Jack forced a smile onto her face, but she knew the truth. They had one severely injured student, and Sara was going to have to limp the rest of the way. They had one bag of medigell left, and her shotgun had one thermal clip. Things didn't look well for them, but she had to try to keep everyone’s spirits up. Walking over to her injured student, she looked to the pilot.
“How is she doing?”
The pilot looked up at her, frustration in his eyes.
“I don’t know, it looks like she may have cracked a rib or punctured a lung. She won’t be able to walk on this leg, I can tell you that. She needs a doctor, at the very least a field medic.”
Jack smiled for her student. The little girl whimpered piteously, but did try to smile back.
“Don’t worry Jane, we’re gonna get you to a doctor okay?”
Jane nodded, and closed her eyes. Jack could only guess what she was thinking, but the mere fact that she wasn’t screaming in pain was a testament to her endurance and strength. I was either that, or her silence was further evidence of the damage to her chest and lungs. Jack wanted to believe it was the former. She signalled to her group to follow her, though she did notice that the students looked far more nervous now. Their terrified glances to and fro dead giveaways of just how frightened they were. As much as she wanted to comfort them, Jack knew that they had to move quickly if they wanted to reach the shelters. Even if Shepard had arrived, they still had to get rid of the ground units. All it would take is one stray husk to do a lot of damage to undefended civilians. As if to illustrate her point she began to hear loud thuds off in the distance, like a giant animal were making its way towards them.

Holy crap! Did I just post something this long? I'm sorry I was unable to post earlier. Grant application for my reseach was taking forever, and it had to get done. No grant, no food, no food, now energy for ME3.... or anything else for that matter.
Anyway, I normally consider myself very poor at writting combat. This time I seem to have done a little better, but I still wish I could find a way to improve it. I hope you all let me know what you think, after all I can't get better without being yelled at.
The story should end either in the next section or the one after, so I all hope you are looking forward to seeing the finished product. Have a good one, and take it easy.
That's some awesome writing. I'd love to see more of it. If you write any more post them.

Shepard: (hands Jack a box wrapped in pink paper) For you.
Jack: (smirks) You do know that if this is about sex you can just come out and say it. I don't really do the "pay for it in installments" thing, 'sides I'm not some high maintainence **** like the Cheerleader. (opens the box and lets out a low whistle) Damn, M-300 Claymore with extended mag and a heavy-duty inertial damper to keep me from breaking an arm. Even has my name engraved on the stock. That's one hell of a present bossman, makes me feel bad for getting you a box of chocolates.
Shepard: (smiles) I don't really do the "pay for it in installments" thing.
Jack: (playfully punches Shepard in the shoulder) Smartass.
Shepard: Want to go test that thing out?
Jack: Hell yeah.

Ha! That reminds me of a fanfiction I read a while back. I can imagine her saying this part really quickly, almost like an excited kid on Christmas: "(opens the box and lets out a low whistle) Damn, M-300 Claymore with extended mag and a heavy-duty inertial damper to keep me from breaking an arm."

I've been out of the loop and wondered whether Jack will be back as a full squad mate in ME3 or will it be more of a guest appearance thing? The Jack-romance in ME2 was probably the best ever in a game for me. Has any info been released on its continuation, will it be comparable in length to that of fanwank Liara for instance?
Unfortunately, no ME2 character is a squadmate in ME3, but I really happy with her role, though some aren't - which is fine. It's a matter of opinion and what you personally want for her in the future. Plus for me, permanence doesn't necessarily equal great character development or the right one in a sense. So for now, it fits (for me) and I'm happy to see where it goes, but would I like her as a squadmate, no, I'd LOVE her as a squadmate, but as I stated above, it might not be the best thing for her character.
There's been a new concept art of her look, you can see my profile picture for example is one of her concepts. This is all coming from the upcoming Art of The Mass Effect Universe, which has been shipped for me, but no arrival yet (it's supposed to come out on the 21th).

I mean if you are going for a tragedy then this is perfect. It would be a mercy killing situation with the victim being half insane due to the process. They could beg for a swift death and everything. It could be the most gut wrenching thing ever. But... why would anyone let that happen in the first place?

Here's Ms. Taylor's entire response. Gimme a bit, while I format it, because these forums don't like copying-and-pasting, and formating.
1) What description were you given about Jack's character?
When we audition for things, we usually get a paragraph of information about the character. It often includes their attitude, if they have an accent, their pitch, social status, age, etc. It's usually accompanied by a picture. I actually don't remember the original audition for Jack because it was a few years ago now, which is kind of a bummer since I would love to see what we got for her!
2) What was your reaction when you found out you were voicing a badass chick who's covered in tattoos and has a shaved head?
As a kid I was really into punk rock music so I was psyched! I ran around with girls who had shaved heads and tattoos (although not to Jack's extreme) so she looked very familiar to me. And she was so original looking in the world of games - I loved that she didn't have long hair, thigh boots and huge boobs...although from reading the boards upon her initial release, I was in the minority of thinking she was hot! I couldn't believe people hated her so much before the game even dropped - especially because of her looks. I was happy to see some people changed their minds once they played ME2, but still - note to self: Don't read the boards!
3) Were you able to find Jack's voice quickly, or did you have to experiment with a few different types of accents, dialects and enunciations before it sounded right?
I'll let you in on a little secret - there was no experimenting with her vocal sound. Jack is just me - sometimes on a very bad day. The director immediately asked me to use my own voice which was a bit of a relief. Jack had so much emotional range that it allowed me to just concentrate on that stuff and not worry about an accent or attitude that was further from my own.
4) Jack has quite a few emotional scenes. Was it difficult to nail that perfect tone for those scenes?
Because in video games we generally record separately from other actors, certain material can be a challenge. When she was describing what had happened to her as a child standing in her old room - that was a bit tricky. You have to live those memories in the first person and not get caught standing outside of it, feeling badly for your own character. Torture and experimentation are things I've not experienced so I instantly default to being horrified and obviously that doesn't work for Jack. So I had to work to stay away from that. Her rage, her disdain for Miranda, and her sensitive moments came easier. I understand what it's like to be a tough girl with a gooey center!
5) Were you able to hear the lines of other characters while you were recording lines?
Not the actors' spoken versions. In most games the director will help us sort out what is going on in the moment, and read the previous line to us so we know who we are talking to and the tone of the scene. The gorgeously talented Ginny McSwain directed me on all my Jack sessions, and she gives a killer read and gave me a lot to work with. She is a ****** jack actor and director and she can coax a great read from just about anyone.
6) Have you seen a lot of footage of Jack with your voice coming from her mouth?
I've seen the trailers and the clips on YouTube. I absolutely loved the trailers - I was gobsmacked to see the final product. She's so cool and real and looks amazing. I loved howcandid that one was where she is talking into the camera - they did a brilliant job. Although after the initial trailer I did get a lot of messages on my cel from friends, saying "Who's the bad-ass biotic now, ****?" So I think that was the favorite line!
7) How do you feel about the about the end result of the character Jack? Is there anything you would change about her?
I am really proud of Jack, not just the work I did but her whole persona - she was so distinct on the page. The writers should be commended on creating a complex, layered character that represents a different kind of real girl out there who really does exist and deserves to be heard. She was the first character I've voiced in a game where I was like, "Oh yeah, I totally get this girl..." She has no governor over what she says or feels but she is no bull**** either. And I'd rather hang out with people who are a little socially awkward and will tell you the truth of how they feel than someone who's "nice" and tells you what you want to hear.
The only thing I didn't love was something visual, and the Bioware guys changed before the release. Initially I wasn't mad about the leather strap across her chest - but they changed it to a regular top. I'm not puritanical at all - Jack just didn't seem like she would lead with something so sexy - she's too guarded to show that much skin even though she loves her tattoos. I felt they were for HER though, not to show off. I thought the final look was great and her tattoos were especially amazing.
8) Did you do voice work for other characters in the game?
I did, Kalara Tomi. I was credited with another character in the press, but it was a mistake.
9) How were you chosen as Jack's VA?
That you would have to ask the lovely people at Bioware! I assume they listened to a million auditions so I was very fortunate to get the role. Having a deeper voice probably helped since Jack simply could NOT sound squeaky, and I have worked with and auditioned for Bioware before so perhaps that was a factor? I'd like to think it was my *sparkling* personality and toothy grin, but I doubt it
10) And last but not least, cake or pie?
That is easy. CAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE! I don't like hot fruit much so pie is last on the list. I love cupcakes and really good scratch cakes. My best friend is an epic baker so I've been known to knock out a few cupcakes with some strong coffee and call it breakfast!
I would just like to say a big fat thank you to all the Jackolytes out there! What a talented, smart, creative bunch you guys are! I am constantly blown away by the gorgeous art and writing you guys craft. Thanks for all the kind words on the boards, in the mail and on Facebook and Twitter. I am thrilled that you love Jack as much as I do and I hope to stay connected with you guys!
Much love, Courtenay
Epic Bump.

It gives the option to RP Jack as being a tragic character. She moves on from her past with Cerberus and builds a life for herself only to have it taken away by Cerberus in the end. Granted, this outcome is avoidable, you just need to go to Grissom Academy when Cerberus attacks it.
Although the description of Phantoms being "goddamn ninjas on speed" just makes me think of Jack on caffeine.

Once Jack was sure that it was safe to move Jane, she turned to Sara.
“You okay to walk, or do you need help?”
Despite the pain she was feeling, Sara waved off her friend.
“I should be fine, just give me a minute.”
Jack could see that the ankle was starting to swell. It wasn’t bad, but it would definitely slow the woman down.
“Sara, we still have some medigell left. One injection should be able reduce the swelling and kill the pain.”
Sara shook her head.
“No, we need it for Jane, or anyone else that is injured. How much farther is it?”
Jack turned towards the mining facility. There was still just over a kilometer and a half before they reached the complex. From there, they would have to cross to the other side and access the shelters. Jack knew that the chances of meeting any husks on the way would be small, but once they got there it would be a whole new ball game.
“Not far Sara, it should be just over half an hour if we hurry.”
Grimacing, Sara tried to take a few steps. She didn’t get far before the pain became too much and she had to stop. She turned to her friend, an apologetic smile on her face. Despite her expression and the tone of her voice, it wasn’t hard to see the fear in her eyes.
“Damn! Jack, there’s no way I can make it on this leg. You’ll have to get the kids there without me.”
For just a moment, Jack flashed back to the Collector base. She had stood by Shepard right up to the end, refusing to leave his side even when he had told her to stay behind with the rear guard. She had witnessed the horror of the human Reaper, lived to see it fall to a fiery death at the base of the shaft. The crew had been saved, the Collectors had been stopped. Time however, had run out. They had taken too long to kill the larval reaper. Yet the Normandy had refused to leave, Joker insisting they would wait to pick them up. The crippled pilot had been as good as his word, waiting until every last man was on the ship, and they had all made it out alive. She had watched in silent amazement as the base exploded, had felt herself tense as the shockwave approached. Then they were gone, safe and on their way home. Never before could she comprehend the tradition of not leaving ones comrades behind. She had thought it foolhardy and sentimental. It was only then that she had understood. Joker had acted out of friendship and loyalty to Shepard, just as Shepard would have done for him. She had never under understood because no one had ever been important enough to her to trust, let alone gain her loyalty. Now, looking at Sara, the woman who had done almost as much for her as Shepard, Jack already knew what her response would be.
“Stop whining b***h and get over here. I’m going to get you through this if I have to drag your ass to the shelters myself.”
Sara’s eyes widened as her friend wrapped an arm around her shoulders and helped take some of the weight off her bad leg.
“Jack! I’ll only slow you down.”
A smile crossed the tattooed woman’s face as she was once again lost in memory.
“No one gets left behind…”
With that, the biotics instructor signalled to the group and they began to make their way across the open ground to the complex. With her shotgun in one hand and Sara supported by her other arm, she led the group as quickly as she could without forcing the injured too hard.
As the group moved, the far off sound Jack had heard earlier began to grow louder. It didn’t take much intelligence to tell that whatever was making the noise was large, but she could think of nothing that the colonists had capable of making a noise like that. The only conclusion she could come up with worried her greatly. Whatever it was, the Reapers must have brought it with them. The sound seemed to be coming from the direction of the shelters. Inwardly Jack cursed whatever luck she had for throwing this in her way.
It turned out that Jack’s initial estimate of the time to reach the shelters was a little optimistic. As the group had made its way to the complex, Jane’s condition had taken a turn for the worst. The young girl had begun to cough up blood, and her heart had begun to slow. The helplessness of the situation had sunk deep into Jack, biting deep into her very core. Once again she wondered if Shepard had felt the same when he led men into battle. If he did, she decided, her lover must have a will of iron. She injected the last of the medigell into the ailing student, hoping that no one else would come to need the life giving substance. Moments after the injection, Jane’s breathing began to steady though her heart rate remained worryingly low. Most importantly, she had stopped coughing up blood. This lifted the spirits of the group; Tabitha even managed a weak joke that scored more than a few chuckles.
They were, at that point, less than five hundred meters from the buildings that made up the mining complex. Just beyond those buildings were the large granite mountains that separated the grasslands, on which the heart of the colony was situated, from the coastal strip that ran along the opposite side. Jack had, against her will, been forced into a bikini on many occasions by Sara and dragged onto the shuttle for a day at the beach. The thought of that accursed place, a haven for bratty stuck up teenagers who liked to flaunt their looks, leveled by the invaders brought a smile to her lips. The loud thudding was louder than ever, and Jack knew there was no way that the group would get to safety without getting by whatever it was that was making the racket. Continuing onwards, the group grew closer and closer. Still the loud thuds increased in volume. Suddenly, there was a loud whine and a flash of red. Part of the mountain lit up, and smoke billowed into the air. In the light reflected off the granite rock, Jack saw the tip of a monstrous machine. Standing over two hundred feet tall, the Reaper ground walker had somehow blended in with the colour of the mountainside. Jack turned to her group, and noticed they had stopped walking. Some were quivering with fear at the sight, others openly cried. She knew that she had to get the moving again and out of the open.
“You see that thing over there? If we stand out here too long, it’s going to see us. We need to get into hiding before that happens. I know you are scared, but I need you all to trust me just a little longer!”
Jack tried to make herself as convincing as possible, using the tone Sara had often called her ‘maternal’ voice just to ****** her off. Though it did little to settle the children’s nerves, they at least started moving again. Covering the last hundred meters as quickly as they could, Jack’s group immediately took shelter behind the first building that they came to. All that was left was to cross to the other side of the complex and to enter the bunkers. Jack had already calculated that the large ground assault vehicle was attacking the shelter located furthest from the complex. There was one much closer to their position, and that was where she intended to lead her group.
Moving as slowly and as silently as they could, the assemblage weaved in between the buildings. From time to time, they would come across a group of husks rambling across their path. It was only with the greatest effort that Jack was able to hide her group from these sentries until they passed on. Each time she gestured for them to take cover, they would all huddle down in a miserable, frightened group until Jack gave the go ahead. The long journey, combined with the constant terror, had begun to show in the children. They were slowing down, and some had to be quietly encouraged to keep up. Despite her earlier, negative, impression of him, the shuttle pilot was performing admirably at this task and as the rear guard. Soon they were at the last building in the complex. The entrance to the shelter was just around the corner and a good hundred foot sprint. The last leg of the journey was across open ground, but she was confident that, as long as the large ground assault vehicle was facing away, she and her group could make it. Moving to the edge of the building, she crouched down next to a stack of crates, one of which was precariously perched on top of the others. She looked back at her group, a smile lighting her face.
“Alright guys, we made it. Now…”
Suddenly from around the corner a husk appeared. It lashed out at Jack, hitting her and causing her to lose both her balance and her grip on Sara. Both women fell to the ground in a heap, the shotgun and pistol flying from their grip. Quickly rolling over, Jack saw the husk raise its fist to deliver a fatal blow to her head when a weak blue ball of biotic energy slammed into the creature’s torso. It staggered back a single step and impacted on the stack of crates, causing the topmost to fall and crush its head.
“F**k you A**hole!”
Jack blinked in shock and turned to the source of the voice. Standing tall and proud with a defiant look in her eyes, that was eerily familiar, Tabitha still glowed with the after effects of a weak biotic throw. A smug grin lit up her little face as she saw the other students look upon her with awe and admiration. Jack could hear Sara groan in annoyance from beside her.
”It seems the student has learned from the master… Great going Jack, soon there won’t be enough soap in the galaxy to wash that mouth out.”
“Screw you Sara, you’re just jealous.”
Despite her words, there was no malice in Jack’s tone. Turning to her students, she signalled them to silence. Peaking around the corner, Jack groaned as she saw the entrance was blocked by a dozen husks.
“Things just had to be hard, didn’t they?”

“What are we going to do Jack?”
The biotic though for a moment, trying to puzzle out a way to get to the shelter. If they fired at any of the husks, weak though they may be, it would call the others to their position. Also, the large Reaper might turn and fire on them. Whatever she was going to do, it had to be done fast. Then she thought of something.
“Sara, do you think you could run most of the way over there if you had to?”
Sara nodded, though somewhat reluctantly, so Jack outlined her plan to her friend.
“We can make it if we charge the entrance. I’ll clear the way with a shockwave and, as we all run to the entrance, you and I will mop up the remaining husks with our guns. After that, it will be just a matter of moments to enter the code and unlock the shelters to get in.”
Sara looked worried, she knew it was risky but they had few other options.
As Sara readied the other students Jack began to power up to release a massive shock wave. The biotic glow around her intensified, and when she was ready, she quickly stepped out from behind the crates to face the group of husks.
To her undying horror, she found the group, which had previously only been milling about aimlessly, already focused on her before she had even acted against them. Even worse, she saw that the large Reaper ground vehicle had turned to face her. Her mind raced, trying to figure out how they had detected her. Then she remembered how the Illusive Man had leaked information about the location of Ashley Williams to attract the Collectors. Suddenly, a horrible realization crossed her mind. The Reapers had come to this planet not just to destroy the colony, but to destroy her. They wanted to demoralize the one man they feared, the one man they knew could stop them. What better way to do that than by killing the one he loved? The Reapers knew her biotic signature from scans taken on the Collector base and must have been searching for it. Time seemed to slow down as she saw the red glow from the cannon, already prepped to fire. She had no time to react, no time to shout out her final grievances against the Reapers. No time to scream out to her students, to beg their forgiveness for failing them. As the end came to her, she had time for one last though.
“I love you Shepard.”
She waited, heard the explosion as the Reaper’s weapon impacted. She didn’t feel the heat or the pain, just the breeze on her face.
Death it seemed, would not come to Ms. Jacqueline Nought this day.
Opening her eyes, Jack looked in amazement as the Reaper began to fall towards the large group of husks in front of the shelter. Almost comically, the ungainly construct fell over as its damaged leg caved in. Impacting on the ground, Jack was nearly shaken off her feet from the shock of the impact. Seconds later, she saw an object flying towards the large machine from the mountainside it had been firing at. Cluing in to what it might be she dove for cover. It turned out that she was a hair slow, as upon impact the Reaper jerked from the force of the explosive round detonating before it then exploded its self. The blast wave threw Jack hard against the wall of the building, slamming her into it. Her head swam with the impact as she slid to the ground, her sight quickly going dark. Mercifully, she slipped into unconsciousness shortly afterwards.
When she opened her eyes again, she was laying down on something soft. Her head was pounding something fierce.
“Hey sleepy head, it’s about time you got up.”
She knew that voice, and never before had it sounded so sweet to her ears. Turning her head, she saw the love of her life standing next to her.
“Shepard… Wait! Where are my students?”
At this, Shepard raised an eyebrow. He pointed to the other side of the gurney she was on. She turned, and saw her entire class standing nervously nearby. As she waved to them, they began to cheer noisily.
“How long have I been out?”
Shepard laughed.
“Almost the whole afternoon, you missed all the fun.”
Jack pouted. She had been hoping to join in on the fighting after she had gotten her students to safety. Her expression only made Shepard laugh harder.
“What’s so funny?”
It took him a few minutes, but eventually he calmed down enough to speak.
“You look so adorable like that. It really goes with all the stories your students have been telling me.”
Jack felt a sinking feeling in her stomach. The growing mirth on Shepard’s expression did nothing to allay this.
“Trips to the beach, surprise hugs, staying late to tutor students… My dear Ms. Nought, what a difference a year makes.”
She was going to kill him. No, wait, she was going to kill Sara first and then she was going to kill Shepard. She was about to deny the surprise hug accusation, she had been drunk at the time, when Shepard spoke up again.
“And what’s this I hear about you attending classes to learn to manage your language? My, my, what would Miranda say if she ever heard?”
That did it. That was the straw that broke the camel’s back. cocking her fist back as best she could from her position she slugged Shepard across the jaw. He staggered back, still smiling. Suddenly there was a cry from her students.
“Oh My God! Ms. Nought hit Commander Shepard! So COOOOOOOOOOOOL!”
Tabitha added her own two cents.
“F**king awesome!”
Jack turned to her student, annoyance leaking into her voice.
“Tabitha! Watch your mouth!”
This sent Shepard into a fresh bout of laughter, causing Jack to groan and settle back on the gurney. What had happened to her, once she had been tough as nails. Now here she was laid out for an afternoon after a nock to the head, and telling kids not to swear. She felt a hand cover hers and looked up to see Shepard by her side. Smiling at her, he leaned in for a gentle kiss, much to the delight of her female students. Losing herself in the moment, she couldn't help the thought that crossed her mind.
“Though, I can see how I could get used it this…”

I remember there being a discussion on the old Jack fan thread in the ME2 forums about what would happen if we could take one of our squadmates as Shepard's "date" for Kasumi's loyalty mission. The general idea was that Jack could go as an eccentric art critic, black outfit, cigarette, beret, the works.
Epantiras did a really good comic about that particular topic.
Haha, that's a pretty funny comic.

Yep. That brought back a lot of memories drawing this.

It was said more to herself than anyone else, but Sara still heard it.
