Lol, I'm not talking about a "Fat gene" but rather using gene therapy to speed up people's metabolic rate, or adjusting even stomach capacity, Just shooting in the dark here
Looking at the lifespan of an average Asari, they must have a very slow metabolism. Maybe they hardly eat anything.
Anyway, artificially speeding up the metabolic rate is dangerous when there isn't enough food around. Imagine starving in a traffic jam on the way to work or while waiting in line at the register.
The reason for nobody being fat in ME is either high tech food or developers complacency.

Thread is stupid, and there are two answers to the question.
1) Realistic-bioware guys are just lazy. They only have 1 mesh for 1 race/gender combination.
2) Fluff-wise-Asari just perform a good ol' brainf*** and -voila- we get bodies that appeal to cmdr Shepard's libido.
btw, asari are just your tentacle monsters anyway. Tentacle monster with brainf*** ability., which is so strong, that it works even through mass media/magazines. And yes, all of this was written in ME1 codex.

Well there is the preggo asari husks...
I thought someone (was it Chris? Probably) said they weren't actually preggers. Just fat (well belly heavy).
...Seems like we'll be getting fat asari (husks) after all!
This is actually an excellent idea. Excellent analogy of the real life fat husks walking around.

Increased metabolism is the easiest way. Also things like altering the amount of food stored in the organs, an increased digestive rate, and many many other genetic options can lower obesity to non existance.ramnozack wrote...
There is a fat-as$ gene....? How will gene therapy help people NOT get fat......i guess they can use their omni-tool to give themselves a mini liposuction....
Being fat is a combination of laziness, genetic failure, and a way of life. Like someone else said, not everyone is fat because they're lazy, things like diabetes force people to consciously consume more food than they know is healthy for them.
Might also be a combination of working 40-70 hours per week with 1-4 children/spouse to take care off.
There's also money and the place you live.Hiking/jogging or doing sport in a overpopulated and poluated city don't appeal to everyone .Working out cost money and time and some people are missing one of em or both.
There's also the case of menopause , depression , middle age crisis , aging and just stopping smoking. There's also different illness(be it mental or physical) .
But of course 'overweight' ppl are lazy.Just like the homeless are a pest.We should exterminate them with a stick . it's seem to be a popular sport in USA.

In asari space, obesity is punishable by death. Also, the justicar code compels any justicar to seek and root out obesity among their species. It's right up there with mass murder, followed by violation of cleavage regulations.
