton in large parts of their body. They probably can't get fat at all.

Quarians, well, hard to speculate until that suit comes off. Maybe, maybe not.

Which brings us to everyone's favourite blue-skinned space elves. There's no reason to assume that they can get fat. Assuming that just shows an ignorance of biology. Especially as it seems like they might have been genetically engineered in the first place (visiting their homeworld may clear that one up). It's not impossible that they could get fat, but it's ridiculous to assume it.

So no, a fat Asari wouldn't prove no pandering. I mean, heck, maybe you're just pandering to a whole different crowd of pervs (the BBW crowd!).

Having only one fat person is just as bad as no Turian or Salarian females.

Right. They should totally do that to the m/m and f/f options too.

Yea, that's definitely the case with every fat person in the world.

There is a fat-as$ gene....? How will gene therapy help people NOT get fat......i guess they can use their omni-tool to give themselves a mini liposuction....

While there isn't a 'fat gene', I'm sure one could use gene therapy to increase the efficiency of one's cells. Make everyone the sort of person who can eat nearly anything and not get fat -- people with a really good metabolism.

(Not even going to get into the trolling about how fat people should be evil and other stupidity.)

Yeah yeah yeah, every fat person has something to blame except themselves.

How about reading a book? I hear it's good for you.

I have a book you should read.

I thought someone (was it Chris? Probably) said they weren't actually preggers. Just fat (well belly heavy).

...Seems like we'll be getting fat asari (husks) after all! :wizard:

It's not because it's the future, it's not because it's in space, it's not because of genetic manipulation... it's because models cost resources to make...

For gameplay and budget purposes, they make 1 default model and they stick with it.

That's why like everybody in ME has almost the same height and all the guys that actually fight have 2 arms and 2 legs... for budget purposes, because they'll have to make multiple model skeletons and different sets of animations for all of those skeletons.

It's for gameplay... lore-wise, it may be considered that there are indeed fat asaris...

Though, why do you think asari function that much like humans, anyway? For all we know, asari might not deposit energy as fat... they might deposit it as breast tissue.

Don't have much a sense of humor on you, huh?;)

Lol, I'm not talking about a "Fat gene" but rather using gene therapy to speed up people's metabolic rate, or adjusting even stomach capacity, Just shooting in the dark here

Increased metabolism is the easiest way. Also things like altering the amount of food stored in the organs, an increased digestive rate, and many many other genetic options can lower obesity to non existance.

Being fat is a combination of laziness, genetic failure, and a way of life. Like someone else said, not everyone is fat because they're lazy, things like diabetes force people to consciously consume more food than they know is healthy for them.

Fat asari don't exist. They're enlightened enough to eat mostly vegetables and unprocessed foods, and also exercise.

Right. I'm going to try the biological approach, then, and ignore the absolute bashing of people who might have something like lupus or other MOVEMENT DISABILITIES which, shock and awe, means they impede movement. ZOMG. RLY?

If any of these species have needed to survive, at any point in their evolutionary history, on very variable amounts of food, their bodies would've learned to store fat. That's what fat is, biologically speaking: it's the store of carbohydrates so that there's energy to keep going if food gets scarce. In modern times, that's no longer as necessary, so you have a biological function that, when not maintained for whatever reason, works against us.

By the way, how much fat you do or don't have has no bearing on how much cholesterol is clogging up your arteries. That's why twigs still get heart attacks. Your weight, until a certain point, doesn't say anything about your health.

The krogan might do the camel-like storage; salarians might work through and process everything faster. Asari, however, function like human females... who have fat stores in hips and thighs and just about everywhere else because that's part of the bearing children thing. There is zero reason why they shouldn't have weight gain.

Let's touch on the economic diversity, too: Artificially produced products are cheaper than organic ones. Artificially produced products are also of poor, unhealthy quality. But if you barely have a roof over your head, you can't really afford to be picky.

You know what, where are the old asari? When do they start aging? They live a long time, but not forever. Let's see one of those.

Age would also affect fat stores.
