It might just be me but does the "Death" Tattoo on her fingers bother anyone else? One of them is backwards

I don't think I've ever studied her hands close enough to tell if one of them has "DEATH" written backwards.

I'd chalk it up to the "ruthless calculus of game design". Don't render or texture things unless you have to. Her hands in-game are probably just mirrors of each other to save space. In-universe, they're probably both written correctly.

I went to school for game design for a couple years, where I learned dumb little things like that.

It manifests itself all over ME3 if you look for it. Look at the back of Joker's pilot's chair, for example. It says 80-XT, then an inch away, it says TX-08, lol.

One thing I always notice now that drives me crazy, is how Darner Vosque (the Blue Suns guy at the Docks) shows up later as the doctor who lets you see Thane, and he's one of the people playing poker with Vega.

For some unknown reason, the art team decided to use one half of the ME2 tattoo pattern, and just flip it for the other side.

It wasn't symmetrical in ME2, but now in ME3, it is. Including the 'Death' finger tattoo. Go figure...

[Edit] ...wow. Upon double-checking the above pics, it looks like some of the tattoo patterns have been drastically moved around as well, if not changed outright, even. Not exactly sure why this happened - oh, well...

I dunno, it looks like they're mirrored on the ME2 model as well. If they weren't mirrored, she would have a D on her left thumb, but it's an H in both the ME2 and ME3 pictures.

Pretty sure the DEATH tattoos were mirrored in ME2, as well. You get a clear shot of the one on her right hand when she's telling you about her tattoos:

And then, towards the end of her love scene you also get a closer look at the one on her left hand (when she's putting her arm around Shepard):

Yup. Either she wants DEATH to be legible in mirrors that she's punching with her left hand, or it's just laziness/space-saving on BioWare's part.

Games have come a long way, though. Character models and textures used to be mirrored along the "prime meridian" back in the day :P

thtats why we need more "Into The Unknown" for our ME3 and Jack fix ;)

Doing my best, DPR. The ME3 depression has slowed me down a bit, but I'm getting back on the horse and returning soon with a big, exciting, character filled chapter. What's more, there's plenty of Jack goodness in this next mission.

For those of you dying to know what's in store, two words: Biotic Airdrop.

Let's just say that our favourite little lady makes Wrex look like a total P***y.

It's sort of interesting, seeing how her character model has changed between the games.

Posted ImagePosted Image

Posted ImagePosted Image

Something that I perceive to have changed is that her lips and mouth in ME3 appear to be both a little less full and a little less wide than they were in ME2. I've no real evidence to prove this, but comparing videos from both games where she speaks I sort of get the sense that the change may have been done in order to make her mouth a little more malleable and expressive. When you look at her lips in ME2, there are moments where their wideness and fullness seems to create (or accentuate) a certain stiffness, which makes some of her expressions (like some of the moments when she smiles, for example) look a bit awkward when compared to ME3. I don't think they could have made her smile like this in ME2, for instance:

She looks skinnier in ME3. Which, really, should be expected, because she's an uberbiotic and biotics have super ridiculous metabolisms.

(That's another reason why I think Mondo does the best fan fic, because whenever Jack is eating something in her stories, it's always a LOT of something lol).

I think the skinnier might be an illusion. Where the white thing..Shirt? WTF is that thing....But where the white thing goes up in that V shape it looks like it pinches in her waist....I cant tell if she is actually skinnier or if its my brain being fooled

Yeah, I used to think she was thinner in ME3, but looking at her character models from the two games side by side a few weeks back, I get the sense that it's probably the way the ME3 clothes snuggle up to her body. It gives her a more shapely appearance, making her waist seem smaller.

Maybe.

I think she looks skinnier, though. Mostly in her waist, yeah, but also her cheeks are a little more gaunt, and like Padt said, her lips are a little less full.

Agreed. Without the tats, she loses something. I know they're still there, but they should be more on display. Especially Omega. Alternate appearance pack for Jack!

Dunno why she'd be thinner in ME3, unless Bioware thought she'd appeal to more people by being even more lithe. You'd think that being at Grissom, they'd know all about proper nutrition and eating habits for human biotics, so how'd she get thinner, if she was already pretty damn svelte?

God I hate Jack's belly tat in ME3 that giant star thing Tat, it got way smaller in ME3. It's stupid and bugs the hell outa me, just like how her tats got lighter in ME3. MY guess is BW wanted to give Jack "More Sex Appeal" I mean in the ME Art book how many dang times did they talk about more sex appeal?.

BW totally wanted that with Jack, and it's not right in some weird way. I think she looks off in ME3, like they even lightened up her skin tone too. And what they hell they gave her eyes so much damn make up it's sick, I miss her big huge eyes and those nice eye lashes, but they got drowned out with all that stupid eye shadow in ME3.

No wonder I have only beaten ME3 once, the longer it sits the more I have a problem with the stuff BW threw away, and the less my issue is with the endings. Hell I'd be able to stomach ME3 if the ME3 cast had been treated as good as Liara, Kaidan, Tali, Garrus, Wrex, EDI, and even Hackett.

The only ME2 cast members that got any effort and had a decent role in ME3 was Mordin, Legion, and umm maybe Miranda.

Thane just got some stupid death scene, all to make that dumb@ss Kai Leng look like a bad@ss and the longer that sits the more issues I have with it all.

Jack yeah she was there but not, Samara was there but not. Hell Samara got reduced to little more than a cameo as a way for BW to say hey look she's in there. When it felt like she wasn't even in there, and was reduced to a husk of the character she was in ME2.

Jack she had some great moments but it all fuzzled out and left me p!ssed that I had to take Shadow Broker with me who some how magically gets all her cr@p on the Normandy and yet you found her on Mars, and she had no time to take her cr@p from Mars. Oh well maybe it was all conveniently in storage on the Citadel. Either it don't matter I'm forced to get the stupid Liara cramed down my throat and all the while, Jack, Samara, Thane and all the other great ME2 cast gets tossed away like toilet paper.

Yeah ME3 just destroyed my interest in Video Games. it will be so hard for me to pick anything up after this. The worst part is all those damn Gamer Media dumb@sses are throwing Game of the Year awards down at it's feet and worshiping licking up the sh!t as it comes right out the @ssholes of BW/EA.

Face it, ME3 Jack is more of a Barbie Doll than ME2 Jack. Just like Ashley. Just like Liara, to a degree.
Fact is, most Jack fans weren't into her for her looks, but for the fact that she refused to conform. The tats, the hair, the attitude, the language, it was all there to push people away by saying 'I'm different, now get the F**k out.'. These are all reduced, pushed aside in an obvious attempt to make her more universally appealing. The fact that former haters now love her shows this. Jack was meant to be the marmite of Mass Effect. You either love her or hate her. But now, after attempts to make her universally appealing, she's more of a bland grey nutrient paste, Nothing really to love or hate.

Didnt one of the devs say Jack was his favorite? Why change her. Where is the "Artistic Integrity!"

Im not sure about nothing to love. Cause I love the punch kiss combo. But awesome Jack moments come down to like one or two. Which makes me a sad panda

The dev you're talking about is Patrick Weekes, i think. And to clarify, he hated Jack in ME2. I think he actually used the word 'hate'. Having someone take that stance then make a rapid turnaround because they're the ones writing the character now is a bad sign.

The guy who actually wrote Jack to start with left Bioware.

I will grant you that the punch kiss is good, but that's about it.

They could have improved on Jack's presence in ME3 with fairly little effort by just leaving her at Purgatory. She could have just sat there, then chatted to you after every mission, maybe even commented on what you were doing. You could have even left a Dance option in the convo wheel, so you can take her up to the dance floor whenever you feel like it and see more of her moves (two seconds of fading blackness was not enough).

I didnt realize that. I just remember one said that Jack was his favorites....Thats bad jeez. Seems like tons of people left Bioware for ME3.

They should have just made her a squad mate. I hate her reason for not being one so much. Tali is an Admiral now and Garrus is kinda important to the Turians now and they are both there....Hell Liara has a better reason to be gone too but the somehow got her in there. I hate James too. I like Javik but still did we really NEED him.

But Aria and Jack in the same spot the entire game? Sounds like fun haha

That's what my memory's telling me. I could be wrong. But yeah, the game definately felt like it had a hugely different team behind it.

As for Jack vs the squad we got, I agree with you. There's no strong reason for these guys to be with you as opposed to being War Assets themselves. I mean, I don't actually recall any reason being given for Vega to join you. He just tags along and never leaves. Like a Hobo sleeping in your front door.

Why do you think she was prettied up for ME3 to make her more palatable, if she can't be romanced in ME3?  If someone is romancing her in ME3, it's because they romanced her in ME2, so this means they accept her unorthodox appearance.
