As the shuttle approached the space port, Jack gazed out the window and the surrounding landscape. The warm summer breeze blew gently through the grassland that encompassed the port, a vibrant green against the metallic grey of the artificial structure. The scene before her stood in stark contrast to the majority of her life to date, short spats of brutal violence interrupted by drawn out periods of waiting. Waiting for the next assault on her person, the next battle, the next time someone would try to knife her in the back. When she finally had been arrested by the authorities, it had, in the smallest way, been a relief. Though that feeling disappeared upon learning that she would spend however long in cryo, waiting until someone forked out the money to buy her. If she had known then the man who would come to pull her out, she would have walked into the restraint chair with a smile on her lips and her middle finger outstretched. Never before had she gone into battle with someone she trusted at her back. It was difficult to get used to at first, but eventually she grew to enjoy the company of Shepard and his crew. Not that she would admit it out loud.
Looking to Sara across from her in the shuttle, she couldn’t help think how much about her life had changed for the better. If there were any two people she could credit with this, it would be Sheppard and Sara. The mathematics teacher had made it possible for her to adapt to the role of instructor; both at the introductory level, and the advanced offensive course that she gave some of the older students. Whenever she felt like she couldn’t stand the antics of her younger charges, Sara had been there to offer advice and hints for dealing with them. There were, of course, odd moments that Sara also reminded her that throwing the older students, who were misusing her offensive techniques, was a bad thing as well. Between the letters from Shepard, and the constant companionship of her friend, Ms. Jacqueline Nought had become a productive member of society. Well, relatively speaking. There were the odd moments when she had relapses. Much like the time she had pinned that a*****e of a history teacher to the wall for suggesting Shepard had falsified some of his reports about Saren.
Jack’s train of thought was interrupted by a sudden sigh from the pilot of the shuttle.
“Great, the outer comm beacon went down. This is going to make things so much more enjoyable.”
The sarcasm all but dripped from each word. Jack moved closer to the man trying to figure out what was going on.
“What do you mean the beacon went down, didn’t we sent a maintenance team out there last month?”
The pilot turned to her, indifference clear upon his features.
“Yea, but the outer beacon is always having problems. That’s why it can be such a pain to contact the Alliance at times when it goes down.”
Jack knew that the academy, as well as the colony in general, was off the beaten path. A full three days travel from the nearest relay, the outer comm beacon was their only link to the galaxy outside the system. One of three space facilities, the comm beacon was connected to the planet through the orbital space station that serviced the colony. In the year that she had been at the school it had only gone down once. That incident had been due to a faulty relay board, and had been fixed within hours. Now however, Jack couldn’t help but feel that this was too close to the evacuation for comfort.
“Did the orbital space station say what was wrong?”
The pilot looked like he was about to respond, but a sudden burst of radio chatter made him focus on his readouts.
“Damn, now we’ve lost contact with the mining platform as well. It might be a virus in the system.”
The pilot had trailed off, a clear sign that he had no confidence on his own words. Jack, on the other hand, already knew what was coming. It had been in the back of her mind all along; the one fear that she had, and only ever shared with the one man she knew could stop it.
“The Reapers are here.”
It was barely above a whisper, but the pilot heard it. Jack had already closed the cockpit door, to prevent the others from hearing the conversation, and with the hatch secure she gripped the pilot’s shoulder, speaking quickly.
“Radio the other shuttles! We have to get away from the spaceport!”
The man turned to her, confusion evident across his features.
“What? But what about the evacuation!”
Jack’s temper began to rise. Anger leached into her voice.
“Think for a minute you ****ing idiot! If the Reapers are here the first thing they are going to do is cut off our means of escape. There are three ships already at the port, those will be the first targets. Our best chance is to get as many people to the shelters as possible!”
The shelters had first been installed when the planet only played host to the mining operation that was based around the sixth planet. The Alliance had figured that, because of the distance from the relay, the colonists would need to survive long enough for the navy to arrive to drive off the invaders. Thus the shelters were built to withstand a significant amount of punishment. They wouldn’t stand a chance against a Reaper assault of that length, but they may just be enough for Shepard to reach the colony and save them all. Despite the gravity of the situation, a feral grin spread across her features. When Shepard arrived, it was going to be just like old times.
“Ms. Nought! I’m having trouble communicating with the other shuttles! The orbital station has also gone dark! This can’t be happening! Nothing moves that fast!”
The pilot had begun to panic. A lifetime of experience had taught her that those who panic die first. Grabbing the pilot she released his harness and biotically threw him from the chair. Not caring as to his injuries, she slipped into the seat and took control.
“Sara, there’s been a change in plans. We’re going to divert and wait until the all clear is given to return to the port.”
Jack could hear the questions coming from the students in the passenger compartment of the shuttle. Shutting off the intercom, she began to figure the quickest way to the shelters. If the Reapers had reached the orbital station, they would have only a handful of minutes to make the trip. Just before she was about to alter the trajectory of her craft, she looked up to see some of the other shuttles in front of her. She couldn’t radio them, and they were most likely confused. Easy targets for an aerial strike by the flying husks she had heard about. If she tried to warn them, it would eat into the precious time she had to reach the shelters. If she didn’t do anything however, she might very well be dooming them to a fate worse than death at the hands of the Reapers.
In the end, it took less than a second for her to make the decision.
“F**k! S**t! Mother ****ing son of a b***h!”
Punching the throttle, she jumped the shuttle forward, moving her craft out in front of the six shuttles in front of her. Visibly turning away from the port, she flashed the running lights of her craft to attract their attention. Figuring that would at least get them to try to radio her, she took off at full speed towards the shelters. If the pilots were smart, they would realise, if they hadn’t already, that something was very wrong. That, along with her obvious trajectory, might encourage them to follow her. Taking a split second, she checked the sensor readouts. She couldn’t hold back the smile when she saw that several of the shuttles that had been behind her, as well as some of those in front, were turning to follow.
She would deny it to her dying day, but she couldn’t supress the feeling of satisfaction and joy that spread through her at seeing what she had done. Risking her own life, to save others. She wondered, as she saw the sensor readouts flicker, if this was what Shepard had felt all along.
“S**t Shepard, what did you do to me?”
Before the sensor readouts were scrambled completely, she saw the first of the Reaper drop pods start to rain down on the spaceport. The large ground walkers also were seen descending. The readouts showed her the last of the shuttles turning to follow her group, but she knew it was already too late. Hell, as far as she knew, it was already too late for her and her students as well. All she needed was a few more seconds, and they would reach the shelters.
It would be seconds that she would never get.
“Oh S**t! Brace for impact!”

Another section posted! I feel better about this one than my last post. Let me know what you think. If there is one thing that writting this has reminded me, is that I am a total review wh*ore. LOL!
Next, as you can guess, will be the combat section of the story and the reunion between Jack and Shepard and kids..... Yea, that will be interesting....
On the bright side, I managed to beat that femShepX Liara story into submission. I will get to it soon, but for now Sha'ira and Liara are going to be locked in a dark section of my twisted imigination. Take it easy, and have a good one. Let me know what you think of the story so far.

After that, it has the kid from the demo, and moves to enemies, etc. Maybe it is nothing besides showing off the (imo) cool new Jack redesign. It did, however, get my hopes up for the slim chance she could get a bigger role. And considering we have seen literally nothing else of Jack, it is understandable that it would.

As spoiler free as possible here... I got the 'Art of the Mass Effect Universe' book. I will not say anything plot related, but I suddenly have wild and perhaps irrational hopes for Jack's character. The reason for this is that in the ME3 section, the pages are: Ashley page, Kaiden page, Vega page, Garrus page, Liara page, JACK page, spoiler squaddie 1, spoiler squaddie 2.

In the communication room onboard the Normandy, tension permeated the room. The holographic display above the table showed the location of the Reaper frigate in orbit around the planet. Still too far out to obtain accurate sensor information, only the barest details of the situation were available to Shepard.
“EDI, is there any way we can get a better idea of what is going on down in the planet? Can we tell if the Reaper has launched any ground assault units?”
EDI’s voice rang out clearly over the ship’s intercom.
“Unfortunately no, this is the best sensor resolution that can be obtained at this time.”
Shaking his head, Shepard turned to his crew. Present in the room were the holographic images of Hannah and the captain of the Perugia. Pointing to the display of the Reaper Shepard began to address those assembled.
“As you can see, the Reaper is positioned over the spaceport. Most likely it is attempting to destroy the facilities to prevent the colonists from escaping in whatever vessels may be available at the port. This works to our advantage. While the Reaper is bombarding the surface from orbit, it should be possible for the Normandy and the Orizaba to drop from FTL close to their position before they can re-orientate to engage us in combat. Captain Fairchild since the Perugia is a slower vessel you should arrive about two minutes after the Orizaba, correct?”
Captain Fairchild nods to Shepard.
“Yes. Keep in mind Commander, unlike the Normandy and the Orizaba, my ship is not equipped with the Thanix cannon. I highly doubt that our heavy Javelin torpedoes will do much against the barriers of a Reaper, frigate or not.”
Turning back to the display, Shepard nods. Pointing to the projected location that the three Alliance ships would enter FTL, he continues the briefing.
“Agreed, however it may be possible to severely weaken the Reaper’s barriers before your arrival. Since the Normandy has the advantage of speed, we will drop out of FTL first and make a quick strike at the Reaper. As the enemy moves to engage the Normandy will slingshot around the planet, using the planet’s gravity to accelerate. As we are going around the planet, we will drop the shuttle and the Hammerhead hover tank. Both the small vessels will have to make their way down to the planet as the Normandy will not be able to enter the atmosphere. We will need all the speed we can get to increase the kinetic energy of the next volley of Thanix fire once we complete the slingshot around the planet.”
Hannah Shepard regarded her son with ever growing concern.
“That will leave you open to attack from the Reapers when you close to attack range for your second shot. How will you avoid being hit?”
Shepard smiled to his mother, the cocky grin he was so famous for appearing upon his features.
“That is where you and the Orizaba come in. The prototype dreadnought Thanix cannon you have will pack far more punch than anything the Normandy can throw at the Reapers. By the time we have deployed our small craft, you will have dropped out of FTL. Once you do, you will be within attack range of the Reaper, and should be able to get off at least two good shots before they can bring their weapons to bear.”
Hannah nodded in agreement, seeing where her son was going with this.
“They will have turned to fire upon you as you go around the planet. If we drop out of FTL at the right moment, they will be facing away from us. That will place us in the blind zone of their weapons arcs.”
Captain Fairchild suddenly spoke up, concern in his voice.
“This is all well and good, but you are forgetting what happens after the initial strike. We all saw what happened at the Citadel, Reapers can target multiple ships at the same time. The Normandy and the Orizaba will be sitting ducks once the Reaper turns to bring you in range.”
Before Shepard can answer, Hannah turned to her fellow captain and spoke.
“The Normandy is fast. It should be able to avoid most of the frigate’s fire as long as they can get in close. The bombardment from the Orizaba will ensure that the Reaper remains distracted long enough for that to happen. With the delay the Perugia’s slower engines give it, you will exit FTL long enough after us that you will be in their blind spot. Remember, your ship has the weakest weapons. The Reaper will be more interested in destroying the Orizaba and the Normandy before you.”
Fairchild nodded, but continued his opposition to the plan of attack.
“Fine, the Perugia will be protected for a short time after it engages the enemy. That still leaves two of the only ships in the fleet that are equipped with the Thanix cannon. If we lose both of you, the Alliance loses one of its biggest advantages against the Reapers. We only just started fitting the other cruisers with the Thanix, and the other dreadnoughts are waiting on the field results from the Orizaba. Are you will to risk that in order to assist one colony?”
Much to the shock of everyone assembled in the room, Shepard slammed his fist down on the table.
“We are not going to abandon them! We have a chance to save these people and strike a blow at the Reapers at the same time!”
The flush in his face fading, Shepard stood up straight and looked right at Fairchild. Off to the side, Ashley Williams tried to hide a sadistic smile. She had herself been on the receiving end of Shepard’s ‘Hero Speech’, and had to admit that it was fun to watch others suffer through it. The commander really was horrible at this, and yet everyone still lapped it up like starved kittens.
“Yes this is a war, yes people will die, but the moment we start abandoning the innocent to the enemy we start to lose who and what we are. These people need hope; they need something to believe in. If we are going to win this war, we have to convince even the most helpless among us that they can stand up and fight. We need to show the galaxy, not just humanity, that every single individual can and WILL make a difference. Only then will we be able to unite and face this enemy. Only then will we be able to drive them back and save our galaxy.”
Ashley winced. This one was not one of his better ones. Still, as she looked at those assembled, she noted that it seemed to have the desired effect. Resisting the urge to roll her eyes, she returned to listening to the briefing. Captain Fairchild was quiet for a short time before looking back at Shepard.
“Very well commander, I’m going to trust that you know what you are doing. Don’t screw this up.”
Shepard nodded, it wasn’t much but he would take it. Turning back to those assembled, he continued.
“Now, once the Normandy has engaged for the second time, we will close in and use the Javelin torpedoes in conjunction with the Thanix cannon to hammer at the Reaper. Fairchild, you make sure that your ship stays in the Reaper’s blind spot. With the Reaper caught in the cross fire, we should be able to bring down the barriers quickly. When that happens, retreat to a safe distance. These things have a tendency to cause a great deal of damage when they go up. After that, close in and begin to deploy ground units. The Normandy will conduct air strikes on the larger of the Reaper ground forces while the assault troops eliminate the husks. Williams, I want you and Vega to handle the heavier opponents while my team conducts surgical strikes on the enemy. Pick whoever you need and have them report to the shuttle.”
Both Vega and Ashley nod, and Shepard continued on with the plan.
“Since I will be ground side, Captain Shepard will have command of the forces in orbit. Fairchild, make sure you co-ordinate with her during the assault in the Reaper and when deploying your forces.”
The captain nodded and indicated the holographic display.
“Where should I deploy my troops?”
Shepard pointed to two section on the map corresponding with the spaceport and the emergency shelters.

“Depending on the amount of warning they got, the colonists may have had time to get to the shelters. The heaviest units will be at the spaceport, trying to destroy the facility and to eliminate as many of the colonists as they can. That’s where Ash and her team will be dropped. My team will head to the shelters in order to aid any of the colonists that may have attempted to make it to safety. Depending on what our two teams find, we will direct the remaining forces to the locations where they are most needed.”
Everyone around the table nodded, agreeing that the plan was sound. Shepard’s team would be able to assist the colonists at the bunkers, while the heavy strike team, led by Ash, would scout out the strength of the attackers at the space port. Depending on the strength of the enemy, Williams would then take her team and eliminate as many of the heavier units as possible. Once the battle in orbit was resolved, the reinforcements would arrive and be distributed as necessary.
Breaking the silence, Captain Fairchild addressed the group.
“I want to go over the specifics of the ground assault before we arrive in system. I want to give my men a better idea what to expect when they get down there. The sensors on the Perugia still have trouble punching through the Reaper jamming fields.”
Shepard nodded and leaned in close to the holographic display. They only had a short time before dropping out of FTL; he had to make sure that everyone was ready.
The world was black and smelled of smoke. Pain lanced through what seemed like every part of her body. Groaning quietly, she tried to sit up. The black quickly faded away as the pain became white hot.
“Careful there Ms. Nought, you took a nasty hit to the head. I’ve bandaged you up but it’s going to take a while before your head stops feeling like you crashed a shuttle.”
Had she not been in so much pain, she would have biotically thrown his ass into the nearest wall. Opening her eyes she looked to see the twisted remnants of the shuttle’s cockpit. Questions raced through her mind. What had happened? Where were they? How far away was the enemy? Much to her surprise, the first words out of her mouth had nothing to do with her or the Reapers.
“My students… Are they all right?”
The pilot nodded, a small smile crossing his features despite the danger they were in.
“Yea, the shuttles restraints protected them from the worst of the damage. It’s mostly just cuts and bruises. I would be more concerned about what they think of you. What do you think they will say when they find out the teacher was in a moving craft without a seatbelt?”
Now she did hit him, slamming her fist into his jaw.
“Shut up you ****ing moron… What kind of guns are on this thing?”
The pilot shook his head, recovering from the blow.
“**** lady, can’t you take a joke?”
Jack was in no mood for his attempts at levity. Reaching out with her biotics she violently pulled him towards her. Glaring at him with the utmost contempt she let the anger she was feeling fill her voice.
“Listen very carefully; we are over two kilometers from the shelters. We have to get there on foot. There may be hundreds of husks between us and safety. Every moment we spend here while YOU **** around gives them more time to find us. Was. That. Clear?”
The blood had drained from the pilot’s face. He had heard the ‘rumors’ about Ms. Nought’s supposed psychotic tendencies. He was beginning to think the rumors were true.
“It… It’s just a public shuttle. I keep a pistol up her for security, but nothing else…”
The pilot pointed to a compartment, and Jack reached for it. As she did so, she dropped the biotic field around the man, causing him to fall to the floor. Inside she found an older style pistol manufactured by Raikou. A sadistic grin spread across her face. This pistol mas manufactured before the conversion to thermal clips. No need to worry about running out of ammo. True the pistol wasn’t as powerful, nor could she add biotic warp to the ammunition, but she could still kick ****loads of ass with it. Best of all, since husks didn’t drop thermal clips, she didn’t have to worry about conserving ammo. She just had to watch the heat gauge. Suddenly a voice came from outside the cockpit.
“Ms. Nought! Ms. Nought! Ms. Nought! Are you okay?”
Smiling softly, without realizing it, she called out to her student.
“I’m fine Tabitha. How are you doing back there?”
There was a moment’s pause before she heard a reply.
“Where’re good. What are we going to do now?”
In reply, Jack stood and walked to the door. Opening it up, she saw that, as the pilot had said, the worst of the injuries were a few scrapes and bruises. She sighed; the students looked at her worriedly. The gash on her forehead had stopped bleeding, but it probably looked awful. At least Sara had managed to calm most of them down before she got back here. That would make her job easier. Turning to the passengers in the shuttle she began to address them.
“Okay guys, I want you all to listen to me. The shuttle has had a bit of an accident, and we are going to have to walk the rest of the way to the shelters.”
There was a collective groan from the students, and Jack couldn’t help but smile at this. Looking to Sara, she saw the look of worry on her friends face. She knew that she would have to tell the students the truth, if only to prevent them from running off.
“Now, I need you guys to stay calm okay? As you know, we were leaving the colony to avoid the Reapers. Well, the Reapers got here sooner than we thought.”
There was a collective cry of fear from the students. It looked like some of them were going to panic. Some of her students however were looking directly at her. She saw fear in their eyes, yes, but there was something else that filled her with a feeling that she could not describe. These were the students that she had protected from the charging bear, and they trusted her to keep them safe. Suddenly a hand shot through one of the opening created by the shuttle door when it was damaged. Jack immediately recognized the blue/black tint of a husk.
Jack didn’t think, she just fired the gun.
The round severed the arm, causing it to fall to the ground. The sound had deafened and frightened the children. Jack knew she didn’t have time to be gently with them.
“That’s what is after us. We need to get out of here and to the shelters. Everyone behind me and Ms. Cartwright, and make sure you stay close.”
Pointing to the pilot, she gestured violently to the rear of the group.
“Get your ass back there, and if you ****ing hear anything I want to know about it. **** this up and the husks will be the least of your worries.”
She had said this quietly, to avoid the students overhearing the profanity. The effect was still just as potent. The pilot paled again and quickly moved to the back of the group. Using her biotics, she forced the door open and led her group out into the open. It took but a moment to get her bearings. In order to reach the shelters, they would have to make their way to the old mining headquarters on the outside the colony. The buildings were considered ugly and obsolete, but the mining company still used it from time to time. Off in the distance, she saw a smoke trail rising from the ground. It looked like it was another downed shuttle. She might be able to get more supplies and weapons from it. Heading in the direction, the group moved quickly towards the site. Suddenly, one of the other passengers, who she didn’t know, tugged at her sleeve.
“Hey lady! Look at that!”

“Too bad Sara, you have no chance at looking good for Shepard now!”
Sara stuck out her tongue at Jack. Despite the danger they were in, it was good to be able to laugh at something. The fact that the Alliance had arrived, was also a big morale booster. The children cheered, and the three adults had to spend a few moments trying to calm them down. When order had been restored, they continued towards the downed shuttle. As they approached, Jack signalled for the group to hold back. Making her way up the rise, she looked over to see the shuttle. Gore littered the area, blood and body parts strewn everywhere. She could see what looked like the armor from one of the security personnel, but she couldn’t be sure at this distance. Looking back to Sara, she handed the woman the pistol.
“Sara, stay here with the kids. I need to go check out that shuttle for supplies. You remember how to use a gun right?”
Sara nodded to Jack. Most colonists received some training with weapons for emergency situations out on the frontier. With how the colony had grown, she had been one of the last to receive the training.
“Jack, are you sure you want to go over there?”
The concern was evident in her voice, and Jack couldn’t help feeling touched.
“I’ll be okay, just make sure that you keep an eye out.”
Cresting the rise, Jack made her way to the shuttle. As she got closer, the smell of burning flesh began to invade her senses. Already long used to such things as were before her, Jack continued on without so much as a slight gag. Moving quickly around the perimeter of the shuttle, Jack made sure that she had a clear exit before entering. The smoke was thick in the air, making it hard to breathe, but she worked quickly to find what she was looking for.
Looking on the scene from the rise, Sara Cartwright felt a storm of emotions go through her. She was nervous for her friend as well as her students. Even with the pistol clutched in her grip, she didn’t feel any safer. Suddenly she noticed movement out by the shuttle. Straining her eyes, she tried to see if Jack was coming out. It took moment, but she saw what looked like five or six men shuffling their way towards the shuttle from behind. Panicking, she tried to think of a way to warn her friend.
As Jack finished her last search of the shuttle, she took stock of the items she had found. The two packs of medigell had been a god send, and had picked up a katana shotgun near the back of the shuttle. She cradled the weapon in her hands. It wasn’t her baby, the geth plasma shotgun Shepard had given her, but it would still do the job. Beside the gun she had found six thermal clips. Gathering everything up, she began to exit the shuttle. Looking up to the rise, she saw Sara waving at her wildly. Jack stopped for a moment, trying to figure out what was going on. Then Sara whipped around and dropped back down. Jack heard the loud blasts from the pistol as she heard Sara firing wildly at something. Securing the clips and jell she started to run towards the hill when something slammed into her.
Jack rolled and came up just in time to see a husk lunge at her. Charging her biotics, she threw the husk right at the shuttle impaling it on a jagged piece of metal. Screams of panic from the children reached her ears just as she ducked under the swing of another husk that had come around from behind the shuttle. Wrapping her leg with biotics, she kicked violently at it. The loud crunch as its spine was severed made her grin with satisfaction.
“I’ll kill you ALL!”
She screamed it to the heavens as she slammed a biotically charged fist into a third husks head. The head was taken clean off and the husk fell to the ground, twitching. Moving quickly back towards her group, she saw them all come running up over the hill and towards her. Sara was at the back of the group still firing. The pilot was carrying one of the children, their leg bent at an odd angle and blood dripping from their mouth.
Rage filled her as she saw it was one of hers. Turning to the remaining husks behind her, she created an area lift with her biotics. The last two of the mindless Reaper slaves were hurtled up into the air as she screamed incoherently. Taking aim with her shotgun she discharged two rounds, cutting both of the husks in half. She then turned and ran at full speed to the pilot. A horrid image from her past began to surface in her mind. The first time she had beaten a child nearly to death in the combat arena on Pragia. This little girl had begged and pleaded with her to stop, that she would do anything if Jack would just stop. Her blond hair was matted with her own blood as it ran from several lacerations Jack had given her while using her biotics to bash the little girl against the cement blocks. Such a sight should have disturbed the young Subject Zero, but all she could think about at the time was how good it felt to make the little girl scream. It would only be years later that she would understand Cerberus was manipulating her to feel that way by pumping drugs into her.
Now the past and the present were starting to come together. It was her fault the student was hurt, just as it had been all those years ago. If only she had stayed with the groups and instead headed straight to the shelters. Tears began to sting her eyes. Once again she heard Sara fired the pistol, this was followed by the sound of repeating thuds. Unconsciously, Jack noted that these thuds sounded disturbingly similar to the sounds her shockwave made on dirt terrain.
As she reached the pilot and the injured student, she nearly cried out in joy as she saw the student was still alive. Jack placed the mediegell on the student’s body so the pilot could set her down and apply it. Another volley of pistol fire brought her attention back to Sara. She looked just in time to see a shockwave throw Sara to the ground. The young woman cried out and grabbed at the right ankle.
Time seemed to slow for Jack as she saw the hump of a disfigured humanoid become visible over the crest of the hill. Staggering each step, the scion slowly moved towards the group. Closer and closer it came, though it was still out of range of the children. That would change very soon, and then her kids would start to die. She didn’t have time to think, she had to act before she let them all down. Raising her shotgun, she ran at the scion screaming at the top of her lungs.
“I will be your doom!”
She fired another round from the weapon, hitting the scion’s hump. The air was misted with an electric blue, but it still kept coming. The monstrosity raised its arm and launched another shockwave. Jack dived out of the way and rolled to her feet. Releasing a shockwave of her own, she ejected the spent clip and reloaded. By then, her shockwave had hit the scion and caused it to stagger to a halt. Taking advantage of this she fired three rounds in quick succession. More of the scion’s body was blown off and still it kept moving. There was only a six feet between them now. Reloading, Jack fired three times again. Then she was upon the scion. It swung slowly at her as she moved in. Diving underneath the arm, she came up standing behind it. She could hear it powering up to release as repellant field to force her away. Digging her feet into the dirt beneath her, Jack lunged at it. All of her biotic ability focused into her fist. There was a loud crunch, followed by a squelch. Then all the resistance fell away from her fist, causing her to stumble forward. She fell flat on her front, and then scrambled to her feet. Turning, she looked back at the scion only to find she had hit its head clean off.
“Jack! It is dead?”
Jack turned to see Sara, looking down at her from the top of the hill. Jack could see she was favouring her right leg.
“Yea Sara, I got it!”
Jack began to walk toward her friend. Upon reaching her, Jack helped her towards their group.
“How are you doing Sara? Can you walk?”
The mathematics teacher grimaced, but tried putting her foot down.
“All things considered, I could be worse. Give me a minute to rest, I should be able to tough it out…. Jack…. Do you think we’re gonna make it? “

Jack forced a smile onto her face, but she knew the truth. They had one severely injured student, and Sara was going to have to limp the rest of the way. They had one bag of medigell left, and her shotgun had one thermal clip. Things didn't look well for them, but she had to try to keep everyone’s spirits up. Walking over to her injured student, she looked to the pilot.
“How is she doing?”
The pilot looked up at her, frustration in his eyes.
“I don’t know, it looks like she may have cracked a rib or punctured a lung. She won’t be able to walk on this leg, I can tell you that. She needs a doctor, at the very least a field medic.”
Jack smiled for her student. The little girl whimpered piteously, but did try to smile back.
“Don’t worry Jane, we’re gonna get you to a doctor okay?”
Jane nodded, and closed her eyes. Jack could only guess what she was thinking, but the mere fact that she wasn’t screaming in pain was a testament to her endurance and strength. I was either that, or her silence was further evidence of the damage to her chest and lungs. Jack wanted to believe it was the former. She signalled to her group to follow her, though she did notice that the students looked far more nervous now. Their terrified glances to and fro dead giveaways of just how frightened they were. As much as she wanted to comfort them, Jack knew that they had to move quickly if they wanted to reach the shelters. Even if Shepard had arrived, they still had to get rid of the ground units. All it would take is one stray husk to do a lot of damage to undefended civilians. As if to illustrate her point she began to hear loud thuds off in the distance, like a giant animal were making its way towards them.

Holy crap! Did I just post something this long? I'm sorry I was unable to post earlier. Grant application for my reseach was taking forever, and it had to get done. No grant, no food, no food, now energy for ME3.... or anything else for that matter.
Anyway, I normally consider myself very poor at writting combat. This time I seem to have done a little better, but I still wish I could find a way to improve it. I hope you all let me know what you think, after all I can't get better without being yelled at.
The story should end either in the next section or the one after, so I all hope you are looking forward to seeing the finished product. Have a good one, and take it easy.
