It's an ending where Shepard encouraged the Grissom Academy Students to fight on the frontlines. They all die and Jack stares at their gravestones.

If instead you chose to use them as support, the slide shows Jack with the students and Kahlee.

Aww she's going to get laid, it just might take awhile for Shep to get out of traction.

Just finished replaying the ending. I'm gonna go watch the others on elsewhere. (Chose destroy, yet again.)

I already knew we wouldn't be getting much of Jack, but I cannot stress how happy I am to see her as the last person Shepard thinks of when he makes his decision.

I was screaming "YES" like Daniel Bryan when I saw that. Don't judge me.

+1 for a D Bryan reference.

Yeah, it's, ah, kinda soul-crushing, when you think about it. Using the students in combat roles and then choosing the Control or Synthesis endings, I mean. Jack lost her students. Lost Shepard (technically lost her students because of Shepard). She's basically left alone in one fell swoop*. It...yeah.

Makes you wonder how she'll look back on this period of her life at some point down the line. The time when she had both of them and clearly felt on top of the world even as the world was ending.

*I imagine she technically still has her job and Alliance people and stuff to do and all that, but you know what I mean

All-in-all, I gotta say it's a marked improvement over the endings that shipped with the game. My first thought was, "Why didn't they do it this way from the start?" I still would prefer the Spacebrat, etc. not exist at all, but based on what we had to work with, the extended cut is mostly a success.

Specifically, I like that:

they explain the Spacebrat and the choices better

they show how and why the Normandy and the crew got the heck outta Dodge (even if it does make me wonder why they didn't just use the Normandy to fly directly to the beam in the first place... shades of using the giant eagles to get to Mt. Doom in LotR)

they show the proper LIs in the little flashback snippets

they show the crucible's effect on other planets

they show some proper epilogue (my favorite parts of the extended cut just might be Zaeed chilling out and Grunt & Wrex getting off the shuttle together)

My only lingering issue is how they handle Shep surviving. They go months into the future, showing the Normandy repaired, the Citadel repaired, rebuilding Tuchanka, etc... but then they skip back in time to show the breath scene at the end? Doesn't make sense. Presumably, it would take weeks or months to repair the Normandy to flying condition. Surely they would have known Shep survived by then. Why were they putting Shep's name up on the memorial wall?

Also note in my ending (destroy) EDI is the last person Shephard thinks of. Obviously because she is about to die.

Damn I want jack DLC now. And I mean like some after the war DLC!

The Citadel was closed. They needed to use the Conduit on Earth to bypass its defenses and open the arms much like Saren did in ME1.

i think he means the beam itself on Earth. which there are a number of reasons why you couldnt just fly there, but that opens a big can of worms why they didnt have more reaper forces guarding the conduit in the first place.

all in all the EC filled most of that what the hell did i just witness moments that the vanilla ending left me with, now im just defaulting back to wanting more time with Jack lol

It doesn't all have to be in chronological order, you know.  I'm sure it isn't.  And they just don't show live Shepard because they wanted to leave that open-ended, so people can fill in the rest with headcanon.

The only thing that ocurres to me is that since Harbinger could have destroyed the Normandy with a single hit, it was better to present a smaller target.
Why the Normandy didn't even try to distract Harbinger however...

I think it wouldve spoiled the moment on the Normandy if they showed Shepard surviving first then cut to the Memorial Wall. and for the most part the Shepard breathing scene is a bonus scene you get for having a high enough EMS with the Destroy Ending so normally he'd would be dead like in all the other endings and it would cut to credits after the Normandy takes off

Edit: i still wish Harbringer wouldve said atleast one line when he targeted Shepard after staring daggers at the Normandy

^ This. The Shepard-Jack reunion is such a powerful moment that it's better to leave it to our beloving Jackolytes mind... and to Mondo's fanfictions, offcourse. If Mondo's gonna come back and write that moment, I'll accept it as my headcanon instantly.

"A Green Place on Earth"

That is exactly what I was thinking. I'll be glad to read something related to the very moment of Jack finding Shepard is alive (I don't think there are many FF writer that can handle that situation, that's why Mondo is required) but that one is enough.

Hell, when I first read "A Green Place on Earth" I started a ME2 walktrough with a Spacer Shepard so that I could make that epilogue my headcanon (my actual Shepard is a Earthborn).

Exactly. But this is how it should of been from the start. Not just the normandy racing away like before.

Seeing joker refusing to leave and Garrus having to tell him they have to get the hell out of there was touching as hell and it now makes me understand why they were bugging out. Because before it made zero sense. You can just tell joker didn't want to leave his friend behind and it was kind of sad

And jacks star gazer screenshot in game....

More variation here, I guess. In my game it was Liara and Traynor telling Joker to leave.

Yep, variation aplenty: I had Ashley and James for that bit.

Posting to be relevant to Jack thread: now that the EC is done and dusted, PLEASE can we get some Jack DLC?!

I reckon she'd kick ass in the Omega one.

It would be great if she was a squad mate in the possible "leviathan" DLC that's being discussed in main board.

I would like to amend my previous post about having a lingering gripe about the way they handled the "Shep Lives" ending.

I reloaded the on-the-citadel autosave and chose Synthesis to see how it was different, and Ashley actually put Shep's name on the memorial wall and gave EDI a sad looking hug (I used my Ashmance... I restarted my Jackmance about a week ago and haven't gotten thru ME2 yet), whereas in the Shep Lives ending, she just holds the plaque and stares off into space, like she either knows or at least hopes Shep is still alive (and cue the breath scene).

I'm OK with it now. It flows pretty well.

"A Green Place on Earth" sounds like something of a prescient name now, given the romanced-Jack slide.

Right now I'm good with the game not giving us an explicit romance reunion, I think, as it essentially provides the closest thing to that. Shepard's alive somewhere above Earth, and Jack (and the Normandy crew) thinks/hopes/knows so. I think that works quite well. I do still wish for more romance-related content via DLC, naturally.

Posting my response here to Skullheart's thread, because apparently the BSN has no moderators anymore, and that thread went to **** fast.

"...to answer OP's question, Jack and Miranda get the same romance-specific scene.  It's a model-swap job, and I think it's lazy.  Ultimately, I can't say I was surprised.  All of the (new) ME2 LIs got this treatment.  If you think you got your time's worth out of romancing Jack or Miranda, then I guess it wasn't the "wrong choice".  It's just simply true that the Big Three and the VS got more consideration.

That having been said, I don't think Jack would be one for such a formal ritual of mourning as placing her boyfriend's name on the memorial wall.  I think she'd get drunk, go out and destroy something big and valuable, and then do some heartwrenching soulsearching in an alley somewhere."
