I think it's more showing her that the world isn't such a ****ty place and it has beauty, regardless of romancing her or not because she does appreciate and she shows it in the best way she can or best way she knows how to, it's just a romanced Jack will allow more because it's up to her, where as, a friendship can just be seen as, you did something for me and I'll do something for you, I got your back, you have mine vibe, IMO. Sure, you get more content if romanced, but whats there is still good IMO and has nothing to do with her personally, just Bioware bad way of locking out content/history without certain paths taken by the player.

Only thing that bugs me, is she practically turns out the same regardless of anything you did in ME2, but again, not her fault, Bioware's decision on how to use past decisions.

so many pages! can you at least tell me a page to go to to start reading??

Good luck with the house :)

I think as recently as page 290 and 291 had a discussion similar to this. It pops up somewhat frequently.

Personally I liked her in ME2 better. I get that different graphics will change the appearance a bit from game to game, but I don't like how they seemed to intentionally soften up her facial features *seriously compare the jaw lines some day, and there is just something different about her eyes I can't describe*but it did go along with the character development so it doesn't bug me.  I wish they hadn't gone with the cliche 'Tomboy ponytail' and would have opted for something a bit more Blade-Runnery punkish.  Maybe the ponytail was her meeting Alliance Officer uniform regulations halfway lol.

Something like the above.  Short enough to make sense to grow in 6 months, sort of allowing for that 'awkward' phase when you're going from a shaved head to longer hairstyle.

Romancing her only provides additional evidence that a person can be close to someone without having an ulterior motive. It an additional exercise in breaking down her fatalistic world view while Shepard helps to free her from her past.  EDIT: And, Shepard doesn't need to be female, or even romance Jack, in order to do this.

EDIT: I don't really know what people expect from Jack, as far as her character being poorly written because her character doesn't change much.  People **** that her character changed too much between ME2 and ME3.  There's no way for her character to win, in this case.

EDIT: I think her character shows signs of changing in ME2, if the player pays attention.  She says "thank you".  That's a big deal for Jack.  You hear her worry about Teltin starting up elsewhere and experimenting on more kids.  Would you have expected to see that kind of concern from Jack fresh off of Purgatory?  Would you have expected to see her worry like she does while hesitating to detonate the bomb that was left behind at Teltin?  On missions, she refers to Shepard as "Boss Man/Boss Lady", and actually follows orders.

Jack being a heterosexual LI and thus having less character development for FemShep isn't the result of sexism. It's the result of limited resources and a lack of friendship paths with all characters. This is why "Calibrations" is such a well-known thing.

If she's loyal, and does the bubble in Collector base she actually calls Shepard "Commander" and means it. I'd say that's a HUGE change.

I was sort of expecting Jack to have different responses depending on how you treated her. Like if you were a jerk or did the Renegade sex option you'd get something like this:

Shepard: I have to say Jack, you look good.

Jack: No thanks to you.

It turns Jack from turning her life around with a little push from Shepard to her creating a better life for herself despite Shepard's actions. Although, Jack has some pretty good responses to some of Shepard's renegade lines in ME2

Characters that can be influenced turning out the same way no matter the state they were in when walking away from the suicide mission is a great misstep.  It also causes confusion and doubt when people are discussing just how much characters can be affected by the PC.  By this I mean, it's not that a character always turns out a certain way canonically, it's just that, since a player's actions or lack thereof have limited affect on a character, it makes the player wonder just how much of an affect it has on the game world and the people in it.  Then, people say, "Oh, character X still turned out this way without Shepard", when they're attributing an erroneous cause to this outcome.

I'm tired, and I hope I articulated that well.

She is real sweet about it too, you can tell it was really important to her.

Mass Effect is an odd one because, yes, you can look at certain circumstances and say that they happened regardless of the player-character but you only notice that 'outside' of the story. As in, seeing other people's games or playing a new Shepard.

I usually find it more satisfying to just see things as part of your 'story' (don't say head-canon :P)

So, in one game where I didn't romance Jack, I could interpret it that, after surviving the suicide mission, she saw the value in trusting others as long as they have a strong leader. Plus, she'd seen where her current lifestyle had led her (most likely permanent imprisonment) and knew a change was needed. Therefore, she took it upon herself to try and help people in need and be that leader through official channels.

Hope that makes sense.

Congratulations, Nightfable.  Just don't let the e-fame go to your head.  And tell the story you want to tell.  Don't compromise.

1) That fanmade game looks awesome.

2) Jack had amazing character growth in ME3, but then it just ended. You don't advance a complex character to just end their storyline. They should've taken a page from the True Blood tv writers. If your audience loves a character (Lafayette) don't kill off their storyline.

Just more sad than mad.

I've always liked the idea of Jack with a mowhawk. It just seems like it would fit her:

Hello Jack fans!

So something I've been toying with lately...

I'm a full-time university student but I DJ most weekends. I've been thinking about doing a "Subject Zero" mix - a DJ mix inspired by Jack and the kinds of music she would listen to/represent her character. If anyone has some suggestions (can be any genre really) feel free to inbox them to me!

Definitely something "punkish", or dark trance since she likes to dance (or better then Shepard).

There's the theme that was originally going to be used for Jack

I sort of picture her listening to heavy metal.  It's loud and brash but at the same time a lot of bands also do ballads which are much softer in tone sort of like Jack.
