I've found that I don't really care about any of the ME3 squadmates.  In fact, I only talk to them to get reputation, and to unlock bonus powers.  ME3 is a solo experience for me.  What makes it worse, though, is taking squadmates I don't care about to missions where I meet characters I do care about, and who I wish were ME3 squadmates.  I'd gladly drop Ashley and Vega off somewhere godforsaken so that I can pick up Jack and Samara.

:(

I think that's a big problem with the ME3 squaddies. No matter how well written they could/might have been, they're always marred by the resentment that they're replacing characters we care about, taking up valuable disc space/ production time that could have been devoted to our faves.

Ultimately i think that the producers were too timid (most probably due to corporate pressure). they had a great chance here to have a huge variety of ME3 experiences based on who was left to be able to face the mouth of hell alongside Shepard. Leaves me feeling that all the time spent building a team in ME2 was kind of selling us a bill of goods, only to leave us with a team we hadn't put the same amount of effort into for the concluding chapter.

In short: MORE JACK IN ME3!!!

Fainmaca out.

Woo! Never even noticed I'd started the big two-oh-oh.

EDIT: Also, that Jack is awesome, but scary. That smile means she has to be plotting something.

Yeah, I would love to see more of Samara too. Do you know they are written by the same person? At least in ME2.

ME2's squad will always be the most colorful and eclectic (not to mention the largest), and that alone makes it more interesting, but personally, I like ME3's squad just fine. Granted, that probably has as much to do with the richer interplay between characters (when compared with ME2) as it does with the personalities that make up the squad, but I think most of them are good, likable characters. Even Vega, who is perhaps the most generic and uninteresting, comes across as an affable enough guy. Beyond that, you have the solid, reliable personalities like Liara and Tali; Garrus, whose easy charisma and usefulness in combat are always welcome; and Ashley, who is actually among my top 2 love interests in the series, along with Jack (I still haven't done a playthrough where Kaidan's around).

Then there's Javik and EDI, who I would argue are the most fascinating characters in the bunch, and who (again, in my opinion) actually feel...somewhat strangely out of place in ME3. Their unique mannerisms and personalities, coupled with their colorful identities, backgrounds and designs, make it feel as though they'd probably be a better fit in ME2's richer, more comfortably diverse squad. But they add a bit of specialness to ME3's group, a certain exotic element that is both colorful and thought-provoking.

Don't get me wrong, of course. ME2's squad was really something. In terms of characterization and writing on a grounded, personal level, that was almost certainly the most ambitious and experimental property in the Mass Effect franchise (note that I speak of the franchise as a whole, not just the videogame series proper). If it'd been as expansive in that regard as ME3 was, it would have been beyond stellar.

Yeah, I liked that companions now talk much more during mission and there is more interaction between them. It's great and stuff, but it's main reason why I hate ME3 squad so much. Because I would love to see all those interaction with characters that I actually care about.

I'll be the black sheep and say I liked the ME3 squadmates. Including Vega and Ashley, seeing as they're like the least liked. Which I find funny, considering that they're the only two humans on the team.

That's not to say I would've liked for some ME2 squadmates -- like Jack (keeping on topic) -- to join up, but seriously, people need to cut Vega some slack, man.

I'm not even going to ask why people dislike Ashley.

Glad you enjoyed it.  Still a very lonely experience for me, though.  EDI and Joker's interaction was amusing, but only something I enjoyed when it happened.  I didn't go searching for them to talk to each other.  And Bioware couldn't pay me to buy "From Ashes".

It's matter of taste. I like unique characters and I would say that most of team is kinda generic - a lot of characters like them are already in other games.  For me, game developers overuse some types of characters, but I play a lot of games ;).

I'm not saying that they are bad. They are not. They are well written and designed. I'm just not interested in them.

Hey guys. The new chapter is up, with a massive chunk of Jackness at the end. Please, let me know what you think.

If you like, I could post the Jack scene here.

Hey guys, should I make a Jack and Shep music video to this song?

--> I'm Holding out for a Hero

:P

P.S. If Shepard didn't show up and 'rescue' her from Purgatory, where do you think Jack would have ended up without him in her life?

I just want to pop in here and say that Jack is one of my favorite female characters and it saddened me to not see enough of her in ME3. Especially with her new look, I definitely wanted more of her. I was even going to do a maleShep playthrough of all games just for her but her romance isn't much in the end just like all other ME2 romances :(

I really hope they give us more Jack and more of all our ME2 squaddies and LI's.

I'm mad that I recognize this song. Heh.

I heard it when Kai Leng was running the 3rd Street Saints.

Funny thing is I was thinking this very thing earlier today, damn tragedy. I freaking loved Ashley in Me1, wasn't fazed too much by Horizon, but man is she boring now IMO. I actually like Liara now but I can't decide if that's because of how well she was written or because of how poorly written everyone else is. To my mind the ME2 squad was the best cast of characters in gaming history (I really liked DA2 cast as well), ME1 2.0 was never going to hold a candle to them.

I have to agree on being in the camp of ME2 having the best cast of squad members. Of course I've always been a fan of the movie The Dirty Dozen, so going into it the game with that premise in mind I fully admit my option might have been slightly predisposed. I think the writting however for all the characters was excellent based on what the Mass Effect series is meant to be. A character driven narrative.

None of the ME3 characters outside of Garrus or Tali really interest me. I didnt have a desire to go run around the Normandy to talk to any of them like I did all the time in ME2. Traynor and Cortez were written well enough but I didnt feel like I'd really miss a conversation if I didnt rush back to see them. Vega....Eh... He just seemed to be there and I never really understood why. He was my watchdog while I was on Earth right? So he's on the Normandy with me now because?? Liara on the ship as the Shadow Broker just seemed so silly and didnt make sense.
