Why do you think a lot of ME fans aren't too fond of Jack? What is it about her that makes you like her over other characters?

I think that is has to do always with her apperance ... tatoos, had shave, she throws out a hard as nails vide with some people find of putting in female character. Yet the Irony is that they say the Fem Shep, Ashely and Miranda are too feminine there fore they are nothing but blow up dolls because the where their hair down and have breast and hips and dare to ware make up. Yet you have a character her in Jack who is the complete opposite and is yet attractive and troubled but she get crap because of her look.. Honetly i think it because of not know what they hell want..
Side note: I personally had issues with Jack's romance because from what i have watch it come off as Shepard having the magic stick to fix all problems. I would much like a friendship path for Jack and everyone else.
Ironicall A JRPG Persona 3 &4 has better relationships than Mass Effect, I think romance in Mass Effect handeled terriblely.

While I like Jack's romance, I'm glad that there's going to be a friendship path in ME3. Not all of my Shepards romance Jack, and I'd really like the chance to be her friend.

My husband says it's the lack of hair and boobs. Personally, I think most are put off by her agressive/vulgar attitude from the getgo. In real life, from an instinct fight-or-flight point of view, a woman like Jack would make anyone look down at their feet in fright and hurry as far away from her as possible. That's what she wants, to keep people away from her -- that way she has less of a chance of getting hurt (both physically and mentally).
Once you dig past that strong exterior, you see the vulnerable, human side she desperately tries to hide. That's what made me like her; even through all of her hardships she's a survivor and shows growth and a willingness to push through her suffering. Meeting Shepard, plus dealing with her past on Pragia and fighting the Collectors (in order to save human lives) has made her go through a shift of consciousness. She's ready to climb out of her lifelong rutt.
Through the completion of the suicide mission, she shows that she's able to care for other people besides herself and that -- in the end -- she's able of compassion and altruism.
Withough knowing it herself, Jack is an old soul.
That's my take on it.

I think this. The two sides of it is one the look, a lot of guys are probably put off by her not looking feminine, having a shaved head, tattoos etc. And the other side is the fact that she's harder to get through to. She's not friendly at first but once you get through to her she shows a different side to her character at the end of the romance. Which is why I like her character. She doesn't let people get close to her because she's afraid of getting hurt again but once you can get through to her it makes it worth it. I think this most of all the conflict in the character is what makes her one of the most interesting characters to me.

Medical Bay
Jack: Is he gonna be alright?
Chakwas: He just cracked a few ribs, he'll be fine in a few days. For right now the painkillers should help with the soreness.
Shepard: (out of it) Hey Jack.
Jack: Hey yourself.
Shepard: Why am I in the medbay?
Jack: You got your ass handed to you by one of those Asari husks there bossman. Doc patched you up.
Shepard: Okay. Hey Jack?
Jack: Yeah?
Shepard: You have really pretty eyes.
Jack: (rolls eyes) Y'know any other day I'd have to punch you for that, but seeing that your stoned off your ass I'll let it slide.

I get why people say Jack should be friended and not romanced. I just don't agree! Yeah, she's at a crossroads where she's overcoming something big in her life. But, she's a big girl. She can handle it, IMO. I think that if two sides have mutual respect/trust, both of which are established well between Shepard and Jack in her romance path, then they will find a way to make it work.

I'm one of those people that keep their first playthrus
I ****ed up with Jack. I did the Renegade sex before Horizon and after her LM she kept telling me to stop screwing around. But I was already gunning for Miranda so it wasn't a total loss. I was lucky I heard some people can't even talk to her if Rensex her after her LM.

Agreed, especially since Jack doesn't need a lover or a friend, what she needs is someone who'll be there for her and patient enough to want to understand her, since she's fragile once she lets anyone get close enough to her. So whatever that person is, friend, lover, or simply someone who's there, as long as they can fill that niche I think that's all she really wants.
If she goes far enough to trust someone enough to talk about her person, she doesn't do so lightly and the number of people who would be privy to that show of honesty are likely to be a small number if it stretches beyond Shepard.
Take this for example:
Now compare that to any of the other LI's stating their "jealousy." Its just that, jealousy, but for Jack it's betrayal.
I honestly think that's why a lot of people don't automatically fall in love with her, her life has led her to be complicated and sensitive in a way she's probably not aware of all the time. You add that along with an attitude that isn't humbled by your mere presence and an appearance that a stark contrast to conventional looks and you get a great character that gets marginalized.
Truly a shame.

I too would've vastly preferred a non-romance Jack. A friendship is what she needs more. Also, Jack could've used her tortured childhood to become a great woman, but she decided to hide behind it instead. Kind of a waste there.
I hope we get to see Jack in ME3.
You can befriend Jack.
And if she just used her past as motivation and was a "stronger" person wouldn't she just be Ashley? The way she deals with things is part of her character.

I concur with this. You could definitely pull it off.
As far as why some people dislike Jack, I really can't answer that. It's like anything else--everyone has their reasons for liking/disliking someone and they can't necessarily be explained in general. I can, however, explain what appeals to me about Jack. Well, there's lots of reasons. First of all, she's tough, and I guess I'm just a stickler for tough chicks. Plus, she's unquestionably the most complex, many-layered and, I should probably say, 'difficult' character in ME2, and ME in general. Her romance is proof of that. All the other characters, it just comes about with no real twists and turns. With Jack, at several points in pursuing a romance with her she tells you to **** off, questions what your intentions are in this [because in her experience Shepard just can't be trying to get close to her just because he wants to get to know her], and admits that she's confused by the fact that he is...well, the way he is [assuming you go paragon] unlike many of the other people she came to trust previously.
That level of depth to her character appealed to me. I also liked the shaved head and the tattoos--the weird strap thing she wore, not so much [seriously, is there ANYONE who liked the strap thing?] I would've been completely smitten if she had some sort of outfit equivalent to a modern day punk/metalhead--ie, a leather jacket instead of a pair of straps that marginally cover her breasts. At least the outfit you unlock by doing her loyalty mission isn't that bad.
I've heard 'em say they're giving her a more mature personality--and hair--in ME3. Which I am a bit ambivalent about. They could either improve her as a character with this, or just completely wreck her character. On one hand, 'more mature' for Jack is a REALLY wide statement--she could still be as punky and tough as ever (and that's what matters to me) but not as liberal with her 'kill kill kill destroy destroy destroy torture torture torture DIE' thing. As far as the hair, as long as it's not some kind of girly hairdo thing going. I could be on for something like a mohawk, or dreadlocks [crust punk Jack? holy****yes], or even really short hair [something like this I would be completely for]. Now if they make her significantly more feminine, in personality or appearance...then I will be irate :v
EDIT: Also. I feel the need to note that if Jack is not a permanent member of the squad in ME3, I will friggin'...I can't even.
I just.
I can't.
Also, since I saw talk of Jack's 'theme song' (or songs that would match with Jack). The first thing that came to mind for me, lyrics-wise and music-wise, was Death's 'Empty Words'. Or Nasum's 'The Professional League', Carcass' 'Buried Dreams', or 'No Love Lost' by the same artist. Lyrics for respective songs here, here, here, and here.

Pretty sure it's supposed to end that way. I have one career where I did that, post-LM, and it just ends with her saying "you're just pissing around; no hard feelings, but I don't wanna play."
Sadly, its pretty much the same way it ends for femshep if you exhaust her dialogue (I say "sadly" because one of my femsheps and her should have had a serious bromance going on, this was an anti-Cerberus renegade).
