It is impossible to undo years of torture and abuse, and then years of the same but with some rape and betrayal added in, just by doing nice things to a person. She might be not homicidal anymore, and maybe she trusts Shepard by the end of ME2, but she is not over her trust/intimacy/anger/list goes on issues, and I doubt she changed her opinion on the world just because some man hugged her. That is what I'm trying to say.

She's capable of vanity, that doesn't mean she's trying to seduce you (and tbh, Miranda doesn't try to seduce you either, so appearances can be deceiving). Jack just wants you to leave her alone, and she lets you know with words and stories and the haircutt and her fashion sense. The fact that the biggest complaints about Jack are A) She has an unagreeable attitude and  She's ugly....says a lot about her appeal and the shallowness of her haters.

Shepard's influence is strong, I wouldn't say "fix".  I understand the helper complex that many have (I "suffer" from it) but kumquats is right that an entire life of abuse isn't like a flat tire. Shepard says on 2 or 3 occasions that he can't fix it, that a few talks isn't going to still her fears, and that her "tower of sh!t" isn't enough to turn him away. He can even say he hopes she fvcks him up. That's accepting her for who she is and not as some project.

The cool thing is that Jack is undergoing this "maturation" and "softening up" whether you romanced her or not. My only concern is that ME3 seems to assume the loyalty missions were done, but that means Pragia won't be mentioned at all because someone might import a game where they skipped all the LM. It wouldn't make much sense for anyone to talk about the "favors" you did them when you might not have. Shepard does everyone (except Miranda, Jacob, the DLC characters) a hefty favor to recruit them, and Jack also gets the data from you (directly or indirectly, hahahaah!), so maybe that's enough along with all the events that happen in the story to explain everyone's character design and personality in ME3. The only thing that will probably bother me is Jack and everyone treating you like their best pal when you might have been treating them like dirt the whole time, but meh, such resource limitations are understandable.

Hellbound, I think everyone in this thread who liked the character tried. I tried too, in every playthrough. It's not the trying that I find objectionable, it's the expecting that she will be 'fixed'. Let's not forget that the things that Jack went through, a lot of them are things that real life people go through too. Probably not the scientific experiments, but I trust you get what I mean. Implying that real life abuse and real life rape can be just "hugged better" is something that I object to very much, and I object to people saying that the defence mechanisms of a traumatized person need to be stripped for convenience of others who find them objectionable, or annoying, or whatever it is the people don't like about her.

And oh God I cannot fathom the haters either.They make me despair at the world.

Meh, like D-C said, I can't fathom it. I think you're right, lack of empathy. Or observation skills, it's like all but her first conversation is untouched and loyalty mission skipped by the masses. Or they hear her but do not listen.

Again, wise words. Shepard can add a stability for her, though, and a chance to close doors and open new ones.

I hope they give Jack a charge biotic punch. Kind of like the Vanguard charge with their melee moves combined in one move (except sending enemy flying instead of the cheap instakill). It would be nice to try and add cutscene powers to her.

And also I want her for my femshep. She promised that we could go pirating.

Also, Jack receiving cutscene powers is prolly not going to happen. Even in ME2 where they were in a support role, you were a badass team. Imagine if your squad did even half the damage you did, the only way would be to raise the difficulty of the enemies, which they're doing. Hmmm, now there's an idea.

As far as the armor thing, for her not to have it and shields is a form of hubris.  I strongly believe they'd intend to kill her if she fought without armor, she may be able to shield from everything but how could she possile know when she's about to be shot at (sniped).  We all know Liara is the developer's favorite love interest.

Yeah I voted, I don't care what they think of me or categorize me as (I'm a straight male who likes Jack, and I would even date a girl like her in real life, oh no I guess I'm not normal). But I respect anyone not wanting to give that information (particularly orientation and gender).

I don't normally throw my wieght behind a game character, but I just have to say, "Yeah, count me as part of this group."

I love the damaged goods aspect of Jack, and my canon 'Bossman' is a 4/5-1/5 Paragade, so it just fit. After Horizon, he just pushed himself into bringing the best out of his team, and was happily surprised that Jack had a thing for him after her loyalty mission. It's going to be interesting when Jack and Ashley get to shooting/throwing stuff biotically when they have their showdonw in ME3.

So, where can I browse some 'Jack Appreciation' signature stickers?

As York pointed out, kinetic barriers activate when sensors detect projectiles traveling at a certain (very high) velocity. What baffles me is how Nihlus' shields didn't activate when Saren shot him, did Nihlus seriously have them disabled? At a time like that? Anyway,  I imagine Jack has these active even when she's asleep. I do think that since Jack uses a shotgun, she'd want to prepare for close-quarters combat, which brings me to my next question. Why a Vanguard? Liara is the only Adept squaddie in the entire series? Samara doesn't have Singularity and she uses a friggen AR, so that's one murky Adept if that's her classification.

I just find it hard to believe Jack would haul around a heavy ass shotgun when she can just as easily turn enemies inside out with her biotics.

We all know Liara is the developer's favorite love interest.

I'd say favorite toy, but that works too I guess.

lol ya know, I assumed it was just bcuz she surprised him, but since it was the first conversation, maybe Shepard was a little over cautious.

Also, it was Shep's best dance move.

Good point, she likes to utilize any intimidation techniques. She's probably the envy of all krogan because of it.

I seriously don't understand people who try to claim Jack is ugly. Granted, I'm a guy who loves tattoos and short hair (even buzzed) on a girl if done right. But, even if you aren't into that, I do not see how you can look at her face and say that it's not attractive. To each their own, I guess but, although I'm not the biggest Miranda fan, I can still recognize her beauty. Traditional (boring) though it might be.
