I have year sub myself, so i agree. I dont like how miliplayer effects campaign (higher EMS) though, kinda forces people into it, they should at least give you a month of gold membership with ME3 purchaseWRXtacy wrote...
Oh got ya. I don't consider that having to pay to play mass effect though. 59 a year for that service is relatively a good deal.

I wish I was on hear being more vocal about my support for Jack leading up to ME3. I don't think we could've competed with the talimancers, but to know she could have been a permanate squadmate with a little more popularity!!! ..to bad I had faith in Bioware I guess
I'm not a type of player that usually spent time on forums, but if I would know that there is "popularity contest" then I would sit here and I would spam like crazy about Jack (just like I'm doing it now).
For me this idea of making squad with only the most popular characters is just ridiculous and may only lead to mediocrity.

Yes. Same here. Don't get me wrong I like Tali and Liara but knowing it was becasue of popularity and not Biowares choice that there's so much of them and not others...it's kind of depressing to be honest.

Tell me this, if Liara was so popular than why did she barely make an apperance in ME2? I think bioware stretched itself to damn thin with all the characters. They have no one to blame but themselves for the backlash they are getting about characters.
Wasn't it because of fans wanted more that we got LotSB?

After ME1 there was tons of topic where Talimancers and Garruslovers asking for them being LIs. Liara fans were kinda less vocal as they enjoyed what they had in ME1.
So in ME2 we have a lot of Tali and Garrus, but after ME2 there was tons of topic were Liaralovers raged about lack of Liara.
That's why in ME3 we have a lot Liara. But now we have tons of disappointment from fans of characters from ME2.
This cycle won't stop until BioWare won't change their policy about characters.

They needed her alive for ME3, for whatever reason.
...
Now that I think about it, what did they need her alive for?

They don't mention her because in a non-imported playthrough, they don't know her. If you didn't import a game, then Jack died by default during the Suicide Mission, as did Thane. Legion was sold Cerberus, I believe, Grunt was never awakened from his tank, Kasumi and (I think) Zaeed were never recruited and Samara died or wasn't recruited either.Udalango wrote...
My brother played the game but didnt import his ME2 player because he wanted to be something other than a soldier (He coulda just changed but he wouldnt listen to me)
and Jack wasnt even in the game at all. They dont even mention her. PRangley is in charge because "Our professor was killed"
Grunt is also replaced by Dag.
Why would they do this
As for the reasons for the changes, most likely it was an attempt to streamline the game as much as possible for newcomers. It's the same reason why, for example, if you start a new ME2 game, several well-known characters from that game (e.g., Conrad Verner, Captain Kirrahe, Sha'ira, etc.) never contact you or run into you, even if you use the Genesis interactive comic to create an artificial ME1 save file. It can be a pretty disorienting (and, frankly, somewhat alienating and immersion-breaking) experience to have characters you haven't met before show up and speak (or write) to you in reference to past events that you've never played through. So they kept it simple, reducing the number of ME2 squadmates and references to events from that game as much as possible.
Honestly, I can understand their concerns. I am, after all, a PS3 owner who got into the series with ME2 and who has thus far never touched the first game. Meeting characters like Anderson, Udina, Tali, Garrus and Ashley the first time I played ME2 was a little strange for me (especially because I was playing a used copy and thus didn't have access to Genesis). I also couldn't fully grasp the context in which Shepard working for Cerberus was viewed by the other characters, which meant I missed a lot of the tension and conflict that drove ME2's plot and character dynamics forward.

Agreed. That policy is awful. They can't base it off a popularity contest! Frustrating.
Also the final battle, the scene where Liara takes you to that place where it's like snowing or something was really sweet. If I friggin romanced her that is!! Stop forcing the blue beauty down my throat bioware.
