Hmmm.
Truthfully, I'm not so sure that Jack would be so completely dismissive of the idea of attempting to learn or recuperate at least some small measure of her original life (or rather, what would have been her life if Cerberus hadn't kidnapped her). I mean, I've seen the idea floated around here before that Jack probably doesn't really like herself, that she feels a certain loathing for the person she was made into by her experiences and so on and so forth. I'm not so sure I buy it. I think she likes being that sort of harsh, ruthless person. To be honest, I don't know if she would have been able to survive as long as she has if she didn't.
However, there is what I think may be a very telling line during one of the conversations when she's talking about the things Cerberus did to her, and she says something along the lines of, "whatever chance I had to be normal, they stole it by trying to turn me into some super biotic". That, what she (perhaps somewhat reductively) refers to as "normal"...yeah. I will not go so far as to say that she "yearns" for it (though I will also refrain from saying that she doesn't), but I do think that at the very least, she may wonder about it sometimes. Contemplate it, even. What could have been. Does any part of that "could-have-been-life" still exist out there? And so forth. At the very least, I'm sure she wishes her life hadn't been as harsh as it has been, but a less harsh life would not have made her the person she is now. It would have made someone completely different. How that wondering and contemplation would make her feel is not something I'm quite willing to speculate on at the moment, but I do think it may at least happen.
And so, if the chance presented itself to learn even a little bit about her original life, even just a few small scraps - her real name, where she was born, whether or not her parents are still alive, etc. - I'm not so sure that she'd just dismiss it out of hand. I think, at the very least, the idea would give her some pause. And consider: Jack was taken from Eden Prime in 2165. She was
born in 2161. That means she was roughly 4 years old at the time of her abduction. A 4 year-old child is fairly developed as a human being. I mean, there are still several years of psychological development to go, but a kid that age already has clearly defined tastes, a developed vocabulary and several general aptitudes and personality traits. Put in simpler terms: Jack was already "a person" by the time she was taken. You could perhaps say that she stopped being that person and became someone else at the hands of Cerberus, but that person still existed, still had a life and a mind of her own, such as it was. Does any of that remain out there? I do think she may wonder.
