Normally, in real life that is, I am not attracted to women with any tattoos. I find it hilarious that the one video game character I really dig is covered in them, and I think it's sexy.

Why I like Jack...huh. This is probably going to be revealing a little too much about myself, but I guess it's a...combination of factors, for me. I l tend to be drawn to...many different types of women, but I adore women with body mods (e.g., tattoos, piercings and the like), and I also often gravitate towards women who may not necessarily adhere to typical standards of femininity, or who have a penchant for genderfu**ing. I remember I was drawn to Jack before I even knew she was a potential love interest. I just found it fascinating to see such a mold-breaking, unorthodox character in a medium as traditionalist as videogames. I loved the most overt bits and pieces about her (the fact that she didn't care to wear a shirt, that she was covered from head to toe in tattoos and scars, that she had a lean, non-curvaceous physique and a shaved head, and that she went by such an androgynous name), as well as the way they came together and the things they seemed to suggest about her character. I also honestly liked the fact that she had a traditionally attractive face and wore bright, heavy makeup. That fluidity*, that constant shift between embracing and rejecting traditional femininity and gender roles was...appealing to me, I guess.

Moreover (and again, this is probably revealing too much about myself), I guess I also seem to be drawn to abrasive, solitary women. Like calls to like on that front, I suppose. And...sure, I've been involved with temperamental, foul-mouthed women who bear physical and emotional scars before. When you put all these things together and throw in Courtenay Taylor's wonderful, vivid performance, I guess it was kind of a given that I'd end up going for Jack (before learning she was a love interest I had designs on pursuing Miranda, but I was not particularly excited about the idea. I was mostly intent on doing it because...well, it's a BioWare game. Romancing people is kind of expected of you. There's an achievement for it and everything).

*while we're on this, I'd honestly be remiss if I didn't mention the fact that I've always liked the idea of Jack as a person with a somewhat fluid sense of identity, which would extend to things as concretely appreciable as her appearance, as well as to more intangible things like the name(s) she goes by. I loved learning the fact that she sometimes goes by the name Jacqueline Nought, for example. I think it'd be interesting if, say, we learned at some point that she's also started going by "Jennifer" (and variations thereof) under certain circumstances. I think so, anyway.

Gender****ing?  I know of the concept, but I've never heard that term.  I can't say that I was attracted to Jack because of this specifically.  More specifically, I was attracted to her because she appears as she pleases.  And, yet, there are some things about her physical appearance that seem incongruous.  She seems to eschew appearing overtly feminine, and yet, she wears that makeup.  That made me wonder about her perception of femininity.  What does it mean to her, if anything?  Does she care?  If she does care, how does she care?  Would she look at women who dress themselves in order to appear feminine, and wonder why they do that?  Or would she secretly desire to look a little more feminine?

Speaking of appearances, another thing that struck me is how Bioware didn't go for the lesbian/bisexual angle for Jack.  They could have, but they didn't.  They didn't play her in to those stereotypes.  In retrospect, I think that is kind of neat.  I may receive some **** and accusations for entitlement for saying that, and okay.  I'm just saying, Bioware separated sexuality from stereotype for Jack.

Since Vega has a comic now, god knows why he's new and not as popular as some other characters...when does Jacks "Homeworld" comic come out?

i dont normally find tsundere attitudes attractive, usually i associate them with being stuck up and arrogant which is why i didnt end up romancing Miranda at one point. Jack breaks that mold for be because shes mostly just cold, aloof and emotionally distant. but she has her reasons why shes all these things that just tug at your heart strings and give her a hug...which you probably wouldnt survive lol

Never.  The "Homeworld" series comics are for ME3 squadmates.  Also, Jack has no "homeworld".

I know, I was hoping that Jack might have her own comic.  Samara, too.  Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it.

I'm more intellectually/emotionally attracted to Jack than physically, lol. I never liked women with a lot of tattoos, and she's not exactly well endowed, but she does have the prettiest face of any Mass Effect character, by a wide margin.

But her tragic past and her tsundere attitude is like catnip to me. :P

I actually agree with this. I'm completely neutral on the tats. Not a turn-on or turn-off. I think Jack's look good, I like the colors and the designs are neat/intriguing. Only downside to it is that I'd feel like she's never truly be "naked" in front of me. And then, I tend to like women with thicker builds. I'd say Liara has just about a perfect frame. Or Miranda for curves, but then I don't like her bone-thin limbs either, looks very unnatural and turns me off.

Jack of course is tiny. But that's not to say I don't find her physically attractive. She's gorgeous, for one. For two, small bodies do have their advantages. Less to grab, but more flexible. Also, easier to toss around.

For me though, when I dig a girl on a personal/emotional level, that really makes them more attractive to me. IMO, it's more intimate to get involved with someone when you both have strong feelings for each other. That's where I think Jack's romance really shines. Shepard and Jack are so passionate with each other.

....i had anice little reply about your observations about Jack's views but my web browers crashed and i cant remember what i said <_<...anyways to summarize i think its similar to how she entered into a poetry column. deep down she may secretly want some kind of recognition for things she makes an effort to do for herself but might not necessarily want you to come out and say it what you think.

Please play SP on Saturday if you want a high quality DLC. Because Jack wouldn't "wait and see."

- Retake has already won. What is the point of this?

While the production of a free Ending DLC is a step in the right direction, the announcement Bioware made was vague and could apply equally well to either a multi-hour playable extravaganza or a handful of epilogue slides stating things like: "ReaperGarrus lived for many happy days on Gilligan's planet before he finished consuming Tali's dead body and died of starvation." Our goal is to help Bioware get the funding it needs to produce the former.

- Why didn't you specify what a "satisfactory ending" is?

The fanbase is diverse and not everyone wants the same thing. (However, we suspect very few people will be moved to boycott Bioware if MORE CHOICES are provided.) Also, we trust that the company which made the Tuchanka missions is more than capable of pleasing the majority of fans if they internally peer-review their work. It is not our intent to demand specific plot points or outcomes. Bioware has over 600 pages of fan feedback and multiple polls to point them in the right direction.

- Why should I take part in Turn it On/Turn it Off?

If EA is presented with clear evidence that the quality of the Ending DLC will mean the difference between regaining supportive fans and driving away their customers, we believe they will finance a better product. It is imperative for people who can't currently bring themselves to replay the SP campaign to stand up and be counted instead of being written off as a "lost cause." Also, it's important that the "wait and see" crowd make their voices heard now while we still have time to effect positive change. Finally, it's free and easy to do.

- Why are you trying to destroy Bioware?

We're not. We want them to make an Ending DLC that is worthy of the rest of the game and then reap the rewards of their success. To that end, many of us will encourage our friends who haven't played Mass Effect 3 to download the demo (http://masseffect.com/about/demo/) during Phase 1. We are more than willing to bring new customers to the franchise if the ending is fixed properly.

That's because BW just likes burning you and I. Bromanov, ya know with our characters we like we get burned, They have a list I'm telling you and it says who they need to burn by treating their favorite characters like sh!t. It's gotta be what's going on, Bromanov, and Gears they got us on a burn 'em list.

As for why I love Jack, well when I first saw her I was like umm yeah this chick is gonna never be a LI for any of my Sheps for these reasons,
1.She's in a prison for a reason right? Total psycho?
2.All those tattoos she's covered in huge turn off
3.Umm she's not feminine looking at all
4.She's got a shaved head

But then I was proven wrong by that once I played ME2, Reason I love Jack
1.In ME2 her character reminds me a bit of myself when I was in high school, p!ssed off at the whole world because of a sh!t ton of issues that had never been dealt with.
2.Her foul mouth, (I tend to have a foul felthy month too)  F*ck Bombs, Sh!t, P!ss, and calling people a p*ssy classic.
3.Her Eyes, oh yeah they just mealt me
4.I can so see Jack rocking out to, Disturbed, W.A.S.P., MegaDeth, MotorHead, music I enoy, she's has that Heavy Metal/Rocker look
5.ME3 Jack's character has grown and she's dealth with her issues, and is now an extremly dedicated loyal person, and she used her issues of the wrongs she'd suffered to build herself into a better person. Totally COOL again reminding me of myself.

And because hey why the f*ck not Jack?

I'd like to know the nature of the way the Alliance approached Jack to offer her the teaching position at Grissom. I'd really like to know what that conversation was like. That's something to write about.

Heh.  I want to know where they found her.  Was it straight off of Shepard's ship, after he turned himself in?

Did the Alliance capture the SR-2 after he turned himself in?  Did people leave before Shepard turned himself in, or was it all at once?  When did Jack leave?  In what mental state was she in when she left?  What did she think at the time of Shepard turning himself in?

Again, I want to write the conversation where Jack is approached by the Alliance.

I wrote about this in one of my chapter of Breaking Points. Anyway given in ME3 Shep, just acts like it's all cool don't ever ask about his/her former squad mates, I wrote it as My Shep kinda knew what each squad mate had hoped to do.

But about Jack, I had it written that my Shep called in a favor from Anderson and got him get Jack a pardon for all her crimes and stuff, in the end Kahlee was the one who got it to happen by basiclly offering Jack a job at the Grissom Acadimy .

Heh I figured why not write my own version of how it came to be, Because BW really didn't treat the ME2 cast like they were importent to the fans and series, they just threw them to the wind, And didn't ever allow the player to ask about any of them.

In ME2 they let the player ask about the former squad and crew, many times in the first few moments of the Game, until ya got to go to Omega. They also provided us with many of their current where abouts.

ME3 we never got that so I figured it made more sense for me to exploite the Stupidity of BW's handling for my own Fanfic, just like Shepard being a Spectre but also facing charges as an Alliance soldier by the Alliance, it was all exploted by me in my own fanfic.

I even had a head butting match between Jake Shep and Hackett, and basiclly Hackett got told not to press his like on a certain issue because Shep was still a Spectre and he could and would be the hell out of Hackett and make things worse for the Allaince when the Reapers showed up.

He was basiclly there to train and avoicd a hurting human galatic realations. It was all verry fun to read. Also had Jack put a beating on James Vega too. That was fun as hell to write

EDIT Noticed this post

I covered all that in a chapter to my Fanfic, and as I said it was BW's own lack of effort to give us a reason and context to what all happened and how it happend, I exploted the hell out of their flub and used it for my own gain, what better way to kick off a fanfic than by starting with the sh!t that was treated like "oh yeah no one really will care about the ME3 cast enought to wonder where their at when ME3 starts it's all cool we can totallly just throw the ME2 cast in randomly and fans will be happy, and will even kill them off if the fans don't do that mission soon enough, and will bring those characters in latter as phantoms just named Jack. SO SMART"

EDIT I'm also in the works of writing a One-Shot Fanfic about Jack and the Normandy being impoded and stuff tore apart, going have her moving Shepard's Models and some other stuff down to her hiddy hole. Oh yeah BW so flubbed and I'm gonna explote that.

Hahaha

My guess is it was probably Kahlee Sanders who asked Jack to join up, largely as a favor to Anderson and Shepard (and, obviously, because the Alliance could make great use of her talents). I expect Jack's first instinctive reaction was to say no, but I've speculated before that joining Shepard's suicide squad may have proven to be a surprisingly fulfilling experience for her. Perhaps it provided her with that sense of kinship and belonging that she seems to have yearned for at other points in her life, the same one that compelled her to join the outlaw colony (and take revenge for them after it was targeted), the cult and to reach out to Manara and her boyfriend. To become part of something larger than yourself, to have people you can rely on and serve a greater purpose to boot...I imagine it may have been unexpectedly satisfying for a lone wolf like Jack. And perhaps the reason she decided to join the Alliance is because she wanted to feel that again, to recuperate that sense of stability, support and purpose.

Plus, it's a fresh respite from the hardships she's had to endure in life. Being forced to turn to crime in order survive has left her with many unpleasant associations and experiences. The legitimacy and structured order of the Alliance would be represent change, a means to escape all that, while still retaining the aspects of her previous life that she enjoyed most (i.e., the fighting and mayhem). And end of the day, much as she may grovel about being in the Alliance, she does appear to be extremely happy there. Like Shepard says, military life seems to compliment her well in several ways.

I just find it funny that Kahlee only tells Shepard that the students are with "their instructor" ... I mean, there's no way she doesn't know they worked together, at the very least. I know, I know, gameplay mechanic ... but it still makes Kahlee look really wily in retrospect.

I can just imagine Kahlee smirking while Shep walks into Orion Hall oblivious.

I love the picture Nightfable!

At the moment I'm hanging in there, but I don't see me playing ME3 at the moment, until I get more Jack content.
At least I have the MP for fun and of course Vampire The Masquarade: Bloodlines. It's one of my favourite games. Best thing about this game is, that Courtney gave some of the characters her voice.

I'm going to have so much more fun when I play it again this week. Does she remind you of anyone?

I was pleasently surprised when I was looking up some of the characters last week. ^.^

I've played through ME3 something like...6 or 7 times over the course of the last two months. All my Shepards have been imported (and re-imported) at this point. Never touch MP, though. Not usually my thing.

So, yeah, I'll probably lay off of ME3 for now, at least until we start getting DLC. I've been neglecting my other games terribly (I've had Assassin's Creed: Revelations lying around unfinished for something like six months now, and I also have a playthrough on Dragon Age II that I need to complete). I was, however, thinking of doing a quickie run through ME2, maybe a very bare bones playthrough where I only recruit the necessary squadmates to do the Suicide Mission and ensure that they all come back alive. That'd mean recruiting only Garrus, Jack, Mordin, Grunt and Tali, doing all the loyalty missions and buying the ship upgrades. I've never done the Suicide Mission without all the squadmates before. Should be fun hearing Jack suggest doing the biotic shield and such. I reckon that should take me about six or seven hours.

It's weird whenever I see jack I think of Gwen Stefani especially with the new hair that Jack has.
